Host Lisa Victoria talks with Dr. Vani Moodley, an Ayurvedic practitioner based in England. She provides a fascinating overview of this holistic healing practice, which is rooted in ancient Indian wisdom and complements modern Western medicine.  The emphasis in Ayurvedic medicine is on detailed, holistic diagnosis, mainly of the pulse, tongue, and iris. Based on results, tailor-made treatment plans are designed to suit each individual's needs and body type, involving diet, cleanses, nutrition, yoga, meditation, and supplements. Dr. Moodley treats a wide variety of diseases and conditions and recommends Ayurveda even for those who feel healthy, as preventative medicine that promotes longevity and quality of life. “It's about putting those building blocks in place now,” she says, “to make sure we live long and healthy rather than long and unhealthy.” She refers in the interview to original Ayurvedic medical texts, which are still used in the contemporary study of this ancient practice.  Remarkably, Dr. Moodley is able to conduct consultations and recommend treatments online, from her base in England. Refer to her website for more information. Jan Tucker is a certified trainer and healer in the Spring Forest Qigong lineage. She came to the art of qigong, a movement practice similar to tai chi, to treat her chronic bronchitis and a failing immune system. Her Chinese master said, “This works like acupuncture without the needles. … it works with universal love energy.” The healing takes place by removing blockages in the human energy system and aligning with natural yin-yang dynamics. Jan applies the healing touch manually, and also works with patients remotely, with success. Qigong addresses emotional and mental health issues, like stress, as well as physical ailments and conditions.  By boosting the immune system, she says it can help with the threat posed by the coronavirus pandemic. “If you believe in qigong, it works. And if you don't believe in it, it works anyway … because we're working with universal laws here.” Is qigong right for you? Jan asks her prospective clients these questions: Do you have a chronic and persistent illness? Are you highly motivated to conquer your health problems? Are you open to alternative health solutions that have stood the test of time for 5,000 years? Are you open to learning things about how "healing" energy works that Western medicine doesn't incorporate? Are you ready to commit yourself to make a major change in your life? If you said yes to all 5 questions above, schedule an exploratory call. We welcome you to the 100th episode of Alternative Health tools. Today we take a trip down health tools memory lane and introduce the hosts that made these 99 episodes possible. They’ll be sharing each of their favorite episodes and a little bit about why they choose those episodes. These were difficult choices when going through all 99 episodes, it became obvious that any of the episodes offer insights and gems of wisdom useful to anyone along the path of their health journey. Alternative Health Tools’s first episode was released on August 17, 2014, with Lisa Thorp hosting the show. Lisa Thorp took a much-needed break, and I took over hosting on December 2, 2015 - until meeting Lisa Victoria from the U.K. who hosted her first episode on August 23, 2019. Then on May 7, 2020, Lisa Victoria and I started alternating hosting duties effectively becoming “co-hosts” from across the pond of each other. In one episode, Lisa does an interview from the U.K. where she lives, and in the next episode, I host a conversation here in the San Diego area. Join Us for a LIVE Zoom Call with the Practitioners! John here from San Diego in the US. Lisa’s in the U.K. It’s my turn for an episode. I’ve been working with Lon and Sandy Golnick from Relationship By Design for about a year and a half. They know more about relationship than anyone I’ve ever met in my gazillion years studying human potential and development. So one of my favorites take-aways from this work is this: “You can’t fix a relationship - because it’s not broken. You probably just don’t know what a relationship is! As you become aware of what a relationship is, things simply clear up.” That’s refreshing. Doing their workshops, I found this to be absolutely useful and true. So in a short conversation here, I discovered that they’ve worked a lot with families and parents. What we bring you here today are insights into being a parent - and NOT parenting. It’s called Parents: Outside The Trap. For more information, visit RelationshipByDesign.com. Debbie Ford was an American self-help author, coach, lecturer, and teacher, most known for the New York Times best-selling book, The Dark Side of the Light Chasers, which aimed to help readers overcome their shadow side with the help of modern psychology and spiritual practices. Spiritual bypass or bypassing is a tendency to use spiritual ideas and practices to sidestep or avoid facing unresolved emotional issues, psychological wounds, and unfinished developmental tasks We give Karen a version upgrade to “K2.0.” Dr. Herbert Benson coined the term "Relaxation Response" and is defined as your personal ability to encourage your body to release chemicals and brain signals that make your muscles and organs slow down and increase blood flow to the brain. Karen calls this “peace brain.” Karen and John share their mutual love for music. John shares a bit about his musical background. They discuss the healing properties of music. Karen talks about her personal healing experience listening to Jason Mraz’s song “I’m Yours.” They agree that music is healing and music is medicine. In this episode, we explore different ways of healing the mind and body with Reiki, distance healing, journaling, practicing gratitude and mindfulness. Lindsay Banks “Having gone through my own spiritual awakening back in 2017 I now support others through theirs. My own awakening was triggered through the loss of my best friend to cancer, shortly followed by the collapse of my marriage. I didn’t felt like I was being true to me anymore. I had become emotionally numb to life. In order to get through it, I utilized every tool I had in my spiritual toolbox. I had read about mindfulness, meditation but wasn’t practicing it. I started to meditate, to connect with myself again. Speaking with Angels, using crystals, practicing Reiki on myself. I did what I could to get me through a difficult, dark time. And I did get through it. When I did I put these tools into a book so others could utilize them to help them on their path. A Gentle Hug for the Soul was born in Oct 2018.” Contact Lindsay Banks LindsayBanks.uk Twitter and IG @LindsayBanks111 Lindsay on Facebook Lindsay on YouTube  Contact Us Alternative Health Tools You can find us on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and anywhere else you get your podcasts. I haven’t done an episode on THIS show for well over a year so WELCOME to Season 5. Nothing has really captured my attention until lately when spending some time with Natalie Walker the owner of EHF (Enhanced Health & Fitness) Pilates here in Carlsbad, California. I discovered there are Pilates instructors and then there are Master Trainers and gifted people like Natalie who have taken Pilates and turned it into a health “caring” art form. EHF (Enhanced Health & Fitness) Pilates owner, Natalie Walker is a PMA Certified Pilates Instructor and Master Trainer with Pilates Sports Center educating the newest generation of Pilates Teachers. She has been in the fitness industry for two decades. She opened EHF Pilates in 2003 after a few years in mainstream fitness began to take its toll on her body due to various injuries. www.AlternativeHealthTools.com  Dr. Julie Beaton is an enthusiastic educator, parent, chemist and metaphysician. Her ability to translate esoteric knowledge into practical information is profoundly effective. She has spent much of her life dedicated to the spiritual world and has a deep desire to share this knowledge in service to others. Human Design is a system based on the work of Ra Uru Hu. By utilizing aspects of Genetics, Biochemistry, Quantum Mechanics, Astrology, the I’Ching, the Judaic Kabbalah and the Hindu-Brahmin Chakras, the Human Design system generates an individualized map, a Bodygraph. This map is like a mechanical blueprint of your life, from beginning to end, generated from the cosmos. A Human Design consultation will look at your design and show you how to deeply understand your mind, emotions and individual creativity.  You will also learn how your unique nature contributes to humanity’s collective destiny.  The purpose, challenges and themes of your life will be discussed. It is easy to compare ourselves to others, and this map will unequivocally reveal the True You. One of the most powerful aspects of this system is its ability to put the mind in its proper place. The mind is not intended to fill us with anxiety and worry or to make our personal decisions. Rather, the mind is designed to be an outer authority and its brilliance is to be shared with others. A Human Design reading will map out, in great detail, how best to make your own personal decisions. It will highlight both your soul’s greatest contributions as well as your individualized lessons. Education & Background In addition to her Ph.D. in chemistry, Dr. Beaton is a Reiki Master and is well versed in holistic health care, Religious Science, the work of Edgar Cayce, Animal Medicine, and theories of Reincarnation. www.AlternativeHealthTools.com Melody Owens is captivated by the mystery and the beauty that make a person iconic and revered. “I am inspired to paint women in classic beauty, illuminate heroines with a Hollywood glow and revive vintage elegance in a contemporary age. I aim to capture the radiance of soft light and diffuse certain features contrasted by focused details. Bright colors and textures can give the eye a sensory pleasure. In my work I play with the balance of abstraction. I use loose but determined strokes to blend details and realism. My choice of media is acrylic followed by oil. Sometimes, I mix it up by starting with a gouache base. The luminescence in my art is often amplified with jewels and the glossy shine of silver leaf contrasting strong rustic textures. Mostly self taught, I’ve been lucky to have apprenticed with a few of the most skilled artists in Utah & California. Growing up in Utah in an extremely artistic family encouraged me to pursue my passion of art. The roller coaster of life took me from Utah to Las Vegas where I opened a studio teaching my photo realism style seen on www.LiquidLead-Art.com. A few hard years running a studio flew by once I found the peacefulness reflected in my art. Art itself is healing, so my creative inspiration has led me on the path of becoming an energy healer and yoga teacher. In my current studio in Newport Beach, painting full time and happily creating, I enjoy the occasional surf break to chase down a perfect glossy wave.” ~ Melody Owens Topics, Mentions and Links Art Therapy at Southwestern College & New Earth Institute: consciousness-centered graduate school for counseling and art therapy. www.AlternativeHealthTools.com  Chef Lance Roll says "Love is the ultimate spice." Simple Bone Broth to AMAZING Bone Broth: I get asked all the time, "how do I use this broth?" First, I want to state that we create all of our broths to medicinal quality using the traditional brewing method to ensure the highest nutrient density and the most delicious flavor. We like to call it what it is, a traditional sipping broth. That said, over the next few weeks I'll share my top favorite ways to use our very own bone broth. Each of the recipes to follow builds off the next and know that there are many variations according to your likes and dislikes. Before we begin, a lot of you also wonder, "what time of day and how much should I consume?" Again, this is very subjective but it has been suggested that drinking broth in the morning is a great way to charge up your day. I like to have at least one cup of broth a day. The science also supports using the broth at night as the broth then gives the intestinal lining a nice coating of gelatin that can be effective in healing all sorts of gut issues. As the body rests and rejuvenates during sleep, the immune system within the gut is getting much needed nutrients and the collagen/gelatin is helping to heal the actual surface of the digestive system allowing for greater absorption of nutrients and overall healing! Now let's ease into things with my first "recipe," The Basic Cup. To make The Basic Cup, simply use 8 - 10 ounces of your favorite flavor of The Flavor Chef Bone Broth, add a pinch of Real Salt, heat and enjoy! That was easy! Of course, everyone has a preference for the type of salt they like. We like and use Real Salt. We just ask that you utilize a quality sea salt that contains a high concentration of naturally occurring minerals. This ensures the highest nutrient density and keeps in line with our real traditional and healing food mentality. More on “Simple Bone Broth to AMAZING Bone Broth.” Health Tip Love yourself. www.AlternativeHealthTools.com  Dr. David is an in-demand public speaker and can be found on stages and speaking at conferences, retreats and workshops across the United States and in Canada. David draws from his nearly forty years of public service in three fields (law enforcement, priesthood and therapist) to inspire audiences large and small and show people how to realize the life of their dreams. Dr. James has spoken to audiences as large as 10,000 people and conducts intimate retreats with as few as 15, but no matter the size, attendees report having a personal connection that stays with them long after the event concludes. While a police officer he spoke to community and service groups, but his passion was addressing teens in packed-out auditoriums and encouraging them to reach their highest potential as member of society. From topics as diverse as drug-abuse awareness to enlisting them to build a more just and engaged community, David never failed to inspire young people to be their best. As an Episcopal priest, David preached weekly in faith communities large and small to help people integrate their faith into their daily life. Preaching in small country churches and metropolitan cathedrals David used a combination of inspiration, humor and real-life stories to connect his audience with their own connection to Divinity. From the early 90’s, David conducted interfaith retreats for men who were on the journey of becoming their most authentic self. Having published two books on the spiritual life of men, he spoke to the yearning of men who wanted to break free of the limiting culture landscape of contemporary masculinity. For the past five years, David has been speaking about the power of our Magnificent Mind and has been a featured presenter at professional gatherings of physicians, therapists and social workers. His ability to communicate profound insights in a simple and engaging manner makes him a sought-after speaker on both the professional and inspirational circuit. Wellness Tip Relax. www.AlternativeHealthTools.com Metaphysical colon hydrotherapy is a colonic style that I have created and named Iyasu, which means, “to heal” in Japanese. It takes traditional colon hydrotherapy a few steps further. Most colon therapists offer colonics with a focus on healing from a predominantly physical point of view – utilizing nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle changes to promote healing. Years ago, I began to realize when clients shared personal, emotional experiences with me during their sessions, their bodies opened up and released more physically. Consequently, I created a new way of offering colonics that incorporate the different aspects that make up the human experience of healing. I have been a Colon Hydrotherapist since 1996. Since that time, I came to believe that: Our bodies are wise and will go to dysfunction. in order to set us up for our individual healing. To truly heal, we must feel. By trusting the wisdom of our body and letting it guide us on our path, we can all heal. There may be many reasons, and at many levels, why we suffer. I believe that the origin of physical dysfunction can be traced to any combination of the following – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. If we perceive life from an unhealthy or unresolved perspective, we might end up with physical issues. Iyasu can offer perspectives to shift belief systems that might be keeping us ill. When we choose to see ourself, others, and situations in a different way, our body can shift into health. ~ Stephanie Kato Topics Covered Today Get to know us. Text or call us. www.AlternativeHealthTools.com Jessica Luibrand is a holistic health practitioner who specializes in healing the body with physically and energetically. A health crisis in college caused by traditional medicine was the catalyst for Jess to search for natural modalities that heal the physical body in union with the mind. Biofield Tuning is a way to literally "tune" the human biofield with tuning forks. We, as humans, are electrical, magnetic, chemical and organic beings that emit an electromagnetic (EM) field around us - called the 'Biofield' which is a term coined by esteemed Subtle Energy Scientist, Beverly Rubik in 1994. The term was badly needed then to explain the aura in scientific terminology. Our memories and traumas that we experience in our lives are not stored in our brain, like once thought, but in the energy that surrounds our body - in chronological order - like rings on a tree, so your birth story exists about 5-6 feet away from you and then as we move closer to the body you become your age! Traumas and situations that caused an emotional upheaval in your life also cause a distortion in the EM field that the tuning forks can easily pick up on. A tuning fork creates a coherent sound, so it changes in pitch, timbre and tone when it hits a discoherent spot, or as it's hypothesized, or packet of biophotons (light particles we emit). "If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration." ~ Nikola Tesla By gently combing through the field with the tuning forks you can re-regulate this dis-coherence by pulling it back into alignment with the chakras of the body. The chakras act as transformers and circulate energy to help the body rebalance itself. Crystal Hilsley was raised by a vegetarian nurse for a mother. You could say I had an advantage but as we all know the daughter of the pastor is the most deviant. My mom tried every trick in the book to get me to eat whole foods. I'd hide them in my napkin or try to feed them to my cat. I'd save my piggy bank funds and buy junk from the corner store and hide it in my closet to binge when I was left on my own, which was often as I was raised by a single mom. I remember telling my mom on a trip to the grocery store “I can't wait to grow up and have kids of my own, I'm going to let them eat twinkies and ding-dongs whenever they want”. HA!! Fast forward and I am a mother to a little girl who is trying to pull the same tricks I did. One of my favorite mantras I live by is: "A strong woman looks at a challenge dead in the eye and gives it a wink." So bring it on my mini, I love watching you try to pull one over on me. My journey is and always will be in the works and I love learning by listening to the cues by body gives me. I most certainly did not always take the phone calls though; I suffered from chronic sinusitis for nearly a decade, I would get a cold every season, I have scoliosis and a broken tail bone, I had candida and leaky gut syndrome which lead to malabsorption and lastly a severe case of adrenal fatigue. With the exception of the bone issues I can proudly say that all of these things were healed by whole foods, a few amazing supplements, finding a posse of healers along the way, determination, and some good fierce love for myself. I practice yoga and pilates regularly to keep my spine flexible; top that off with a good spin class and chasing a mini me who is just as active as I am and you've got the basis of me sucking the marrow out of life on the daily. As a holistic health coach with a degree in Psychology, my true passion is uncovering what works for you. That's different for each and every person. Whatever your story, blocks or challenges; the journey in discovering how we can collectively get you humming the theme song to your victory dance is what excites me. Straight up. Programs:No matter where we go from here we need to have a chat first. A free 20 minute phone call will easily determine what we can do together. Then fill out some info for me on the forms and i'll be ready to hit the ground running when we meet live. Wellness Makeover - I roll up my sleeves and grab your hand taking that first step with you. We begin in your kitchen to get our bearings, then we navigate the outer sections of the grocery store together (where all the good stuff is) or even meet at a local farmers market and go over an actual meal plan. Something you can truly connect with and be excited to get stuck in to. Thereafter we talk on a weekly basis via video conference, the phone or in person (my favorite). Wellness Tips Take out gluten and dairy. When you wake-up in the morning “say” what you’re thankful for. Start the day off in complete and pure gratitude. Drink plenty of water. Have some really good probiotics and omegas fish oil. Try one of my Crystal’s recipes. People need to think for themselves. Stop following the crowd and do what’s right for you. www.AlternativeHealthTools.com Raymond Francis has been cited as “one of the few scientists who has achieved a breakthrough understanding of health and disease.” On the cutting-edge of health science, Raymond is an internationally recognized leader in the field of optimal-health maintenance. He is a chemist by training, a graduate of M.I.T., a bestselling author, a world-class speaker, a pioneer in health education, and an internationally recognized leader in the field of optimal health maintenance. At the height of his career as president of a management consulting firm, Raymond’s health began declining. What began as chemical sensitivities and allergic reactions, ended up as several autoimmune syndromes, chronic fatigue, and acute liver failure. At age 48, his imminent death was considered a medical certainty. With days to live, he used his knowledge of biochemistry to save his life and restore his health. Decades later, Raymond enjoys an extraordinary level of health and vitality. Since his recovery, he has devoted himself to helping others to get well and stay well. To teach others how to achieve the level of health he has achieved, Raymond devised a health model (the Beyond Health Model) that cuts through the confusion, takes the mystery out of disease and makes health simple, enabling the average person to take charge of their health. This model is so simple it can be taught to a child, yet so powerful that many have used it to cure themselves of terminal illnesses. He has written five breakthrough books, the international bestseller Never Be Sick Again, Never Be Fat Again, Never Fear Cancer Again, Never Feel Old Again, and his newest The Great American Health Hoax. Raymond has addressed health conferences all over the U.S. and in Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Egypt, Canada, Fiji, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, and Mexico. www.AlternativeHealthTools.com Gerise Pappas asks “What does it take to love every part of yourself? What are the challenges to meet ourselves there?” Book: The Wisdom Way Of Knowing by Cynthia Bourgeault. The Little Acorn - a ParableOnce upon a time, in a not-so-faraway land, there was a kingdom of acorns, nestled at the foot of a grand old oak tree.Since the citizens of this kingdom were modern, fully Westernized acorns, they went about their business with purposeful energy;and since they were midlife, baby-boomer acorns, they engaged in a lot of self-help courses. There were seminars called “Getting All You Can out of Your Shell.”There were woundedness and recovery groups for acorns who had beenbruised in their original fall from the tree. There were spas for oiling and polishing those shells andvarious acornopathic therapies to enhance longevity and well-being. One day in the midst of this kingdom there suddenly appeared a knotty littlestranger, apparently dropped ‘out of the blue’ by a passing bird.He was capless and dirty, making an immediatenegative impression on his fellow acornsAnd crouched beneath the oak tree, he stammered out a wild tale.Pointing upward at the tree, he said, “We...are...that!” Delusional thinking, obviously, the other acorns concluded, but one of them continued to engage him in conversation:“So tell us, how would we become that tree?”“Well,” said he, pointing downward, “it has something to do with going into the ground and…and cracking open the shell”.“Insane, “ they responded.“Totally morbid! Why, then we wouldn’t be acorns anymore.” Book: Beatrice Chestnut: The Complete Enneagram, 27 Paths To Greater Self-knowledge. Alternative Health Tools.com the podcast Gerise Pappas is an Enneagram Intuitive. As she says . . . “The Enneagram “explained me” to myself unlike any other personality system or transformational modality. I had no idea the degree to which I was defending against the very intimacy that I was seeking. I grew up in the ethos of a conservative Catholic family where there was a “right way” and a “wrong way” and the fear of God was instilled in me. I was unaware that in order to survive, I took on beliefs which were not resonant with the heart of who I am. I was unconscious that I was withdrawing and suppressing my natural tendencies. I started becoming a defended and tragically compromised version of my original precious self. In my first year of high school I was sexually bullied and tried to regain control through eating disorders. My passion for living was a foregone memory. By my senior year suicide seemed like my only option.    Going away to college lifted me out of an environment that was killing me and gave me a new lease on life. A hunger to understand the mystery of life, and what it is to be human became my North Star. Deeply steeped in the study of transformational modalities, I moved to California in 1995 to open my heart and grow spiritually. In 1996 I was introduced to the Enneagram.   During my first 7 years of Enneagram study, I identified with the characteristics of Type 2, The Giver or Nurturer.  During this period I found my study to be interesting but I was completely missing the inherent transformational value of the Enneagram. I “mis-typed” myself by trying to understand my Enneagram style based on my behaviors such as “being of service to others” rather than coming to know the nuances of my originating motivations.    Eight years ago a friend invited me to an Enneagram gathering lead by Curtis Blair, a masterful Enneagram Intuitive. When I began to interact with Curtis that evening, he said to me, “You are counter-phobic as hell!” That statement became the “buddha stick” that cracked me open!! I had enough Enneagram background to know what this meant; I wasn’t a Type 2 after all. My originating Enneagram style is Type 6, which unconsciously is driven by fear. Type 6 has the most exacerbated counter-phobic expression of any Type! Counter-phobic means to move away from fear. My cry for help was so deeply “seen” in that moment that my enormous glass-wall of a defense shattered. The rug was pulled out from the strategic defense that I had been hiding behind most of my adult life. I became aware for the first time that fear drove me to posture like a warrior. My version of Type 6 is known as “Strength and Beauty” but underneath the veneer of confidence was a trembling little girl who didn’t feel safe in this world and was constantly preparing for when the next shoe would drop. This false-front of confidence not only kept the world at bay but more importantly kept me from the greatest gift of all … intimacy with myself. The deepest transformation of my life had just begun!  The intimacy that I had been longing for started to blossom.   To this day I have been using the wisdom of the Enneagram to support my whole person integration. It is one of my greatest joys to facilitate the same for others.” Wellness TipLove All Aspects of Yourself. Alternative Health Tools.com the podcast Katherine (Kat) Bird has Traveled A Path of Warrior, Healer and Lover. “At one time, I was completely shut off to Spirit, in a lot of physical and emotional pain and not able to comprehend following my truth. I was lost. I made a commitment to heal myself and find out who I was. I experienced a massive spiritual awakening that forced me into practice, presence, meditation, movement, gathering knowledge, healing trauma and pain and listening to the messages. I struggled within my awakening for many years. For that I am grateful. Because it made me seek teachers, guides and practices. I dove into intense study with masters of Anatomy and Physiology, movement and sacred dance, Alchemy, Yoga, Shamanism, meditation, channeling, structural to-the-bone body-work, Body Rolling, energy practices, herbalism and nutrition, Reiki, Tantra and other modalities. I have integrated these aspects with my own inner remembrances and explorations to offer healing and guidance for those ready to evolve. My path now is very clear. I am here to help guide you toward your own healing and awakening and to constantly challenge myself in my own growth. My clients come to me already knowing that there is something inside that they must explore. They know there are places inside of us which fall asleep - shut down through trauma, faulty belief systems and lack of practice. They long to reconnect with their intrinsic magic, feel their primal nature and listen to the callings of their soul. But, for reasons they can’t fully understand, they haven’t yet found a way to awaken the sleeping places. They find it difficult to be conscious, have deep relationships and feel joy and peace. They’ve dabbled with spiritual practices. They’re tired of white rabbits. My clients are waking up. This process of awakening can be confusing and intense. I’ve been there. Everything changes and they need tools and information.” Wellness TipStop. And breath. That’s it. Just stopping and breathing . . . taking a few deep breaths in your belly.
