Today you are going to hear an incredibly powerful story. I’m with Pat and Tammy McLeod who have written the book Hit Hard, One Family’s Journey of Letting Go of What Was and Learning To Live Well With What Is. And I could not put it down.In the fall of 2008 Pat and Tammy’s son Zach collapsed on a high school football field; and sustained a severe brain injury. And they were faced with the devastating reality that things would never be the same for their beloved son. I really wanted to have them on the show because each one of us has experienced grief and losses in our lives and yet I’ve found that we often don’t know how to deal with our grief, pain, and losses - it can be a complex and lonely journey - one that we want to avoid at all costs. In this interview, you will hear Tammy and Pat’s journey of how they have walked and continue to walk through ambiguous loss.  I was so drawn to both of them - their faith and honesty. I felt like I was on sacred ground and I believe you will feel the same too when you hear what they have to share.Where to find and connect with Tammy and Pat McLeod:Their book: Hit Hard, One Family’s Journey of Letting Go of What Was and Learning To Live Well With What IsTheir website: https://patandtammymcleod.com/Their COVID Conversations: https://patandtammymcleod.com/covid-19-conversations/.......Check out our Moms of Tweens and Teens website HERESign up for our Moms of Tweens and Teens newsletter HERE. Find more encouragement, wisdom, and resources: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/momsoftweensandteens/ Join our Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Momsoftweensandteens Find awesome resources on MOTTs University: https://www.mottsuniversity.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/momsoftweensandteens/

How many of us are dissatisfied with our bodies?I grew up drinking Tab and wishing I looked like Farrah Fawcett, maybe you wished you looked like Brooke Shields or Jennifer Anniston, or Madonna.  If we thought it was tough to accept and love our bodies and ourselves back then imagine what it must be like for our girls today. And it can be an on-going challenge to appreciate our bodies and to support our daughters to do the same.Today, I’m talking with world-leading body image expert and psychology professor Dr. Charlotte Markey about helping our girls to understand, accept, and appreciate their bodies and her latest book, The Body Image Book for girls, Love Yourself and Grow Up Fearless. We talk about the diet culture, some of the things that we do or say that are unhelpful and can even be damaging to our girls and how can we set a good example with their own eating and exercise habits and self-talk.Where to find Dr. Charlotte Markey and to buy her book:The Body Image Book For GirlsDr. Markey's WebsiteSmart People Don't DietFacebookInstagram*****Check out our Moms of Tweens and Teens website HERESign up for our Moms of Tweens and Teens newsletter HERE. Find more encouragement, wisdom, and resources: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/momsoftweensandteens/ Join our Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Momsoftweensandteens Find awesome resources on MOTTs University: https://www.mottsuniversity.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/momsoftweensandteens/

As parents, it’s been a year of difficult conversations with our children about the virus, and political upheaval, and rioting. And this past week we’ve watched as protestors in Washington D.C. stormed the Capitol on Wednesday. Our tweens and teens are seeing all of this. It's upsetting. What do we say? How do we navigate all of this and answer their questions if they’re even asking and if they’re not and they’re quiet how do we talk about this mess when we’re having a hard time processing it? In this episode, I'm not going to talk about anything political. I want to support you to use this tragic event as an opportunity to check in with them and find out what they're hearing and how they're feeling and to discuss how to deal with disagreements and conflict in healthy ways, how to take what is happening in our world and do good, and other important conversations that we need to be having with our kids as we wrestle through the chaos, uncertainty, and confusion around us.Let's jump in!*****Check out our Moms of Tweens and Teens website HERESign up for our Moms of Tweens and Teens newsletter HERE Find more encouragement, wisdom, and resources: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/momsoftweensandteens/ Join our Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Momsoftweensandteens Find awesome resources on MOTTs University: https://www.mottsuniversity.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/momsoftweensandteens/ Sheryl also has an Inner Circle weekly Parenting Program with a community of like-minded moms, personal coaching, and tons of resources to equip and support you to love well, navigate the challenges and meet your tween and teen’s unique needs during these pivotal years.  Get on the waitlist to get all the details and to be the first to know when it opens!  https://momsoftweensandteens.lpages.co/waiting-list-for-membership/

If you’re a mom of a boy - you are well aware that there is no manual that can possibly prepare you for the unique joys and challenges of raising a son. And when they hit the tween and teen years there are a lot of changes - you may be finding your once sweet, affectionate son is beginning to pull away, they may talk less and not include you in how they’re doing. Or they may resist your advice. You may be finding it difficult to know how to connect with them and support them when they’re struggling. These are all topics that Kara Lewis and I discuss in this interview.Kara has had a lot of experience as the lucky mom of four boys. Kara founded TheJoysofBoys.com in 2012 as a way to celebrate the little men in her life and has now grown into a resource that connects parents of boys with family-focused activities, parenting advice, and support to help them to connect and communicate with their sons to bring out the best in them.  Kara has published two journals, A Mother and Her Son: A Shared Journal Adventure and A Father and His Son: A Shared Journal Adventure.  These journals help parents connect with their sons in a fun way.Mentioned in this episode:Kara's FREE GUIDE: Get your son to listen.
