In this episode (038) I speak about the parts and features of a dream, then expound on a few things that you should never allow to happen to your dreams.  This is a heartfelt solo podcast inspired by my journey, as well as the passing of many legends and fellow dreamers, like many yourselves, who I wanted to honour. Maxwell in Success Magazine, he gives a definition of a dream that I like.  He said, “A dream is an inspiring picture of the future that energizes your mind, will and emotions, empowering you to do everything you can to achieve it. A dream worth pursuing is a picture and blueprint of a person's purpose and potential.”There are so many important words in that definition such as INSPIRING, FUTURE, ENERGIZES, EMPOWERING YOU TO DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO ACHIEVE IT, BLUEPRINT OF A PERSON’S PURPOSE AND POTENTIAL.So today I wanted to talk a little bit about that blueprint, the features, parts or the anatomy of a dream.  Some of these features include: The dream has to be YOURS - The genesis of YOUR dream can only come from within you.  Caroline Myss (pronounced Mace) said: “People suffer when they pursue a life or chase a dream that doesn't belong to them.”  This powerful quote made me think of the many people that are suffering because they chased a dream that belonged to other people such as their parents or partner or some other person of influence who led to them to believe a particular path was right for them, and derail them from a path that they should have chosen. A dream must make you uncomfortable ...if even only slighty - Though I ultimately feel the fulfilment of your dreams will make you one of the happiest persons ever, nothing that you want that bad rarely ever comes easy.  I remember my first days in music college in the United States sitting in the cafeteria alone, seeing many people that looked and sounded different from me, having conversations that I couldn’t relate to, thinking ‘What in the world have I done’.  Sleeping on an uncomfortable single dorm room bed at 27 years of age, enduring brutal winters and sharing a communal shower.  Barely the worst deal in life, but it made me come to the realisation that love has to be the root of choosing many discomforts in pursuit of one passion.  The journey absolutely took me through many unregrettable discomforts to get to where I am now, and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. A dream can mature, change or evolve - I remembered when I had my first dream to be an international recording artiste, it was linear and rigid, black and white, but as I matured I failed to realise that I would want different things in life and that these things would influence said dreams that I had been so unwavering about.  I’d soon recognise that life is fluid, and so it the dream.  So I had to be willing to allow universal flow to open new doors that would take me to places I had never imagined, and that my initial dream would never have gotten me. A Dream must be nurtured - In order for a dream to affect your future purpose and potential, then it must be fed to grow. Fed a diet of courage, support, research and love, and if you don’t get this nourishment from others, then you will have to find it within yourself. A dream must be connected to a purpose - This is probably one of the most important lessons I had to learn when I realised that my dream to perform couldn’t be self-serving.  If we really a talk truth, I think most singers decide to perform, to see their name in bright lights and to hold a shiny award, but the picture is so much bigger.  Charity, mentorship, influence, inspiration are just a few of the purposeful offshoots of the dream,  instead of fame, celebrity status or just mere consumption with self. I call is career masturbation, but narcissism aside, hopefully, your dream will help others.   These, in my opinion, are some of the main features of a dream, but I couldn’t share these without also sharing a few important things I don’t wish for you to let happen to your dreams: Don’t allow another to prevent your dream from happening whether through discouragement, jealousy, ignorance or lack of support. Don’t sleep on, or overthink your dream to its death - Don’t let analysis paralysis be your best friend.  Instead, just start.  It doesn’t have to be perfect, and thankfully life gives you the opportunity to tweak it and make it better. Don’t diminish your dream - Keep your dream big.  Let it be just outside of your reach.  That way you will never get bored of chasing it, and it will always push you forward.  Columnist Maureen Dowd says, “The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for.”  The truth is, being average isn’t for big dreamers. Don’t be afraid to pursue your dream - To those who lack courage, think of a life filled with the regrets of never knowing what would have happened if you had tried.  That definitely always fuels me.  You have a lot less to lose than you think, except for your peace of mind, and when your peace of mind is dead, sometimes all of you dies, and that’s something we never want. Don’t accept that you don’t have a dream - To those who say ‘But I’m not passionate about anything.  I don’t have a dream.’, I ask of you to think back to your childhood and ask yourself what you wanted to become as a child.  Think about what excited you and made you happy without the judgment of parents and the expectations of adulthood.  If you’re able to find that child, then tap back into that thing, that feeling, that activity that made you come alive.  It may lead you to your dream. In the words of Joel Osteen, "Believe big and pray bold".  I believe this is good advice, and whether your dream doesn’t yet exist, stays the same, or keeps evolving...Just never stop dreaming.I dedicate this episode firstly to music.  You are my 1st unconditional love, a stern teacher about the qualities of loyalty, commitment, discipline and perseverance.  I have always loved you and I still love you and I thank you.And this episode I also dedicate to a few big dreamers that have recently passed away: Jamaican singer, Millie Small Singer, friend and my former lecturer at the Berklee College of Music, Jeff Ramsey Friend and University of Technology Faculty Member, Jamar Thelwell Multi-potentialite, NBA legend, filmmaker et al, Kobe Bryant and his talented and beautiful daughter GiGi American Singer-Songwriter, Little Richard Runner, young black man with tremendous potential, Ahmaud Arbery May your souls rest in peace, and thank you, thank you and thank you for your contributions to this world.★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

In this episode, I speak to Recording Artiste, CK aka Clara Kahwa about being single.  Clara is a passionate and beautiful human with an electric energy, and I couldn’t think of anyone better to have this exciting conversation with.  She has been single for many years, and candidly expresses her journey as a single woman in Jamaica and her desires for her future relationships.  We covered the following: Tell me about CK? How long have you been single? What has the single journey been like? How long did it take to heal from your breakup? Types of single: Single not looking Single think they’re ready Single and open You had a “mental health situation”, was it pre-existing or did it emerge from a breakup? Tell me a bit about your single experience in Jamaica? “The person you need to show up for is you. Love doesn’t show up when we are hoping for it but when we are ready for it.  Focus on manifesting the person you want to be. Grow so fast that every time you feel there is a need you want someone else to meet, you rise to meet that need yourself.” - Vishen Lakhiani I speak a little about being single. CK asks me who did I speak to when I was going through heartbreak? Comment on your fear of stumbling upon a gay or bisexual man as your boyfriend? Would you date a bisexual man? Children. Yes or no? How many? Online Dating. Yes or no? Do you have a lower age limit for dating? What’s the lowest you’d go? Would you date outside of your race? Would you date outside of your culture? In this episode, Tami Chin Mitchell and I have a conversation about discovering and sitting in our truths.  We explore the truth from many different perspectives and have a candid discussion about the pros, the cons and everything in between.  Here is an overview of what we discussed:How would you define personal truth?Facts vs TruthGod, Religion & Spirituality as it relates to TruthWhat were the other ways that you accessed truth? Is there a space where you need to have a mask?Does your truth need to be public?Does your truth have to be a broken moment?Being a barometer for your truth.Did you have any definitive moments of your truth being realized?Children and the truth.People who say unkind things to others under the guise of it being truth.People sharing other people’s truth.  Whose right is it?What if your truth puts you at harm?Celebrity truths revealed.Forgiveness & truth.Rapid Fire Questions: What are some of the Pros of living a truthful life? What would say are the greatest cons of a truthful life? If there was anyone in your life alive or dead that was willing to share their personal truth with you, who would it be? Tell me a bit about your project ‘Honour the Valley’?What are your final words on sitting in your personal truth?PERSONAL TRUTH (Dr. Phil): Our personal truth is what we really say to ourselves when our social mask is off. Once you decide what your personal truth is, then you'll be less vulnerable to what others say. The stronger you feel about yourself and the more confidence you have, the more susceptibility to what others say will decline.Consume this podcast at:http://talktruthja.comorhttp://marioevon.com/talk-truthAS WELL AS ON:Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL3RhbGstdHJ1dGgtamEApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/talk-truth-with-mario-evon/id1462859890Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3fJCKnLjpgmFzQR41dfCieTuneIn: http://tun.in/pjrb4Pocket Casts: https://pca.st/UokqRadio Public: https://radiopublic.com/talk-truth-with-mario-evon-WPJvpQStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/s?fid=401983&refid=stprCastbox: https://castbox.fm/channel/id2121982Overcast: https://overcast.fm/itunes1462859890/talk-truth-with-mario-evonConnect with Mario Evon at:Website: http://www.MarioEvon.comTwitter: http://www.twitter.com/MarioEvonInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/MarioEvonFacebook: http://www.facebook.com/MarioEvonMusicYouTube: http://www.YouTube.com/MarioEvonSnapchat: @MarioEvonConnect with Talk Truth at:Email: talktruthja@gmail.comTwitter: http://twitter.com/TalkTruthJaIf you are interested in being a guest, complete the following form:http://smarturl.it/TalkTruthGuestSend us an email to talktruthja@gmail.com, with topics that you'd like us to discuss and any feedback you may have.In your social media posts, tag ME, @MarioEvon and use hashtags #TalkTruthJA and #METalkTruth and @talktruthja (Twitter only).Music for Podcast: Reggae Meets Soul (Outro) - Mario EvonPodcast artwork image captured by Tiffany Lue-YenNOTABLE QUOTES:“The way in which you live your life is your truth.”“The truth is what sits well with my soul.”“Finding your truth is freedom” - Tami Chin Mitchell“Checking back in with your truth will always be the compass to tell you what to do next.” - Tami Chin Mitchell“Your truth can change; it’s ever-changing, ever-growing.” - Tami Chin Mitchell“Do not be afraid of who you are.” - Tami Chin Mitchell“We are busying ourselves to not acknowledge who we are.” - Tami Chin Mitchell“The beauty of the truth is that it’s yours.” - Tami Chin Mitchell★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

In this the final episode of Season 1, we explore what the listeners wanted to know about.  Questions were submitted anonymously and via email and as always were answered candidly and honestly.  Check out this episode to learn a lot more about ME, and while you enjoy the break, keep sharing ‘Talk Truth with Mario Evon’ with your friends until we return. With all the plastic surgery at a high now and men tend to love big breasts and butt. Do you think Jamaican men are attracted to the plastic (fakeness) and can they even tell if the woman had any work done?Who is your ultimate interviewee?Have you ever had to “fire” a patient? What scares you most when you are about to take a major step with your creativity? For example, launching a new single. How do you manage the naysayers and critics who question or doubt the seriousness, competence and passion with which you pursue both careers in music and medicine? What are the emotional and other resources required and how did you develop those resources? So it doesn't look like you grew up with sisters...what was it like for your mother in a household of men ...meaning, how did she navigate nurturing all of you yet maintaining her self-identity and position as a strong, grounded woman? Again, an assumption, but I really don't think it's wrong. Hearing her perspective from her own mouth on the programme would be nice. How do you negotiate to be your true self with the demands of the world for you to conform or be somebody else? Example, being a doctor, lawyer, teacher; not an artist, farmer, photographer, etc.Rephrase: How do you become your authentic self when society has a framework for you to become someone else? What inspires your changing hairstyles? Are you ever afraid of what people will think? When are you going to drop the next album? What are the attributes you would look your soulmate? What qualities must they possess? How deeply does the question "what's next" irks you as a creative? And what are some of your experiences (and processing of those experiences) with creativity blocks?  Do you think society is sensitive enough towards the creative processes of artists to include creative blocks? And what can be done to cultivate that? How would you describe your transition or growth...or evolution rather... from the little boy at Mona Prep to Dr, Mario Evon, Guthrie? And how has it impacted your emotional self and personal growth? I feel like your family has a nice little dynamics about it. I don't know them personally but I don't get the sense of toxic masculinity (meaning the over-exertion of societal ideas of masculinity) having being a part of the makeup. I feel like love existed in very expressed ways and this is evident in the way you talk to/with each other on the respective Talk Truth episodes. Alot of men have never experienced that, and women too, and would appreciate hearing about the experience. So my question is, what was it like growing up with a father and a brother who didn't exist with the fear of love between men; and how has that transcended as you and your brother got older?  Consume this podcast at:http://talktruthja.comorhttp://marioevon.com/talk-truthAS WELL AS ON:Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL3RhbGstdHJ1dGgtamEApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/talk-truth-with-mario-evon/id1462859890Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3fJCKnLjpgmFzQR41dfCieTuneIn: http://tun.in/pjrb4Pocket Casts: https://pca.st/UokqRadio Public: https://radiopublic.com/talk-truth-with-mario-evon-WPJvpQStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/s?fid=401983&refid=stprCastbox: https://castbox.fm/channel/id2121982Overcast: https://overcast.fm/itunes1462859890/talk-truth-with-mario-evonConnect with Mario Evon at:Website: http://www.MarioEvon.comTwitter: http://www.twitter.com/MarioEvonInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/MarioEvonFacebook: http://www.facebook.com/MarioEvonMusicYouTube: http://www.YouTube.com/MarioEvonSnapchat: @MarioEvonConnect with Talk Truth at:Email: talktruthja@gmail.comTwitter: http://twitter.com/TalkTruthJaIf you are interested in being a guest, complete the following form:http://smarturl.it/TalkTruthGuestSend us an email to talktruthja@gmail.com, with topics that you'd like us to discuss and any feedback you may have.In your social media posts, tag ME, @MarioEvon and use hashtags #TalkTruthJA and #METalkTruth and @talktruthja (Twitter only).Music for Podcast: Reggae Meets Soul (Outro) - Mario EvonArtwork Photo by Tiffany Lue Yen Photography.Special thanks to Wayne Guthrie for assistance with Audio Engineering.NOTABLE QUOTES:“The people who doubt your seriousness are not the ones who are really watching.”★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
