HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Gratitude is a superpower and here’s my top 5 reasons why I think that. The 5 secrets of gratitude… Gratitude is an antidepressant - grateful people feel well and are treated well. Gratitude softens our internal life - they are kinder, more gentler people. Gratitude defangs suffering - it attracts peace towards us. Gratitude is a way of taking our power back - from things and people in life. Gratitude is a free God given factory setting - that we should use far more than we do.

I’m not drawn to scary things, or at least not the frightening things that Halloween is famous for. Ghosts and monsters and ghouls. Horror has never really interested me. But the masks we wear that both conceal and reveal us. The darkness we must confront in ourselves and in the world. The ghouls that chase us with regret or shame. The monsters of trauma and loss that stalk us. The scary truths that chain us down until they’re finally acknowledged, all that interests me. Horror doesn’t interest me but finding strength and courage and beauty in the darkest center of the most horrifying things always has. Perhaps the scariest ghosts are the one who live inside us, the ones we ask: is it ok to be who I want to be, to do what I want to do and live how I wan to live? It’s the scariest ghost because it already knows the answer is YES! and that can be truly terrifying. 🙏🏼 Can you relate to this story I experienced? I hope this video and thought helps you today and gives you some language to something you or someone you know might be going through.

Do you struggle with any of these areas in being vulnerable? Speaking up? Saying No? Going for a new job? Lost a job? Having faith? Waiting for a medical outcome? Doing things alone? Reaching out to someone? Asking for help? Sharing your creativity? What is vulnerability to you? In this episode I share some tips on how to experiment with vulnerability as well as some of my vulnerability. I breakdown what are the qualities to look for in people that are good to share your vulnerability with. Vulnerability is complex and something I’ve struggled with all my life. It was a completely foreign concept in my fathers toxic masculinity parenting of us. Vulnerability is courage in you but it feels like inadequacy in me. I admire it in you but despise it in me. A behind the scenes look into working on a major tv show @NBCThisIsUs, the nuances of creativity, and not falling to the pressures of your society. Ken Olin is a Writer, Executive Producer, Director and actor who has directed many episodes of television for shows including the blockbuster TV show THIS IS US, as well as Brothers and Sisters, The West Wing, Alias and many more. In this conversation although this was our first time speaking together Ken and I had such a great flow, he is a great guy and you are going to love this chat it was as if I was catching up with a long time friend. Ken shares a lot about the nuances of his creative process and working as a major player in the show THIS IS US, which is one of my favourite shows so it was such a honour to speak with him about this. He shares about how he started out, and the differences between acting and directing, working with creative people and creating a healthy work culture. This conversation is for any who love creativity, has an interest in film and television, and great advice for working in your element and not falling to the pressures that your culture may expect from you. Ken also is vulnerable about raising his kids as well as managing his ambitions. And some great conversation about the hidden gifts of the pandemic. Questions I ask Ken… 4.32 - Where did the idea of the show THIS IS US come from? 6.20 - How do you think the views perceive the show? 9.30 - Where does the sense of connectivity come from with the show? It feels like a therapy session. 13.30 - Milos character and the nuances. 15.34 - Do actors decide certain parts of a role or is that scripted? 17.58 - How did you find such an amazing cast? 20.15 - Do you think being an actor makes you a better director, if so why? 23.54 - Do you miss acting? 26.36 - A common thread in your life that you can track, that took you into this world? 31.19 - The emerging generations observations of wanting to work in their calling, what’s your thoughts on this? 37.08 - This is us is speaking to human needs - loneliness, depression, racism… 38.33 - How do you switch off, hobbies, interests? 42.44 - Do you enjoy being a Dad? 46.30 - Quick fire questions… Something people often get wrong about you? Don’t forget to subscribe and share with me when you’re listening to this episode @PaulScanlonUK. Narcissism is all about a false self it’s a mask that people wear which slips over time and when it does you should be paying attention. It’s the fear of appearing ordinary which drives them to exaggeration and showing off to appear extraordinary. Don’t ever try to confront or change a narcissist it’s like trying to nail jelly to the wall. Wish them well and move away from their toxicity. Here are my 10 signs to look out for when it comes to narcissism to avoid in others and look out for if you have them in yourself. 1. They are self obsessed, self promoting and self absorbed whilst pretending to be interested in you. 2. They brainwash you to believe that you need them in your life because their life is far superior. 3. They manipulate you into their version of you. 4. They make you question your thoughts and decisions in favour of theirs. 5. They will never respect your boundaries because they only see their own importance. 6. They don’t mind ignoring shaming minimising or isolating you to serve themselves. 7. They will Gaslight and marginalise you then encourage and praise you simultaneously in the hope you don’t spot the manipulation. 8. They use people because their agenda and priorities are always more important. 9. They need people and relationships just like the rest of us but they’re unable to see others as equals. 10. They will only want you in their world if you offer them financial security, status, support their projects or just generally stroke their ego in some way. Your greatest gift to others is to be the healthiest version of you that you can be.I used to spend too much time working on others for me rather than working on me for them. Your personal health and well-being is the greatest gift you can give to the world. Personal development is the hardest work you will ever do, and often the least appreciated by those close to you. Make self improvement firstly for your own benefit then whether others notice or benefit from it at least you always will. You can’t give away what you don’t have. You can’t sustain withdrawals others make from your life without sufficient deposits that leave you with surplus. It doesn’t work with money or love or energy or life. You can’t love your neighbour with a love you have never given to yourself. --- Let me know when you're watching screenshot the episode and tag me in it @PaulScanlonUK and share with me your thoughts or a favourite quote.  Please leave a review of this podcast channel and I'd love for you to subscribe. Most of us want to live epic lives and be the hero of our own stories, but what if I told you that it’s far greater to fill a supporting role in an epic story than an epic role in a supporting story? We all want to be top ranked leaders, but it’s better to be a great sergeant than a bad general.  In this podcast episode, I want to discuss how our impact in the world can be far greater in roles that may not look as epic as we initially envision for ourselves.  *Enjoying what you’re hearing? Where you get excited about the process?  Not just the outcome - the study, investigation, conversation, research - all the things that are involved in how to get a good outcome - than that is an indication of what your passions and strengths are. If you’re struggling to figure out where you’re heading in life or what your passions and strengths are the pay attention to where you love process. We are so driven by validation through results that we assume successful outcomes is where we should look.  The secret and it is a secret because so few know it, is to look where you love the process not the results. Look at the creativity, study, planning, risk, uncertainty, struggle and effort that you love and there you will find yourself.  Look for something where you love the process and the rest will follow. Correlation is the connection we make between two or more things. Causation takes that a step further and decides what that connection means.  It’s human nature to lazily place unrelated things into an instant correlation without any thought to the tragic consequences that can have.  A black man jogging in a white neighbourhood is a CORRELATION, the belief that he’s a threat is then the following CAUSATION of his death.  Unless we examine our flawed correlations we will keep having flawed causes of all kinds of injustice, pain and suffering. ---- Don't forget to sign up to my free mini course on the FIVE BEHAVIOURS OF SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE visit - paulscanlon.com/freecourse

Our golden calves represent our addiction to certainty, our need to have a God that doesn’t move. It is the sin of certainty to believe that what and how we think about God is right and others are wrong. . Don’t confuse your faith in God with your thoughts about God, faith in God is not correct thinking about God. . There's two kinds of limitations:  Limitations of DESIGN and limitations of DEFAULT. The gift hidden within the limitations of design is that once you accept them they free you to work on your limitations of default. Limitations of default are things your should never accept because they are man made and man imposed. Stop wasting your time trying to change a God given limitation that's like trying to teach a pig to sing, it's wastes your time and annoys the pig. Start using your energy to push against the limitations of default that you've allowed to wrongly define you for years. Don't forget to subscribe, and leave us your review.
