If you're a roofing contractor, winning the game with insurance adjusters in the roofing business and insurance restoration general contracting involves playing THEIR game better than they do... using their rules against them... even though you're a roofer, it doesn't mean you can't beat them at their own game. Less friction, less resistance, more approvals... these are the benefits of going with the flow... speaking the insurance adjuster's language. Please let me know what your thoughts are below. If you do this on roofing claims - or water damage claims, hurricane claims, hail damage claims, wind damage claims, fire damage, etc. - you will lose and fail. It is so imperative that you first research the basic fundamentals of the insurance policy, starting with the declarations page (or "dec page"). You need to understand the maximum available coverage amounts for each section. You need to know whether the policy will pay "replacement cost value" (RCV) or "actual cash value" (ACV). You need to know if the policy has coverage for ordinance and laws (OL) and what the extent of the OL coverage is. You also need to know all information about the applicable deductibles. Setting up a supplement system for roofing insurance claims and insurance restoration general contracting claims needs to be one of your top priorities right now. My advice is to set up a supplementing system made up of three separate departments: the inspection department, the Xactimate estimate writing department and the insurance claim supplementing department. You need an inspector, an Xactimate estimate writer and an insurance claim supplementer. Listen to the episode to find out more about what I am referring to. Xactimate pricing for insurance repair jobs. Does Xactimate software pay enough money on insurance claims? My short answer is YES, but please allow me to explain. Many roofing contractors and restoration contractors get frustrated with Xactimate estimates because of the overall end price on an estimate. But the main reason why the estimate total is short usually is because the insurance adjuster or the contractor is missing ITEMS on the Xactimate estimate.

Are you struggling with insurance adjusters not approving overhead and profit (O&P) on your insurance jobs? The standards and "unwritten rules" on overhead and profit used to be any three trades or more (the 3 trade rule) would get you overhead and profit. Now insurance adjusters will typically say that the number of trades on an insurance job doesn't matter and that the job "must reach the level of complexity and/or coordination required of a general contractor to complete the job". Tips, strategies and advice for how to conduct meetings in the field with insurance adjusters. The roofing contractor or insurance restoration has a contractual obligation to perform all repairs that are prescribed by the insurance claim? So, what should you do when the insurance adjuster asks you if you "agree" to their lower estimate, just so they can send payment? Don't agree with anything before the build. Before the build is just an estimate and a hypothetical. You won't know what the job will actually take until you build it. Hopefully many contractors will gain value from this short segment. Roofing contractors often refer to the price of their services in "per square" terms. Everyone seems to be focused on how much per square a roof should cost. Is it possible to legally "COVER" the insurance deductible? Actually, yes, it is! But it absolute depends on how it is done. There are many methods not so advisable that a great deal of roofing contractors and restoration contractors use to "waive" the insurance deductible. This is absolutely reckless and not necessary at all. Especially since there are many LEGAL methods that can be deployed, which will keep the contractor out of trouble, as well as minimize liability to the property owner, which should be most important after all. It is perplexing to me how many roofing contractors, general contractors, restoration contractors, public adjusters, insurance adjusters and property owners aren't FIRST focusing on protecting properties after a catastrophe. Roof tarps are insurance company APPROVED! Drywall, insulation, carpet, wood, etc... these products cannot withstand rain. The property owner has the obligation to mitigate the damages; to stop the bleeding. If the roof is damaged and water is leaking into the property, the property must be tarped. The insurance company will approve the tarp to prevent further massive damage to the property. Not only in major hurricanes, but also when the roof suffers damage from extensive hail.
