029. In the 21st century, there are countless ways to learn. I mean, there are podcasts, online courses, YouTube videos, conferences, workshops, masterminds, and so many other options.  These are all great resources and opportunities; however, I don’t know about you, but sometimes, I need to learn the old fashioned way with black text on white paper where I can write notes in the margins, make highlights, and dogear the pages I want to return to.  With this in mind, in this episode of Priority Pursuit, we’re talking books. And, I’m excited to share what I believe are 10 must-read books for creative entrepreneurs!  Note: You’ll find links to purchase each of these books from both Amazon and Second Flight Books below each description. Second Flight Books is a wonderful bookstore in Lafayette, Indiana. If you can, I want to encourage you to show Second Flight Books a little love by shopping small and purchasing from this local bookstore!   10 Must-Read Books for Creative Entrepreneurs Building a What began as a fun, unique way to raise money for a mission trip through watercolor artistry became a passion, a way to connect with others, and a successful business.  Jessie Roseberry of Roseberry & Co. is a watercolor artist and educator based in West Lafayette, Indiana. While Jessie’s business started small in 2017, she quickly had more work than she could handle on her own. Jessie knew she needed to add help if she wanted to continue serving her clients well. In this episode of Priority Pursuit, Jessie shares valuable insights into the process of hiring and building a team that will grow and support your business—even if this simply means hiring one person to help you a couple hours per week.  Jessie explains: How to know you need help within your business The process of adding and training new team members Strategies for overcoming challenges when building your team Helpful tips for when you’re feeling overwhelmed in your business The insights, honest stories, and wisdom Jessie shares about her business and building a team as a creative entrepreneur are valuable nuggets for any business owner who is feeling a little (or very) overwhelmed and is ready to make a change! 028. In August, I had the opportunity to attend WPPI—a photography conference in Vegas. I learned a lot and had a great time with my good friend Jasmine Norris.  But, since attending this conference and specifically Ben Hartley’s “Work Hard on Your Business, Make a Salary. Work Hard on Yourself, Make a Fortune” lecture, there’s been one piece of advice that I can’t stop thinking about, and that’s Ben’s recommendation to “have high standards but low expectations.”  In this episode of Priority Pursuit, we’re exploring: What it means to have high standards but low expectations Examples of high standards and how to set them How having low expectations can improve your mindset  You can find a more detailed version of the show notes at http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/why-important-have-high-standards-low-expectations-creative-entrepreneur-according-ben-hartley.  Links & Mentioned Resources WPPI - https://wppiexpo.com/  Ben Hartley - https://benhartley.com/  Booked Solid Course - https://sixfigurephotography.com/booked/  Six Figure Photography Podcast - https://sixfigurephotography.com/  Receive 50% Off Your First Order with Photographer’s Edit - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/pe/  Save 50% on Your First Six Months of Quickbooks Self-Employed - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/quickbooks/  Join the Priority Pursuit Facebook Community - https://www.facebook.com/groups/179106264013426

027. If you’re checking out this episode while it’s still new, then it’s early October. And, you’re likely thinking, “Slow season? Why are we talking about slow season? We’re in the midst of/we’re about to approach my business’s busiest time of year!”  And, friend, I get it. If you’re a photographer or wedding vendor, fall likely has you busy right now. Or, if you own a boutique, work in retail, or have another business where many of your sales happen during the holidays, your busy season is just beginning.  That said, your busy season will come to an end, and for many businesses, a “slow season” follows the busy season. But, just because shoots, sales, etc. slow down doesn’t mean you don’t have things to do. In fact, slow season is the perfect time to work “on” your business instead of “in” your business so you can help your business grow and improve.  To help you plan ahead, set goals, and make the most of your slow season, in this week’s episode of Priority Pursuit, we’re discussing eight ways you can improve your business this slow season!  Create or revisit your ideal client avatar. Update your website. Create content for the next year. Create a social media calendar. Prepare publication submissions.  Address any inefficiencies in your business.  Improve your client experience. Invest in professional development.  You can find a more detailed version of the show notes at http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/eight-ways-improve-business-slow-season.  Links & Mentioned Resources “Episode 020: How to Identify Your Ideal Customer as a Creative Entrepreneur with Nate Dale of New Adventure Productions” -https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-identify-ideal-customer/  Treefrog Marketing https://www.treefrogmarketing.com/  ShowIt - https://showit.co/  “Eight Things Your Photography Website Needs to Convert Visitors into Clients” - https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/eight-things-your-photography-website-needs/  “Episode 022: How to Get Published as a Wedding Photographer with Jasmine Norris” - https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-published-wedding-photographer-jasmine-norris/  Iris Works - https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/iris/  “Episode 011: How to Build Your Team as a Creative Entrepreneur with Jessie Roseberry of Roseberry & Co” - https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/build-your-team-as-a-creative-entrepreneur-jessie-roseberry/  “Episode 017: How to Create a Client Experience that Allows You to Book More Clients & Raise Your Prices” - https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-create-client-experience-allows-book-more-clients-raise-prices/  “Episode 018: How to Create the Perfect Client Welcome Gift” - https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-create-perfect-client-welcome-gift/  Receive 50% Off Your First Order with Photographer’s Edit - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/pe/  Save $50 On Your First Order of $100 or more from KISS Books - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/kiss/    Save 50% on Your First Six Months of Quickbooks Self-Employed - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/quickbooks/  Join the Priority Pursuit Facebook Community - https://www.facebook.com/groups/179106264013426

023. If you’ve listened to a single episode of “Priority Pursuit,” you know I don’t believe that work-life balance exists. And, friend, this is largely because there are busy seasons. There are busy seasons in life for various reasons, and as creative entrepreneurs, most of us face busy seasons simply because that’s how our industries work.  For instance, as a wedding photographer in the Midwest, May through October tend to be very busy for me because we only have six months of nice weather per year, so most people get married during this timeframe.  This episode is by no means about how to make busy seasons stress free or how to prevent busy weeks, months, or quarters altogether. Instead, this episode is simply about how you can prepare for, manage, and—not to be dramatic—but survive busy seasons in your business when they inevitably come with five tips and tricks: Set boundaries. Front load those who will be affected by your busy season. Put your business priorities—the things that move the needle in your business—above all else.  Outsource what you can.  When busy season is over, reassess your boundaries.  You can find a more detailed version of the show notes at: http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-prepare-survive-busy-seasons-creative-entrepreneur. 021. In this week’s episode of “Priority Pursuit,” Greta Hale, a personal trainer and owner of Healthy As Hale, joined me to share her heart when it comes to mental health and battling depression while running a small business. Greta is open in sharing about her own mental health struggles and why mental health advocacy continues to be so important. As a teenager, Greta faced serious health concerns that put her under enormous mental pressure and stress. Looking back, she realized she didn’t know how to express her feelings and as a result, didn’t speak up when she was struggling. This ultimately led to a suicide attempt. Her mental health struggles as a teenager have continued to follow her into adulthood as she strives to prioritize her own health, be a wife and a mama, and be a student, manage her depression symptoms, and run her business.   In this episode, Greta answers the following questions: Why is being transparent about mental health so important? What is your advice for people who think they may need help? What are practical ways small business owners can cope?  What would you tell someone who is running a business and struggling? 017. Friend, can I tell you something that you likely don’t want to hear? The quality of the client experience that you offer matters far more than the quality of your products or services.  I don’t know about you, but as a photographer, I love what I do, and I take a lot of pride in my work. I want my images to speak for themselves, and I want people to book with me because they love my photos.  But, here’s the thing. The average person doesn’t know what makes a great photo. The average person doesn’t look at a photo and think, “Whoa. I bet that harsh light was hard to shoot in. Victoria killed it!” Or, “I so appreciate how Victoria used lead lines and framed the couple in these images. She has to be our wedding photographer!”  Now, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t master your craft or offer anything less than great work, but with this in mind, there comes a point where the key to being able to successfully sell your products or services at a luxury or just a higher price point that allows you to make ends meet is the client experience you offer.  With this in mind, the next few solo episodes of Priority Pursuit are going to focus on strategic ways you can elevate your client experience. We’ll be talking about ways you can surprise your clients, how to create the perfect welcome box, and more. And, today, we’re going to start by simply thinking about and mapping out what you’d like your client experience to look like touchpoint by touchpoint with your ideal customer in mind.  - Step 1: Know that the basis of a great customer experience is to under promise & over deliver.  - Step 2: Determine what’s most important to your ideal customer in regards to your products or services.  - Step 3: Map out what you’d like every step & touch point of your customer experience to look like.  You can find a more detailed version of this episode’s show notes at: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-create-client-experience-allows-book-more-clients-raise-prices  Mentioned Links & Resources Show Notes: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-create-client-experience-allows-book-more-clients-raise-prices    “Episode 014: 4 Easy Ways You Can Under Promise & Over Deliver to Your Customers” - https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/four-ways-you-can-under-promise-over-deliver-to-your-clients/  The Power of Moments by Chip Heath and Dan Heath - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1501147765/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1501147765&linkCode=as2&tag=rayburnvict05-20&linkId=e808b659abf487b835727c134bd11ca1  Katelyn James’ Bridal Guide - https://katelynjames.com/kj-bridal-guide  Katelyn James Courses - https://katelynjames.com/store  How to Create a Customer Avatar with DigitalMarketer - https://www.digitalmarketer.com/blog/create-customer-avatar-youtube/ Pixellu Smartslides - https://www.pixellu.com/smartslides/  Episode 011: How to Build Your Team as a Creative Entrepreneur with Jessie Roseberry of Roseberry & Co. - https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/build-your-team-as-a-creative-entrepreneur-jessie-roseberry/  Join the Priority Pursuit Podcast Facebook Community - https://www.facebook.com/groups/179106264013426    Receive 50% Off Your First Order with Photographer’s Edit - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/pe/  Save 50% on Your First Six Months of Quickbooks Self-Employed - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/quickbooks/  Receive $20 Off Your First Pair of Rothy’s - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/rothys

016. In this week’s episode of Priority Pursuit, we’re discussing arguably the easiest and most affordable way to receive more inquiries and grow your business—online reviews! 4 Reasons Online Reviews Matter for Small Businesses Word of mouth is your most powerful marketing tool Prospective clients will look at your online reviews before ever contacting you Having online reviews can boost your search engine rankings Online reviews can improve your local search rankings Make Asking for Reviews Parks of Your Workflow If you aren’t already, ask your clients to leave you reviews! After you’ve served your clients’ socks off, send them a short email thanking them for their business and asking them to leave you a review on Google, Facebook, Yelp and/or any other review site that makes sense for your business (like The Knot if you’re a wedding photographer). Don’t wait to do this. Today, I want you to think of a client you’ve served recently who was really happy with your work. Send this client an email and ask him or her to leave you a review! 015. Arielle Peters of Arielle Peters Photography is a wedding photographer and educator based in South Bend, Indiana. When she isn’t capturing photos of blushing brides on their wedding days or offering workshops and coaching sessions to fellow photographers, she’s spending time with her husband Tannan and their energetic children who constantly keep them on their toes.  Life has been very busy for Arielle since 2010. You see, she started her business (part time and then went full time), got married and became a pastor’s wife, had two children, and added an education component to her business. And, now, Arielle and Tannan are in the process of planting a church.    Arielle by no means claims to have things all together and is a self-proclaimed recovering workaholic, but her business is thriving, she strives to be present for her kids, and in this episode of “Priority Pursuit,” she’s sharing a few tips and tricks that have allowed her to juggle (not necessarily balance) entrepreneurship and motherhood.  Schedule regular help with your kids.   Manage your time by outsourcing.  Create boundaries that protect time with your family.  Evaluate your business yearly, to determine what is and isn’t working for your business and family.  Give yourself grace and lots of it.   For a more detailed written version of this episode, visit https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/balancing-entrepreneurship-motherhood-arielle-peters. 014. Are you familiar with the concept of “under promising and over delivering”? Basically, this is a customer service strategy where you give your clients more than you initially promised to delight them and make them feel valued and well served. I believe that under promising and over delivering is key in running a successful business of any size and crucial in offering great customer service. With this in mind, in this episode of Priority Pursuit, we’re going to discuss four easy ways you can under promise and over deliver to your clients so you can (1) better serve your customers and (2) help your business grow! 012. Do you have set systems in your business? Or, are you flying by the seat of your pants and simply spending day after day trying to get as much done as you can and going to bed stressed because you “didn’t get enough done”?  As creative entrepreneurs, we make our own schedules, which is a beautiful thing. But, if we aren’t careful, our days can turn into nothing more than putting out fires or getting distracted by whatever we’re excited about at the moment.  In order to serve your clients well and prioritize the things that actually move the needle in your business, you need to have systems in place to make sure that what’s most important is getting done as efficiently as possible.  So, in this episode of Priority Pursuit, I want to share what my post-wedding process or system looks like with you in hopes of inspiring you to create concrete systems in your own business. Now, if you aren’t a photographer, please don’t tune this out. While I’m using a photography example, chances are, a system can be created around every facet of your business. You just need to break it down.  What is a system? Within your business, a system is simply an organized way of completing what’s usually a large task, and systems are most effective when there are deadlines or time scheduled specifically for the task.  Victoria’s Post Wedding Workflow Saturday Shoot wedding Sunday Edit previews for social media Monday Cull photos using Photo Mechanic Select photos for blog using Photo Mechanic Begin editing blog photos Tuesday Finish editing blog photos Use BlogStomp to optimize photos for blog Share images with Emma (my VA) so she care create the clients’ album and blog post Wednesday Write the couple’s blog post Begin preparing content for social media posts Emma creates album  Emma adds blog to website Share album preview/slideshow with couple Thursday Share blog post Post to social media Share with the bride on Facebook Share in the VRP bride Facebook group Tag vendors in these posts Tag anyone I can (vendors plus bridal party members) in Instagram post and in Instagram stories Send couple an email to let them know blog is up and a Pixieset gallery featuring all blogged photos so they can download if they like Send same pixieset gallery to all vendors Thursday & Friday Emma pins wedding Emma submits wedding for publication via Two Bright Lights Batch review other shoots and weddings after receiving Lightroom catalogs back from Photographer’s Edit When gallery is ready Upload photos to Pixieset Emma creates a slideshow to music via SmartSlides  Let clients know their gallery is ready via email and schedule their “viewing party” Prep flash drive and mail them a gift with a thank you note Follow up with couple about their wedding album How to Create Your Own Systems Pick one task of project that you have to complete on the regular  Write out each and every task needed to complete the task or project Determine deadlines or timeframes for each of these tasks (e.g. Choose specific days of the week to dedicate to these tasks) Block out time on your calendar to complete each task Set boundaries to protect time for these tasks Start working within these systems  For a written version of this podcast, visit https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-create-systems-within-business-aka-workflow-wedding-photographer.  Mentioned Links & Resources Show Notes: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-create-systems-within-business-aka-workflow-wedding-photographer  Photo Mechanic: https://home.camerabits.com/  BlogStomp: https://www.stompsoftware.com/  Photographer’s Edit: http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/pe/   KISS Books: https://www.kiss.us/  SmartSlides: https://www.pixellu.com/smartslides/  Join the “Priority Pursuit Podcast” Facebook Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/179106264013426 Receive 50% Off Your First Order with Photographer’s Edit - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/pe/  Save $50 on Your First Order from KISS Books of $100 or More - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/kiss/  Follow Victoria on Instagram: @victorialrayburn or https://www.instagram.com/victorialrayburn/

010. Anna and Ryan Leonard of Refuge Photography are crossfit buddies; sushi enthusiasts; and a destination, husband-wife photography team based in Rosemary Beach Florida.  If you meet these two in person or even just follow them on the Gram, you’ll quickly fall in love with them. Between their service-centered hearts, matching PJs, and their frequent use of confetti, Ryan and Anna are essentially the epitome of “couple goals.”  That said, owning and operating a business with your spouse is harder than most people realize.  With this in mind, in this week’s episode of Priority Pursuit, Ryan and Anna are sharing what running a business with your spouse is actually like. Spoiler Alert: Ryan and Anna work until 2:00 am far more often than they take sunset walks on the beach.  While I want to encourage you to listen to this full episode of Priority Pursuit because Ryan and Anna share countless nuggets of marriage and business wisdom in this episode that are applicable to both spouse business owners and simply married couples, you can find a summary of a few of the biggest takeaways from “Episode 010: The Good, The Hard, & The Myths About Running a Business with Your Spouse with Ryan & Anna Leonard of Refuge Photography” below!  Consistent work is what leads to results.  Focus on your spouse’s positives—not their negatives—& divide responsibilities based on one another’s strengths.  Decide TOGETHER how hard & long you want to hustle. If you aren’t a spouse team, don’t feel like your marriage is less than.  Let your shared values & mission be the driving force behind both your marriage & your business.  For a more detailed written version of this episode, visit https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/running-business-with-spouse-ryan-anna-leonard-refuge-photography  Links & Resources Mentioned in This Episode Show Notes: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/running-business-with-spouse-ryan-anna-leonard-refuge-photography  “Episode 005: What It’s Like & Why It’s Hard to Be Married to a Creative Entrepreneur”: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/what-like-why-hard-be-marrried-creative-entrepreneur/  Showit United Conference: https://united.showit.co/  Ryan’s Preferred Suitcase: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VNRW18X/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B07VNRW18X&linkCode=as2&tag=rayburnvict05-20&linkId=f817e830b3f518ca7879822f223d4a94  The Go-giver by Bob Burg & John David Mann: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0241976278/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0241976278&linkCode=as2&tag=rayburnvict05-20&linkId=4fd8ee45b8bdd7bdde4d4803dbf98697  How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0671027034/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0671027034&linkCode=as2&tag=rayburnvict05-20&linkId=84c96b8906e30abd5a53b0c7fe2c5582  Join the Priority Pursuit Podcast Facebook Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/179106264013426    Save $50 on Your First Order from KISS Books of $100 or More: http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/kiss/  Receive 50% Off Your First Order with Photographer’s Edit: http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/pe/ Save 50% on Your First Six Months of Quickbooks Self-Employed: http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/quickbooks/

008. When there are countless others out there who offer the same product or service that you do, how can you stand out in the marketplace?  According to Photographer’s Edit CEO, Miilu CEO, and Bokeh Podcast Host Nathan Holritz, one of the most effective ways that your business can stand out in a saturated market is by crafting a unique brand position statement and strategically including this statement on your website, on social media, and in your other marketing materials.  If you’ve read Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller (which Nathan and I highly recommend that you do), you may already be familiar with this concept.  However, determining your brand position can be easier said than done. I mean, it was for me anyway! Because Nathan knows how powerful brand position statements can be, in this episode of Priority Pursuit, he breaks down exactly how to define and communicate your brand position so you can stand out in your market and increase sales! In this episode, Nathan answers:  What is a unique brand position, and why is it important for creative entrepreneurs to determine what their unique brand position is? What are examples of good and bad brand positions?  Establish a big picture view.  Look at the market & find a gap.  Develop a business model around this messaging.  How can you determine your brand position? On your website above the fold On social media  In conversation Once you know your unique brand position, how can you practically communicate it? 007. As a creative entrepreneur, your plate is full. Between serving your clients, marketing your business, and doing all the things you have to do behind the scenes, it can be difficult to find time to sit down and think about your brand.  But, friend, you need to. Because, your brand should be the basis of all of your marketing efforts and the driving force behind almost all of your business decisions and systems.  With this in mind, today on Priority Pursuit, I’m excited to discuss what a brand is, why your brand matters, and how to develop and communicate your brand as a creative entrepreneur with six simple strategies.  Here’s a summary of what’s discussed: What is a brand? As a creative entrepreneur, your brand is: How people perceive you, your business, your work, your services, and your products  The gut feeling you, your business, your work, your services, and your products give your customers What comes to mind when people think about you, your business, your work, your services, and your products Why is it important for you to develop your brand?  Taking time to define your brand is important, because according to Donald Miller, author of Building a StoryBrand, “clarity” or clear messaging is the key to both strategic marketing and making sales. And, in order to make your messaging clear, you have to determine your brand. When you take the time to define your brand, you can decide:  How you want your business to be perceived in the marketplace What comes to mind when people think about your business What problems you can solve for your customers  Then, when your brand is developed, you can (1) use it as a basis for all of your marketing efforts to create consistency—which is key in establishing a strong brand—and (2) clearly communicate how you can make your customers’ lives better or easier. This consistency and clarity will help you stand out and be remembered when prospective customers are looking for your products or services.  Basically, in order to make sales and for your marketing efforts to be effective long term, you need to develop and then communicate your brand.  Six Strategies You Can Use to Define & Communicate Your Brand as a Creative Entrepreneur Determine your brand story (I highly recommend getting a copy of Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller Establish your “why” Choose your “brand topics” Establish a specific voice Make your brand visually consistent Serve according to your band You can find a more detailed version of this episode’s show notes at: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-develop-communicate-brand-creative-entrepreneur/  Mentioned Links & Resources Show Notes: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-develop-communicate-brand-creative-entrepreneur/  Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/7-ways-to-stand-out-as-a-photographer/ How to Create a Customer Avatar with DigitalMarketer: https://www.digitalmarketer.com/blog/create-customer-avatar-youtube/ Katelyn James Bridal Guide: https://katelynjames.com/blog/the-kj-bridal-guide-2-0-wedding-magazine-template/ In Focus Marketing Summit: https://www.infocusmarketingsummit.com/ Business Coaching for Photographers: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/business-coaching-photographers/ Join the Priority Pursuit Podcast Facebook Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/179106264013426 Receive $20 Off Your First Pair of Rothy’s: http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/rothys/ Save $50 on Your First Order from KISS Books of $100 or More: http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/kiss/ Follow Victoria on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/victorialrayburn/

002. Have you ever met someone briefly who told you far too much personal information far too fast? Well, considering this is only our second episode together, that might be exactly about what’s to happen. Because, today, I’m going to tell you all about how my husband, Zach, and I ended up in marriage counseling right before our third wedding anniversary largely as a result of my photography business.  I opened my photography business as a side hustle shortly after Zach and I got married. What I wanted to be a hobby that made a little money quickly became an all-consuming second job that added stress to our marriage.  For more than two years, I filled my weekends with weddings and shoots and my evenings and every spare moment I had outside of my day job with editing and doing everything else I needed to do to run my business. During this season, I worked until 2 am most nights; I missed time with friends and family because I had shoots or weddings; Zach got used to attending things without me; and the phrase, “I can’t. I have to edit,” came out of my mouth more than anything else.  A few months before our three-year wedding anniversary, Zach was fed up. And, looking back, I don’t blame him.  After an argument that lasted so long we had to sit on the kitchen floor because we just couldn’t stand any longer, we decided marriage counseling was necessary, and I’m so glad we did, because counseling saved our marriage.  Through counseling, I discovered that work and success are idols for me. Does this sound familiar? Because, as a creative entrepreneur, there’s a good chance you battle these idols too.  I want to encourage you to battle these idols and protect your relationships (with your spouse and/or others) by:  Watching for idol flare ups Setting boundaries within your business  Clearly communicating your goals with your spouse, significant other, and others affected by your business Praying (or mediating) about your idols and priorities  Whether you’re married or not (Your business still affects other relationships!), please check out this episode to learn from my mistakes and to protect your relationship.  Find a more detailed version of this episode’s show notes at https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-my-photography-business-almost-cost-me-my-marriage Mentioned Links & Resources Show Notes: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-my-photography-business-almost-cost-me-my-marriage Faith Biblical Counseling: https://www.faithlafayette.org/counseling  Join the “Priority Pursuit Podcast” Facebook Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/179106264013426 Get 50% Off Your First Order with Photographer’s Edit: http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/pe/  Get 50% Off Your First Six Months of Quickbooks Self-Employed: http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/quickbooks/  Follow Victoria on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/victorialrayburn/

001. Welcome to the first episode of “The Priority Pursuit Podcast”—a podcast dedicated to helping creative entrepreneurs define, maintain, and pursue both their personal and business priorities!  As a recovering workaholic, I’ve learned the hard way what loving your job too much can do to your personal life. While I don’t believe work-life balance exists, I do believe there’s power in determining your priorities—both in your personal life and in your business—and making choices and creating systems based around what’s most important to you and what’s going to lead to results. Relationships, effective marketing strategies, setting boundaries, delegating, creating an incredible client experience, and keeping your priorities at the core of everything you do are exactly what you, experts, and I will be discussing every week.  With this in mind, it only makes sense for the very first episode of “Priority Pursuit” to be about identifying your priorities and assessing how well you’re pursuing what’s most important to you both in your personal life and your business and getting all of this information down on paper. How to Determine & Assess Your Personal Priorities Make a list of the people & activities that are most important to you, & put them in order of most to least important.  Use your calendar to assess whether or not you’re making time for what’s most important in your life.  If you aren’t prioritizing your priorities, determine why.  Get specific about what needs to change in order to make your hypothetical priorities your real priorities.  How to Determine & Assess Your Business Priorities Determine how your paying clients are finding you to figure out what your top business priorities should be.  Make a list of all of your business tasks. Compare your lists & determine which tasks are needed for your priorities.  Stop putting tasks on your to-do list that aren’t moving the needle in your business.  Use your new-found time to help your business grow!
