"We are living in a linear world and yet we are cyclical beings…We are in an override mode with our nervous systems and our minds…Yes we want solutions that work for the planet AND we need to not drive ourselves crazy or burn ourselves out as we approach those goals." Madeleine Shaw Madeleine Shaw's new book, The Greater Good, as described on her website, is an inspiring, practical and deeply personal look at a growing movement of non-traditional entrepreneurs whose ventures are focused on creating social and environmental change. Here, Madeleine talks with Julie about the core elements she writes about in her book and expands our notions of what it can look like to be in business in a way that honors who we are and what we have to give. Her own path from feminist activist to social entrepreneur was a radical shift of focus and put her on a transformational path that continues today. Madeleine shares from her new book "The Greater Good": • We are cyclical beings and can design our lives to work with our humanity • Thriving doesn't have to mean scaling • Madeleine's first product design was a personal solution to period pads • Alternative ways to structure your business • Empowering people on the fringes • Her vision for the future and the role of everyday people starting businesses that solve the world's problems   Madeleine's Info Instagram: @greatergoodbook | @ohmadeleine Twitter: @greatergoodread | @gg_madeleine LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/greater-good-book  https://www.linkedin.com/in/ohmadeleine/  URL: https://madeleineshaw.ca/ Book URL: https://greatergood.work/   Eco-Soap Bank Dr Suzanne Simard and Finding the Mother Tree Kate Raworth and Doughnut Economics Dr Melanie Rieback and Post-growth Entrepreneurship   Julie's Info: Mentoring/Coaching /Experiences for creatives of all kinds: https://www.paintbiglivebig.com The Creative Cure for Anxious Times: Every Friday, open to everyone – Pay from the Heart  www.paintbiglivebig.com/the-creative-cure-for-anxious-times/ The Creativity Lab- Online Wednesdays: https://paintbiglivebig.com/weekly-painting-group/ Intuive Painting Retreats: https://paintbiglivebig.com/live-painting-events/retreats/ https://www.facebook.com/PaintBigLiveBig

Sara Basehart shares how recycled materials and creative process make beautiful art and a successful retail business in Taos New Mexico. Sara Basehart is an artist whose medium is recycling.  After building an earth-ship with her husband in the high desert of Taos New Mexico, Sara became immersed in a whole new art form based on trash compilations screwed to wooden bases reclaimed from the local ReStore and other sources. Each piece can take up to 5 years to complete. An earthship is a house built out of cans, tires and bottles plastered with adobe dirt and solar powered as well as rain water collecting.  It was a shocking moment of truth when she realized she should be living her whole life by these same concepts: recycled, reused, renewed, and transformed with her two hands.
