I had a dream well maybe just a fantasy of packing up my kids and family and moving to Mexico (I love that place). I was never brave enough to do it. My conversation with Karen is how her and her husband chose to parent differently and begin to live out the box. by travelling around the world. "I wanted to live a life of my own choosing" About Guest: Karen Yates In 2018 my husband and I decided that we wanted something different than the "American grind" that we were currently living with our 2 children. We wanted more time with them to create a stronger bond that would last a lifetime. After a LOT of deliberation, we chose to pursue a dream of ours (one that we had always thought wouldn't happen until retirement) to travel the world with our family. So 11 months later we boarded a plane with one-way tickets and began a completely new journey -- one of external as well as internal exploration. And what a journey it has been! inspiremymoney.com About me: Hello, I'm Anja. Welcome to my little space in this crazy world. In this episode Martin and I discuss his quite unique and confident out look on parenting and how according to his daughter, having Parkinson's may have made him a better dad. About Guest: Martin is a single father, diagnosed with Parkinson's at 32, a natural physique competitor and an award winning inspirational speaker. He has been living sober for over 5 years. On Oct 28 2015 Martin found himself in his car that had flipped upside down in a ditch in his underwear and decided right then and there that his life needed to change. He pulled myself out of the ditch not remembering how he got there. He looked down at his truck upside down in the ditch. The tire was still spinning, it had lost it's grip and lost it's purpose, like him. He knew it was time to retread, repurpose, and keep it steady. He got up, got his life together and decided he would give the finger to both addiction and Parkinson's Disease. He launched the 'Keep It Steady" movement to help inspire others living through similar challenges. He uses the lessons he has learned on his recovery journey and his experiences with navigating Parkinson’s disease to inspire others to step forward and claim their best lives as possible. @martinpkis #whatsshakinkeepitsteady About me: Hello, I'm Anja. In this 20th episode we talk about conscious parenting, parenting from fear, breaking cycles and redefining ourselves on this parenting journey. A very authentic conversation with many great tips on keeping your child safe. About guest: Rosalia Rivera helps busy parents go from fearful and anxious to confident and empowered, about teaching their kids about body safety, boundaries, and consent to prevent sexual abuse. She is a consent educator and abuse prevention specialist, sexual literacy advocate, speaker and the founder of CONSENTparenting™, the host of the AboutCONSENT™ podcast and creatrix of CONSENTwear™. She is also a CSA (child sexual abuse) survivor, turned thriver. As a CSA survivor and parent, from a family of survivors, she discovered how triggering it was to learn about abuse prevention when it was time to educate her own kids once she became a mother. Determined to break the intergenerational cycle of abuse, Rosalia dedicated herself to her healing so she could overcome the anxiety and triggers that kept coming up when learning about abuse prevention so she could teach her kids. Through the process, she learned that there were no programs speaking specifically to the survivor experience. This was preventing a large percentage of the parenting population from educating themselves and their kids, thereby increasing the perpetuation of the cycle. That is when she created and founded CONSENTparenting™ and launched her AboutCONSENT™ podcast, dedicated to survivors and those who support survivors to share interviews with experts in the field of mental wellness, trauma, and survivors/thrivers. She has helped thousands of parents through her various social media platform content, her well-reviewed workshops and programs, and her Empowered Family Membership. Rosalia is certified under Conscious Parenting Mastery with Dr. Shefali Tsabary, Ph. D., as well as the Canadian Centre for Child Protection® COMMIT TO KIDS® Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training Program and the Stewards Of Children® Training by Darkness to Light, as well as OnWatch™ Certified. Her Instagram has grown by over 22,000 engaged followers in the course of the last 12 months, with her other platforms quickly growing. She has a dedicated listenership on her podcast with well-respected guests looking to share their expertise with her audience. As a guest on many popular podcasts, Rosalia’s episodes are always some of the most popular, like for top parenting podcast Unruffled by Janet Lansbury and the top Latinx mom podcast Super Mamas. In 2021 she will be speaking at TEDxOneonta on the topic of dismantling rape culture, as well as at the well-recognized yearly industry conference, IGNITE by Darkness to Light on the topic of survivor/trauma-informed abuse prevention education. In 2019, Rosalia was awarded a Hay House Diverse Wisdom Program scholarship to begin working on her upcoming book, a guide to abuse prevention for survivor parents. Although Rosalia was born in El Salvador and grew up in NY, she now resides in northern Canada with her partner and three young kids. About me: Hello, I'm Anja. In this episode Gloria and I discuss her choices to parent her daughter differently come from giving her daughter a voice in the conversation. Asking for forgiveness instead of permission and how we walk through the world gives our children a view of what is normal. Guest: Gloria Brooks Gloria is the youngest child of four girls to immigrant parents and the mother of a fiery daughter that has been the catalyst for much of her emotional/mental/spiritual growth. Gloria's approach to parenting is one with an open heart and lots of apologies while also learning how to step into her power and knowing. Parenting her young daughter has made her question how she was raised and what she wishes to bring forward from her past at this time and what she is consciously working through to see it is not perpetuated again in her daughter's generation/personal life. Gloria is an active, multifaceted entrepreneur, always aiming to improve and expand her service in the world. She practices Massage therapy in her Clinic in Maple, Ontario (Glow Massage). She also creates malas, intentional jewelry and mugs/stickers with loving affirmations. As well, she offers EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) for those that are willing to release what is no longer serving them and dive deep into self love.
