The current version of the Los Angeles Lakers is on a bit of a hiatus right now because of the Clippers’ choke job yesterday, so with them not playing until Friday, host Harrison Faigen (@hmfaigen) decided to go back in time a bit and talk to New York Times bestselling author Jeff Pearlman (@jeffpearlman) about his new book: “Three-Ring Circus: Kobe, Shaq, Phil, and the Crazy Years of the Lakers Dynasty.” The book dives into all kinds of crazy detail about that aforementioned dynasty, as well as the chaotic and fun years leading up to it, and how it all fell apart. It also is one of the most clear-eyed and candid pictures of the dysfunctional, insane and successful Kobe and Shaq relationship ever reported out, and so I wanted to talk to Jeff about what he learned over the course of reporting it out, what he took away from their dynamic and a whole lot more. With the Houston Rockets losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night, the Los Angeles Lakers won’t know who they’re playing in the next round of the NBA playoffs until Wednesday night. So instead of previewing one opponent, our latest podcast has to dig in to two very different possibilities.  But before they did that, hosts Harrison Faigen and Anthony Irwin took a moment to laugh at the Milwaukee Bucks showing their flaws in Game 1 of their second-round matchup against the Miami Heat, and rant a bit about how ridiculous NBA awards voting can sometimes look after the playoffs begin. Should we start to value those accolades differently historically as a result? Then, after a short break, Anthony and Harrison discussed the Lakers’ two possible second-round opponents. They got into which one they see as a bigger threat to Los Angeles, what the relative strengths and weaknesses of the Rockets and Thunder are in a series against the Lakers, how the teams fared against each other over the course of this season, and why they both think that a bit too much is being made of the threat level of both opponents (in particular the Rockets).  Finally, Anthony got into his theory on the reason for this constant hyping of the Lakers’ opponents, and it actually makes quite a bit of sense. Especially when we just did this whole song and dance with the Portland “Best Eighth Seed Ever” Trail Blazers, and, well, we all saw how that one turned out. On Wednesday afternoon, the Milwaukee Bucks decision to not take the floor for their scheduled Game 5 meeting with the Orlando Magic kickstarted a movement that quickly picked up steam the rest of the day. Within hours, the rest of Wednesday's playoff games, including the Lakers-Blazers Game 5 contest, were canceled as players across the league united in a strike. By night's end, a meeting with the players and coaches inside the bubble led to LeBron James, the Lakers and the Clippers to voting to boycott the remainder of the playoffs. With the league's Board of Governor's set to meet at 11 a.m. on Thursday, the same time as a second meeting between the players, the season's future seems in serious doubt. Anthony and Jacob got together after everything played out on Wednesday to talk through how the day's events unfolded and how we got to this point. They also discussed what's at stake for the players, how the onus is now on the owners to take action and why Wednesday was the pinnacle of the player empowerment era. To kick things off, Anthony and Jas breakdown the Los Angeles Lakers 135-115 win over the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 4 to take a 3-1 lead in the series. The guys discuss LeBron James' masterful performance, and how he dominated right from the opening tip. Then, Anthony and Jas get into what the Lakers have done differently over the last three games since losing the opener. Following that, the guys talk about how Los Angeles overwhelmed Portland in the first quarter, and how Frank Vogel has made adjustments over the first four games. After the break, Anthony and Jas get into the other NBA playoff series, and how the L.A. Clippers look sluggish against the Dallas Mavericks, and what it could mean in a potential matchup against the Lakers. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Lakers once again convincingly beat the Trail Blazers on Saturday night to take a 2-1 series lead over Portland, and host Harrison Faigen (@hmfaigen) was joined by Keith Parish of Fastbreak Breakfast (@fastbreakbreak) to discuss the series so far, and how the Lakers are doing. Were the Blazers overrated? How much should we make of the Lakers' struggles? They got into all that -- as well as regrettable bets, the times Kobe has torn Keith's heart out, the Pelicans being frauds -- and a whole lot more on the latest episode of the Silver Screen and Roll podcast. A little less than 24 hours removed from the Los Angeles Lakers 100-93 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, the shock hasn’t worn off. As is the case with any playoff game, there were plenty of takeaways, most negative, from the defeat. Jacob and Anthony dive into the game and look to see where things went wrong for the Lakers aside from the obvious in their poor shooting. The team is due for a progression to the mean after a string of poor shooting performances in the bubble, but will that come before the team exits the playoffs? After missing open three-pointers as well as putbacks, do the Lakers need to change their offense or is it simply a matter of making the shots they’re taking? With JaVale McGee continuing to struggle, it also may be time to change the team’s starting lineup. Jacob and Anthony look at the possibilities with the rotation moving forward, ranging from starting lineup changes that include benching JaVale McGee to whether Dion Waiters should see more minutes. And with Rajon Rondo expected to return as soon as Game 2 in the series, where does he factor into the rotation? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Harrison and Christian are back for another episode of "Lakers, Explained," and they kicked off today's show by diving into Rajon Rondo's seemingly imminent return, and how the team can best utilize him (0-13:00). Then, following a short break, Harrison is joined by Devin Dismang (@dismayne), who edits JaVale McGee's incredible bubble vlogs (13:20-1:05:07). The two of them talked about the origins of the idea for McGee to start recording his teammates, how those videos come together while avoiding being a distraction and more. Finally, Christian and Harrison came back to discuss their final predictions for the Lakers in the playoffs, and their bold playoff bets (1:05:08-1:19:10). The Lakers are done with the regular season, and their final game against the Sacramento Kings was completely meaningless. So after briefly reacting to it, today's postgame show hosts Harrison Faigen and Jacob Rude jumped into an autopsy of the Lakers' play in the bubble, and what they feel like they learned from it. They got into the weird vibes around the team (and what might have been behind them), how motivated they think they actually were, if the Lakers need Rajon Rondo (maybe not for the reasons you think) and more. Then, they discussed the Lakers' possible eighth seed opponents, and why they think the Blazers are getting overhyped. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The NBA unexpectedly announced that there will be a Player of the Seeding Games, as well as first and second team All-Seeding Games, to recognize the players who have excelled in the bubble. The Lakers -- some of them, at least -- played and lost to the Houston Rockets Thursday, but the game itself was rendered almost irrelevant when LeBron James was ruled out. Instead, the major stories afterwards were the unexplained absence of JaVale McGee and the team's continued shooting woes. Sabreena and Anthony discuss if either of those situations warrants extended concern, as well as if the team's chemistry will ever reach it's pre-hiatus form, particularly without Avery Bradley and Lionel Hollins in the bubble. They conclude with a conversation on the Rockets themselves, why they are so very annoying, and what the Lakers would have to do to contain them in a potential playoff series.
