Samantha- How do I put my needs and happiness first when I have kids who need me 24/7?When you’re a primary caregiver, it can be very hard to break through the collective societal energy of the expectation of the “mother”.We feel immense guilt if we aren’t constantly supporting and caring for our children. These unrealistic expectations are not always in alignment with who we are. Communicating boundaries is extremely important to our livelihood. Dana discusses a technique she uses with her five children to include her kids in meeting her own needs. We don’t need to feel held back by our family dynamic. On this episode we dive into: As mothers, it is difficult to strike a self care balance when you’re constantly trying to accommodate othersUnspoken expectations as mothers in our societyWhat will fill you up as a mother? Career, home-caring, a bit of both? When our kids see us taking care of ourselves, it shows them they are worthy of that same self-loveDefining what self care actually is for you, to feel like you’re living a GOOD lifeThe Take Home:If going to the grocery store by yourself is your only you-time, communicating your needs on a deeper level to receive more help in your life to strike a balance might be necessary. We want to be seen, heard and understood, just like our kids want to, as well!“Taking care of yourself is an essential part of taking care of others. On today’s episode, I chat with Melissa McIntosh [ @mindfulkidsstratford ] about the power of mindfulness for kids and how they can use it in their everyday life! Melissa is the founder of Mindful Kids Stratford, where she teaches children of all ages how they can use simple mindful tools to “find their calm,” in moments of overwhelm. Melissa left her career with the Education board after 20 years to pursue this passion, and she reminds us that our futures are not always certain … but THAT, in and of itself, is one thing that IS in fact, always certain! “I like to call it, ‘the foggy future’ - because you just have to be okay with the uncertainty,” shared Melissa. On this episode we dive into: Why Melissa left her job at the school board after 20 years. How she stumbled into the world of mindfulness.Things you can do to help children, ‘find their calm’.Body Scanning - what it is and how to do it.Breathing techniques. How to practice mindfulness in everyday life. The take-home: Melissa credits her mindfulness journey to her husband, Mike. After seeing him use various mindful techniques, it piqued her interest so much that she made a life-changing career change. Melissa now teaches children of all ages, the power of mindfulness using techniques like body scanning, various breathing exercises, and even creative ways to find calm by using glitter jars! She believes that everything we need is already within us, so by tuning into and listening to our bodies, there is an entire world of calm that we can all access. Melissa says it best when she states that there is always a way to, “find your calm”. It’s simply a matter of choosing to practice it - and just like using any other muscle in the body, your ability to bring mindfulness into your everyday life will get easier the more you work at it! So what do you say, warriors? Are you ready to take a deep breath today and find your calm? Let's do it. Get in touch with with Melissa McIntosh: Business Instagram: @mindfulkidsstratfordWebsite: https://www.mindfulkidsstratford.com/

Michelle asks Dana the question: Do you believe that all things happen for a reason, or that they were meant to happen? I’d love to hear your opinion on this. Dana is a true believer that everything happens for a reason, especially the difficult, intense moments. This is a growth mindset.Michelle gets rear-ended this week and talks about how she’s managing potential whiplash symptoms and Dana is getting a puppy! On this episode we dive into: Does everything happen for a reason? What we do with the reoccurring signsThe victim mentality vs the gratitude mentalityChoosing the worthy opponent before we sweat the small stuffDana pulls the Fate card, again! A question from listener, Alex- I understand it’s important to try things that scare us but I’m not much for taking chances. This is how I’ve always been, I side more on the cautious side. I find this often holds me back, how would you suggest I break through this barrier? Will my 100 year old self look back on this and laugh? What’s the worst that can happen? Has this decision come to me on so many occasions and I keep ignoring it? Pick one thing everyday that makes you feel a little uncomfortable and continue to do it. You might notice a huge shift in your confidence levels! On this episode we dive into: Understanding signsWhen you do hard things, you’re reiterating to your body and self that you CAN get through tough life situationsLiving one day at a time in our lives, so that we are embracing the difficult moments as steps for personal growthProving to ourselves that we are capableThe Take Home:Michelle and Dana talk about how to approach fear and discomfort. This episode is a motivating and encouraging one! We are so capable of so much more. Let’s take steps out of our comfort zone so that we can expand! Discomfort is a sign that we are growing. If we want to grow, we have to continue to ask for lessons.“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” -Nelson MandelaPs. A question from listener, Shanon- What’s the trick to manifesting when I don’t believe I’m able to have all the crazy desires my mind comes up with?Dana does believe that everything is possible, so answering this question is difficult. Manifestation seems to be a buzz word on social media these days and Dana and says, “Desire has to be backed by action and initiation.” Manifestation is a divine action and backed by spirituality. We can’t commodify manifestation. Get in tune with your belief system about what it is that’s holding you back and making you believe you are not worthy of your desires. On this episode we dive into: Manifestation is a spiritual practiceManifestation as tied to self-worthWhat drives you?Recognizing that when we don’t always get what we want, the universe might be protecting us, or preserving us for something betterThe Take Home:The whole concept of manifestation has become monetized, in a way. Manifestations are feelings, not outcomes. When we manifest, we are talking about feelings of joy, abundance, clarity. Manifestations are the why behind our desires. Dana pulls the Fate card from her tarot deck. Michelle reminds us that, if it’s not “this”, it’s going to be something bigger or better! If things don’t quite make sense in your manifestation process yet, just wait. “True manifestation is about receiving what is of the highest good for you.” -Gabby BernsteinPs. Intuition can be our guiding light. Michelle chats about her recent intuitive signal that she regrets not listening to, that had her stuck in a slightly stressful situation that she managed to overcome. Michelle expands on intuition in this episode, and how if we listen to and honour it, it will help guide us through making big, life-changing decisions. Trusting in our intuition helps us grow as human beings. Choosing to be happy isn’t always an “easy” choice to make.On this episode we dive into: The power of our intuitionThe body trusting our intuitionHow to listen to our intuition Mindfulness as an important tool in enhancing our intuitive natureAsking for guidance and being specific with our questions Aligning ourselves to living a life that serves us fullyThe Take Home:Stillness can help us hear our intuitive power. If we are constantly on the go, we aren’t listening. And listening is how we recognize the signs we need to see. Intuition is there to guide and help us. Michelle often asks the universe to show her signs, and she receives them in abundance! On today’s episode, I chat with Devon Brooks. Named 1 of the 30 most fabulous entrepreneurs by PROFIT Magazine, Brooks has also been dubbed an 'elder stateswoman' by The New York Times, is one of the 2018 Inspiring Fifty women in STEM in Canada, and was awarded Business in Vancouver’s, Top Forty Under 40. Prior to Devon’s success as an entrepreneur, she experienced some very dark and life changing events. At the age of 18, Brooks was sexually assaulted by someone she had considered to be a close friend. As she continued to work through that trauma, she again, was attacked by a loved one in her apartment only a couple of years later. Brooks believed she was going to die the night she was attacked but clearly remembers a feeling that ran through her causing her to think to herself, “Okay, don’t give up. Don’t give up, yet.” And that’s exactly what Brooks continues to do. She not only refuses to give up in life, she continues to push herself by constantly stepping into courage! This is a great listen, warriors! On this episode we dive into: Conquering various traumas and sexual assault Using past traumas to pave the way for a better futureCreating community instead of living in fearStepping into leadershipHow to use fear as a tool for decision makingThe take-home: Although Devon’s experience was one she would never wish upon anyone, she humbly states that, “Hurt people, hurt people” and believes that her experience helped lead her to many of the successes in her life. Through her journey of overcoming trauma, Devon defined a new market category; co-founding Blo, the world’s first and largest franchise chain of Blow Dry Bars. The company now spans four countries, with 130+ locations, and has collaborated with international mega-brands like Mattel, Guess, Topshop, and Gwyneth Paltrow. True to her knack for shaking-up industries, Devon is growing her second venture, Sphere, a full-service marketplace platform designed to make personal & professional coaching more accessible with a gym-like membership experience for individuals and teams. Sphere’s mission to support consciousness in the world by democratizing coaching has attracted backing from leaders at Lululemon, Thinx, Headspace, and Viacom.Brooks is not only a successful business woman and visionary, she is a leader like none other. What is on your mind lately that might be causing reoccurring pain and trauma in your life? Is there room for forgiveness? Why is it important for us to forgive? When we hold onto things and stay stuck in past emotions, we are robbing ourselves of moving forward, and allowing light in. Our minds are powerful. We might be experiencing mental blocks that are really preventing us from experiencing our life in its full glory. If we are constantly living in the past, we won’t see what is ahead of us. Michelle provides listeners with some tangible ways to start a process of forgiveness.ALSO! Michelle shares some huge news about her first event this year! She is hosting a live podcast recording event at the Guild Inn in Scarborough. All are welcome. Stay tuned for more information. On this episode we dive into: Forgiveness as a necessary step in your self-love and development journeyReflecting on past experiences that are preventing you from moving forward Being conscious of living too much in the past, and missing out on the blessings in our presentHow to process forgivenessHow gratitude is a really important to step in the forgiveness processThe Take Home:We all have a past that has shaped us into who we are today. But our past is not always pretty. When we hold onto past experiences and sit in suffering, we are not embracing all of the blessings that are in our current lives.Michelle journals as a tool to help in her forgiveness processes. A question from listener, Alana: I’m a perfectionist, I’d love some tips on how to be less of a perfectionist. It can often be very tiring! . As a witness to perfectionists, Dana feels empathy for you, Alana. It takes a lot of effort and work to change deep patterns and habits in our lives. Use mindfulness as a way to help become aware of harmful patterns and habits. What is the motivation behind perfectionism? There are many deep layers to perfectionism, it is a very personal journey to explore. Decide what you truly love about yourself and show yourself grace. On this episode we dive into: The life as a perfectionist Giving yourself grace, perfectionism is embedded in us from a young ageBreaking out of societal normsCognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) might be an option to look intoCreating and embracing what you believe is imperfect, and perfectThe Take Home:Both Dana and Michelle have very easy going and their personalities are often in flow. But they can relate with the concept of being a perfectionist. The only reason we feel unworthy is because we are comparing ourselves to other people who we deem is perfect. It is a tiring cycle of judgement and comparison. Dana reminds us, we are all perfect, imperfections and all.“Leave who you were, love who you are. Look forward to who you will become.” -unknownPs. Celina is an entrepreneur and educator with an MBA in Organizational Psychology. From politics, to entrepreneurial-ship, this conversation is refreshing and absolutely important!Celina grew up in a very strict household. When she talks about her Mom, she reflects on a line in her book, Can You Hear Me Now,  “I feared her, while she feared for me, therefore she treated me the way she knew the world would.” Celina talks about the difficult life lessons she learned as she started to explore the world, outside of a strict foundational upbringing, how she parents her three children, why she entered the political world and what lead her to writing her book, Can You Hear Me Now.Celina talks about the micro-aggressions, sexism and racism that she experienced in politics as the only black female in her environment. She exposes the true un-belonging that is felt throughout the system of the white male’s club that is politics. Celina uses this as fuel as she so eloquently says to empower us, if she is not protected as an elected political official, how are our front line, minimum wage workers being treated? She feels an immense responsibility and love for her community to speak out and up. On this episode we dive into: Breaking down intergenerational traumaThe gender imbalances that arise in a family dynamicLearning the profound lessons from our mistakes Sharing what the political boardroom looks like to create inclusivityBeing unapologetic about expressing our values and principlesWhat it looks like to fight for equityUsing our privilege to make other’s lives easierMicro-aggressions and lack of accountability amongst white populations, specifically in politics Reorganizing the structure of institutions to be equitableCelina’s book, Can You Hear Me Now, and why it is one of the most important reads of 2021The take-home: How do we hold onto our values and principles in politics, or life, if they aren’t anchored and unwavering? “I am unwavering in my advocacy because I know what that hurt feels like. I advocate because I know what it feels like to be marginalized. To be sitting somewhere and thinking that nobody hears your voice, that they know what’s happening to you is wrong but they still aren’t protecting you.”We had an opportunity in Canada to lead against racism and it has not been addressed. Celina’s story about being blatantly gaslit and unprotected is one that we all need to hear. She provides us with profound metaphors in understanding deep oppressive processes. Thank you, Celina.Make change now:1.) Choosing to understanding the roots of the racism in our country. We have a choice to be racist or anti-racist.2.) We have to have an empathic courage. Include BIPOC in conversations to develop better policy. Book Recommendations:Can You Hear Me Now- Celina Caesar-ChavannesHow Will You Measure Your Life?- Clayton M. Today Dana and Michelle talk about self-image.A question from listener, Melissa: I’ve built a good life, I’m fairly successful, I have the house, the dog and the two kids but I feel like I’m not happy with who I am. I don’t know what it is that would make me feel better but I know I have more to offer and I have many passions that I’d love to try but how to get started? I’m scared and confused with where to start. We’ve all been here, Melissa (even if it looks like crying on the bathroom floor). Don’t look at the entire mountain of your passions, take it one step at a time, so that it’s not overwhelming and you don’t start to make excuses toward your own self-fulfillment. We don’t know what the path is going to look like, to self-fulfillment. It’s about taking the first steps forward. On this episode we dive into: Filling our own cupsGetting side-tracked away from ourselvesEstablishing healthy habits as a way to start working toward your bigger passionsCreating a self-image scriptAsking ourselves, how do we want to feel? What’s the most important thing for you to focus on right now? Pick that! The Take Home:When it comes to following and embracing our passions, both Dana and Michelle urge us to take small steps and create small habits to achieve the bigger goals. Dana picks the “co-create” card and it reminds us to create and manifest our realities! When you’re setting your intentions, consider setting a mantra for yourself that starts with “I am”..Journal Prompts:How do you want to feel? What do you want your life to look like?“Let go of who you think you are supposed to be and be who you are.”- Brene BrownPs. We don’t want to continue living in old habits if they aren’t serving us anymore. We have the power to create a life that we love.On this episode we dive into: The power of creating our self-imageWhat defines who we are? What type of tool belt do you need to buy yourself to change roles in your life? How our health and wellness habits shape who we areWhat is your love language? This part of knowing yourself is an important aspect in developing strong relationships. The Take Home:How do we become proactive in our lives, instead of reactive? On today’s episode, I chat with Dr. Kate Hazlitt, a Naturopathic Doctor who helps women that are disconnected and burnt out to develop the grit and courage to reclaim their innate bliss.Kate describes burnout as a period of time when we neglect our truest selves. She believes we are hardwired for bliss - but our society and conditioning have us spending more time outside of ourselves than ever. This means we seek external validation instead of practicing self-compassion, and this is often where the problems initially lay. Dr. Hazlitt also touches on how our self-neglect will show up as physical symptoms and to treat what we notice, we must focus on what we cannot see!On this episode we dive into: Disconnection and burnout. How a connection to yourself allows for a more fulfilling life. How self-neglect manifests into physical symptoms. How to practice self-compassion.Setting boundaries.Rhythmic commitment. The take-home: Oftentimes we find ourselves going to the Doctors with symptoms like anxiety, chronic headaches, or skin conditions thinking that the problem we see is the problem, but Dr. Hazlitt describes though, how our self-neglect will show up as physical symptoms in our body. Dr. Hazitt’s noticed in herself that her burnouts were cyclical. She would work hard for a long time and then as soon as she had holidays, she would fall ill. Upon noticing this pattern, she came to realize that her symptoms were due to her lack of self-compassion which resulted in her being “a mixed bag of hot mess”. Kate also said, “Most people know what they need to do, but they don’t”. Meaning that too many of us neglect our deepest desires or our truest selves. But if you do the work, like I know many of you are, then you can identify the areas in which you need the most compassion! Every person walking this planet, including you, warriors, has the potential inside of you to harness and then practice, self-compassion. And this is exactly what you need to prevent yourself from the agony of burning out!Get in touch with Dr. Kate HazlittInstagram Handle: @drkatehazlittnd 8 week Program - Burnout to Bliss: https://goodearthnaturopathic.thrivecart.com/burnout-to-bliss-8-week-program/Today's sponsorswww.revivalbymartinandco.com Discount code MUVE15www.CupofTe.ca Discount code MUVE

From listener, Lindsey: I have daughters and I want to make sure I’m helping them feel confident with who they are. What advice would you give?It starts with YOU. If you are sharing your own confidence and owning where you’re at, your children will absorb that. If you’re constantly putting your body down or picking yourself apart in the mirror, so will they. Wherever you are most confident, invite them in.  Show your kids that it is ok to make mistakes! Because your children will be more inclined to try something new if they know that it’s ok to make mistakes. On this episode we dive into: Clearing our social media feeds to feed our confidence not our insecurities Raising confident daughters Being conscious of how we show our own confidence around our children Being honest with our kids if we aren’t confident in a certain moment, to bring a sense of humble to a situation Dana pulls a card that reminds us to breathe and remain patientThe Take Home:A reminder from Dana, we aren’t aiming for perfection, we are aiming for a good time. Michelle recalls moments in which she shares her apprehensiveness to new experiences in front of her daughter, but she sees that it helps take the pressure off of her and she can be herself in these moments. When others around us are vulnerable with us, we can be vulnerable too. BOOK RECOMMENDATION: More Than a Body by Lexie and Lindsay Kite"If you don’t have confidence you’ll always find a way not to win.”- Carl LewisPs. On today’s episode, I chat with Jenny B, public speaker, and leadership coach! In the past year and a half, many of us have lost jobs, loved ones, and honestly? Even our minds at times - as did Jenny. Having lost all of her income streams within 48 hours, she managed to pivot when she needed to the most, and continue to share her gifts with the world! On this episode we dive into: Bouncing back after losing it all.Navigating relationships during times of struggle.Leaning on your partner when you need to.How to believe in yourself.Finding blessings through hard times.Using your own wisdom daily. The take-home: Jenny has been a public speaker for over 15 years helping people to believe in themselves and inspiring them to become leaders! But once the COVID19 pandemic hit, her entire career path had changed. Her story will inspire you to, “stop drinking your own kool-aid”, and instead, start believing that you always have something to offer to the world!Jenny, like all of us, had been impacted due to all of the changes that happened to our world in 2020. Within 48 hours she lost her job, all streams of income, and her tenant even pulled a “midnight move” without warning. Financial stress quickly seeped into her life, as her husband lost his job too. But none of this stopped her from continuing to believe in herself.Although times were tough and there was no end in sight of COVID19, Jenny and her husband helped pull each other out of their funk together and find a way to thrive. “I believe that I have things within me that people need.” Jenny claims, “I believe in myself and I teach others to believe in themselves too - and so who would I be if I didn’t do that?” Staying optimistic and continuing to move forward is what got her and her husband through. Well, that, and his realist views to help balance them out. One thing that Jenny says she is beyond grateful for is the ability to help her partner believe in himself and also having a partner who brings her back down to earth when she needs it, “because after all, we still need to pay our taxes…”Jenny compares rough times in life to exercising. If you want to see your muscles grow, you have to endure some pain. They will stretch, tear, and swell but, “It’s the hard things that sharpen us.” she says.  I know many of you, warriors, are going through hard times yourself, whether related to COVID19 or not, and Jenny is living proof that the only thing standing in your way preventing you from moving forward - is you. So what do you say, is it time you get out of your own way and start believing in yourself? I think so! And what better day to start, then today!Get in touch with with Jenny BWebsite: www.jennyb.ca Insta: @jennyb_yyz
