Today on the podcast I have the pleasure of talking to Bernard Sia and Stephen Chian. For the past two years, I've been fortunate enough to be a part of the End Polio Now Ride. It's a charity ride to raise awareness and funds to End Polio Now.   Bernard Sia was in charge of the actual activity and putting it together.   Stephen Chian was on the fund raising side and where the aid goes.   Enjoy the podcast.      Where can you find them? http://rotarycebu.org/ https://www.facebook.com/rotarycebu           This podcast is sponsored by Bix Recovery Supplement. I’ve been using Bix Recovery Supplement as one of the key hydration mixes after a bicycle ride. Monica Villarica began dancing at the age of 2 under the direction of her grandmother, Fe Sala Villarica. In 2004, she joined her first CCP Summer Dance Workshop in Manila on partial scholarship. Along with intensive training in Classical Ballet, she was also exposed to Modern Dance. This experience opened her eyes to the world of professional dance and inspired her to continue spending her summers with CCP Dance School on full scholarship until 2006.   Since then she has had plenty of experience in dance, notably a scholarship in CCP Dance School, an apprenticeship in Ballet Philippines, and studied in The Ailey School in New York,   And of course, she is my sister.   In this episode, we talked about choosing dance as a career, life as a dancer, auditioning as a dancer, starting online dance classes, plans changing because of the pandemic, and lots of brother sister banter.   Enjoy!     SHOWNOTES Miki Villarica Fe Sala Villarica Noordin Jumalon Nicholas Pacaña Rhea Dumdum Bautista (Ate Iya) Sheila Lendio-Manlunas Rhosam Prudenciado Jr. MDF Productions Peter Attia podcast with Beth Lewis Myles Delfin (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) The Bike Scouts Project   Where can you find Monica? https://www.instagram.com/vidacebu/ https://www.facebook.com/vidacebu https://www.instagram.com/monvsushi/       This podcast is sponsored by Bix Recovery Supplement. The pandemic has forced many to rethink their commuting habits, and as a result we've seen a surge of bicycle users all over Cebu. But unfortunately, not all the cities have catered to this new wave of transportation. The streets in Cebu is not what you would call "bike friendly".   I was interested to talk to Daryl because of the work they have been doing to encourage people to bike as a commute, but more importantly, they've been reaching out and talking to people in government and organizations to encourage them to implement bike infrastructure projects.   Daryl Carabio is an architect/urban planner connected with Cebu Holdings Inc./Ayalaland, an advocate for better cities through his work with the Baktas Tindak Society +.   In this episode we talked about why cycling as a commute in Cebu, the implementation of bike lanes in Cebu, what city planning could look like, sustainable development, and how to be a better city.   Enjoy!   SHOWNOTES Imaginary Cycling Network in Cebu City Cebu Leads Foundation Councilor Garganera Pasig Bike Lanes Tindak Kahayag Project   Where can you find Darly? https://www.facebook.com/BaktasTindakPlus   This podcast is sponsored by Bix Recovery Supplement. There's a lot of bad that came with this pandemic, but that doesn't mean there aren't good side effects. One of those side effects is people taking their health more seriously. Remember gigs and live events? I can only imagine what it must be like once we can have regular gigs again, but it's important to move forward and do it right. Like many things the pandemic has done, it has given people an opportunity to start again.   I interviewed Joey Seno, one of the people integral in the success of the Mr. Griddle gigs that started in 2019. It was a refreshing step in the right direction. I can only attest to joining a few of the gigs, but from what little I saw, it was special. The community propping each other up, the organizers genuinely in it for the music, and the music was some of the best I've heard in a local gig.   In this episode, we talked about bikes (of course I insert a bike discussion in there), tools new musicians should look into, the anatomy of the Mr. Griddle gigs, and this generation's music.   Enjoy the episode!           SHOWNOTES Bong Go Rappler article J Martino Olvido (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Baktas Tindak Society Xiaomi Qi Cycle Gravel Bike Cebu facebook group Mark Acantilado Traction Roloo Surly Midnight Special Luxxx Russell Manaloto (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Hannah Martinez-Florendo (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Lorenz Florendo Sminak Kitchen - food panda grab Sminak - instagram     Where can you find Joey? https://www.instagram.com/joeyrseno/   Music in the podcast Piano March by Audionautix Support the show: (1) Become a Patreon subscriber – https://www.patreon.com/zerothreetwo (2) Share this episode on social media. As the days go by, it seems like COVID 19 is hitting closer and closer to home. More and more people we know are being infected, and worse yet, some not making it. I think it might be wise to prepare for a future where we all get the virus, like chicken pox or the measles. I hope it doesn't happen, but in case I do get it, I would like to be prepared.   My friend, Gino Reyes, recently contracted the COVID 19. I wanted to talk to him and get a firsthand account of his experience. Like I said, it pays to be prepared. You never know what can happen, but if it does happen to you, best to know what to do and what to expect.   I hope you find this episode helpful.     SHOWNOTES John Caing (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Contagion Julia Garcia Reyes Steph Senires Villarica   Where can you find Gino? https://www.facebook.com/gino.p.reyes   Music in the podcast Piano March by Audionautix Support the show: (1) Become a Patreon subscriber – https://www.patreon.com/zerothreetwo (2) Share this episode on social media. Continuing with the theme of recent podcast episodes, we discuss the changes that we are all experiencing, but more importantly, we are looking at people who can discuss new perspectives and approaches to thriving in whatever it is they are doing.   I decided to have a conversation with Fleire Castro. With her work as a digital marketing consultant and CEO of Third Team Media - a boutique social media and digital agency, she was bound to have insight with how small businesses are approaching this pandemic. As you know, there is much to discuss, with the business landscape changing, new strategies are being implemented everyday.   In this episode, we talked about internet marketing, the social media challenge when it comes to business, surviving the pandemic, having fun, and homeschooling.   Enjoy the episode!         SHOWNOTES Janet Toral Ecommerce Entrepreneurs Summit Cebu Meyan Lim-Young (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Slack Content dash Remote Jason Fried Calvert Education   Where can you find Fleire? https://www.facebook.com/fleire.castro http://fleirecastro.com/ https://thirdteam.org/ Bit.ly/ecomsummitcebu   Music in the podcast Piano March by Audionautix Support the show: (1) Become a Patreon subscriber – https://www.patreon.com/zerothreetwo (2) Share this episode on social media. This interview happened before the lockdown, but is more relevant than ever. Recent news has shown that a sound body is important to keeping the Corona Virus at bay. How best to do that?   Although we didn't talk specifically about the virus, this conversation with Justinne Lou Go, a licensed nutritionist-dietitian, can change your life. Learn about all things food and how to decide what to put into your body. I'll be honest, like many of my interviews, I used it as an opportunity to get a consultation with an expert.   So I had questions about cholesterol, diet, what are the right foods to eat, why eat them, and most importantly how to make it easy for a caveman like me to follow.   Enjoy the podcast!     SHOWNOTES Jamie Oliver The Game Changers Chip Lopez (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Pinggang Pinoy Food plate model   Where can you find Justinne Lou Go? https://www.facebook.com/justinnego https://www.instagram.com/babeforfood/   Music in the podcast Piano March by Audionautix Support the show: (1) Become a Patreon subscriber – https://www.patreon.com/zerothreetwo (2) Share this episode on social media. The pandemic is still here and it looks like we'll be doing all sorts of adjusting to it. But one thing I was curious about was what it was like inside a hospital these days. The hospital is the last place I want to end up, especially now.   So I thought it would be a good idea to talk to John Caing, a registered nurse and guitarist of Bombo Pluto Ova. Sidenote, I also wanted to use this conversation as an opportunity to tell him how much their live performances inspired our band, Rescue a Hero. But of course, we talked a lot about the changes hospitals have done because of the pandemic and what it was like being a nurse today.   In this episode, we talked about the Bombo Pluto Ova sound, the different processes of the hospitals, the mood of the health care workers, and what it is like being a nurse today.   Enjoy the episode!               SHOWNOTES Bombo Pluto Ova Mark Cortes (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Sonic Youth Fugazi Miles Davis Rescue a Hero (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Shak Mancao (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Foc Fashion Bobbi Olvido (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Erik Tuban (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode)   Where can you find John? https://www.instagram.com/blushingjohnny/   Music in the podcast Piano March by Audionautix Support the show: (1) Become a Patreon subscriber – https://www.patreon.com/zerothreetwo (2) Share this episode on social media. One of the advantages of doing interviews over the internet is that you can talk to people from the other side of the globe. When I got an opportunity to talk to a Filipina actress in New York, I jumped at the chance. I wanted to know what it was like in New York (one of the hardest hit places in the world) during the pandemic, how they approached it? And how different it was from here?   This is an interview with Marie Dinolan, a New York-based actor performing in theater, television & film, voice-over, commercial and print. She moved from the Philippines to New York City in 2014 for conservatory training in both classical and contemporary roles at the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts - home to an extensive history and impressive alumni list consisting of Anne Hathaway, Paul Rudd, Grace Kelly, Robert Redford, Kim Catrall and Danny Devito.   In the podcast, we talked about life as an actor in New York, the general mood of the people up there, the differences with how New York and Cebu are treating the pandemic, and what it is like living in New York today.   Enjoy the podcast.         SHOWNOTES Kristiane Lim (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Monica Villarica Alvin Ailey RCTV American Academy of Dramatic Arts Meyan Lim Young (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Situationships Pia Mercado   Where can you find Marie? https://www.instagram.com/mariedinolan/ https://www.facebook.com/marie.dinolan https://twitter.com/DinolanMarie   Music in the podcast Piano March by Audionautix Support the show: (1) Become a Patreon subscriber – https://www.patreon.com/zerothreetwo (2) Share this episode on social media. It's clear that one of the industries that will need to evolve immediately is food. So much about how we enjoy this industry falls directly against the social distancing mandate. Restaurants/cafes/bars/etc. tend to encourage people to crowd in small spaces. What can businesses in the food industry do to evolve in this new normal?   I talked to Meyan Lim Young, Creator and Managing Director of Bubble Tea Station and Cebu Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneur of The Year 2019. Considering the width of her business, she gave the many challenges of the new normal some thought. Her perspective proved valuable and helped set expectations while we don't have treatment or a vaccine yet for the virus.   In this episode, we talked about what to consider in the new normal, what to keep in mind for delivery services, financially surviving the pandemic, and milk tea vs the yogurt craze.   Enjoy the podcast.       SHOWNOTES Mozart Reina Doomsday Scenarios episode Italian Food Specialists   Where can people get Bubbletea  Station? One possible future brought about by this pandemic is a future of unemployment. It's a possible reality that no one wants to hear, but it's a very real thing for some people at this very moment. As a society, we should start thinking about the different measures to make sure these people have a semblance of normalcy. Part of that normalcy is making sure they eat.   Fortunately, I found the opportunity to talk to the face of The Rice Movement, Albert Padin, also the co-founder & CTO of Symph. The Rice Movement started as an initiative to help Filipinos survive as they stay home during lockdown, but it became clear that this need will continue well after lockdown. When industries will be forced to change, that change has many consequences.   In this episode, we talked about the reasons for unemployment, the need to feed people, the need to rethink the structure of our system, and how that restructuring can hopefully give people more jobs.         SHOWNOTES Streamyard Mozart Reina and Mark Cortes (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Symph Jude Gitamondoc (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Dasig Bisaya   Where can you find The Rice Movement? https://www.facebook.com/thericemovementph https://www.thericemovement.com/   Music in the podcast Piano March by Audionautix Support the show: (1) Become a Patreon subscriber – https://www.patreon.com/zerothreetwo (2) Share this episode on social media.

Talking about the worst possible scenarios is not being negative. It's about being prepared for the worst, doing what you need to do to come out of it the best you can, knowing that you've done that work, and setting it aside to resume the rest of your life without having to worry.   Considering the little problem that the world is experiencing right now, I think it's only right to have an idea of the many issues that could possibly bubble up because of this pandemic. With that in mind, I rang up two of my very smart friends, Mozart Reina (my cousin actually) and Mark Cortes. Then we just riffed on what is the likely/unlikely things that could happen because of COVID-19.   In this episode, we talked about where we are now, the problem of feeding people, the state of banks, the medias role in all this, and the possibility of Universal Basic Income.   Enjoy the episode!   SHOWNOTES Italian Food Specialists Nassim Taleb Andrew Yang Joe Rogan   Where to find the guys? https://www.instagram.com/mozartreina/ https://www.instagram.com/mellow_machine/   Music in the podcast Piano March by Audionautix Support the show: (1) Become a Patreon subscriber – https://www.patreon.com/zerothreetwo (2) Share this episode on social media.

The new normal is a real thing. There are going to be many things that we will have to rethink once total lockdown is over and while we wait for the vaccine. It's not going to be the same for a lot of people.   This is what I wanted to address when I talked to Doctor Claire and Pierre Mella. How would it affect the practice of the many doctors in Cebu? How do we adapt to the situation? Fortunately, I also had John Jay Yuvallos and Rich Arnold Tuadles on the call. They are the folks who created CloudMD and CloudPx. Our future is more uncertain than ever. No one has an idea of what the next year is going to look like. How can we expect to parent them in the next few months? I thought it would be a good idea to call one of my good friends, Jason Almendras, he was the first of my friends to have kids, so I was wondering what he has been up to, and how he has approached the "new normal".   In this episode, we talked about parenting in quarantine, homeschooling for the kids, what the future of school might look like, and a few funny stories about our chidren.   Enjoy the episode.         SHOWNOTES edmodo.com Bill Gates Stephanie Villarica Bill Simmons Jimmy Kimmel Life in Jars The Slow Mo Guys Ants Canada Khan Academy Casey Neistat Blue Cuevas   Where can you find Jason? https://www.instagram.com/jasonalmendras/   Support the show: (1) Become a Patreon subscriber – https://www.patreon.com/zerothreetwo (2) Share this episode on social media. These are uncertain times. We have to hold on for the long run. Best case scenario is that the Coronavirus quarantine will be lifted in a few weeks (although unlikely), but after quarantine, we will experience a culture of physical distancing. Who knows how long that will last? A vaccine is at least a year away so we will be living with this virus for a while. What kind of future does that look like? What to do?   This is something I wanted to talk about with my mastermind group, a peer group meeting where we discuss the progress, goals, learnings, etc. for our personal lives, careers, or businesses. Whenever we look at someone successful, there's a temptation to think, "I could do that." Or to say, "He just got lucky." Or to wonder why seemingly successful people fall into the usual traps that you would never fall into.   This was a surprising topic with my conversations with Job Penalosa aka Cookie$. Most people know him as a rapper with huge music hits - Bogo, Snatcher Rap, Beplop and countless others. He found plenty of success in his music career, but that success didn't come with a price. When he came back to Cebu and his music career shot up, he succumbed to the seven deadly sins. This hampered his ability to make music and to take full advantage of his opportunities. What did he do to regain focus?   In this episode we talked about how to handle fame, how music has a real impact, his work ethic, his origin story, and how he approaches writing music.   Enjoy the episode.             SHOWNOTES Atlanta Virus Break Stuff - Limp Bizkit Shuffled Drop Decay The Magic of Thinking Big Alex Lim (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) No Pets Allowed Tony Fonzy (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Trestan Pasya Escape Artist Queso 9K Records Soulthrll - Tilaw Ra ft. There are an infinite number of aspects to deal with when running a small business, proof that it is an art in itself. One of the most important aspects is dealing with people. Dealing with customers is one thing, but what about the people who work with you. How do you motivate them to do their best everyday? How do you have them share the same passion? How do you share your why with them?   This was my main takeaway when talking to Chime Bell Osabel, one of the partners of Diet in a Box - a meal subscription box that caters to about 500 customers daily. They've managed to do that because the people in the company share the same purpose. If you can get people in your company to buy into what you are doing or what you want to achieve, then managing becomes so much easier.   In this episode, we talked about the origins of Diet in a Box, on making mistakes, on instilling purpose to the people who work with you, and growing because of purpose.   Enjoy the episode!   SHOWNOTES Room Eleven Ahmed Durano Frank Borces Borj Go Diet in a Box Chef Lalamove   Where can you find Chime? https://www.facebook.com/dietinaboxcebu/ https://www.facebook.com/mindsonwheels/   This podcast is brought to you by Destination Specialists Cebu. They are one of the longest standing travel agencies in Cebu. There are a ton of people who love music. Just go to any gig and you can find them there. But I haven't met many people who love watching shows like Jerros "Jai" Dolino.   Most people know Jai as an amazing drummer. Rightfully so. He's played for countless bands. I'm most familiar with the rock stuff like Urbandub, Sheila and the Insects, Read Between the Lions, and countless other bands. But what people don't realize is that Jai really loves going to gigs. Not to play, he loves watching gigs.   In this conversation, we talked about favorite moments of going to a gig, playing in a gig, having a life in music, the different music scenes, and listening habits today.   Enjoy the episode!         SHOWNOTES Life is a Video Game—Here are the Cheat Codes Joaquin Quino McWhinney (Big Mountain) Aaron Spears Caught Up Tony Royster Junx Muana (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Carlo Rodriguez (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Mark Cortes (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Irie Sunday Sister Nancy - Bam Bam Binky Lampano Eraserheads Rivermaya 19East Wowee Posadas Side A Urbandub Up Dharma Down Black Cows Steely Dan Pato Banton UB40 Sting Sugarfree Sheila and the Insects Franco King Spade Vandals on the Wall Gabby Alipe Bobby Olvido (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Karl Lucente (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Faspitch Megumi Acorda Powerspoonz Junior Kilat Budoy Slapshock Room Eleven Cattski (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Erwin Batucan     Where can you find Jai? https://www.facebook.com/jaidolino https://www.instagram.com/jaidolino/ https://twitter.com/jaidolino/   This podcast is brought to you by Destination Specialists Cebu. They are one of the longest standing travel agencies in Cebu. Prior to this interview, I did not have a sense of abstract art. I couldn't grasp the idea. As per all my podcast interviews, I was looking for a way to learn more about it.   When I first heard about Sio Montera, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to talk about abstract art. In this episode, it becomes clear quickly that I don't understand that kind of art. I wanted to learn more about it, I wanted to find a way to gain an appreciation for it. But after talking to Sio, I learned so much more than just the mere definition or history of abstract art. I learned about the questions artists need to ask themselves in order to have a long term career.   In this episode, we talked about getting a sense of flow while doing art, an understanding of abstract art, comparing art students today and yesterday, what top artists from Taiwan and the Philippines do, and a lot more.   Enjoy the episode.   SHOWNOTES Cebu Music Stories Forgetful Bob Dominic Dosdos National Commission for the Culture and the Arts Mariano "Mar" Vidal Qube Gallery Jackson Pollock Shak Mancao (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Finding the Calm in the Chaos   Where can you find Sio? https://www.siomontera.com/ https://www.instagram.com/siomontera/ https://www.facebook.com/siomontera/ College of Communication Art and Design UP Cebu Lahug   This podcast is brought to you by Destination Specialists Cebu. They are one of the longest standing travel agencies in Cebu. Wellness.   That's a word that is thrown around a lot, but I really wanted to get to know what that really meant. Is it self care? Is it finding healthy habits? Is it  finding better ways to think? Is it finding practices that cultivate the mind, body, and soul?   I've always wanted to have a conversation about this. So when I saw that Kymberly Maitland-Smith opened Soul Sierra, a wellness and holistic hub, I knew she was the person to talk to. There have been many times that I've put too much focus on the day to day stresses of life, I've forgotten about what makes life worth living. How do we open ourselves to those experiences?   In this episode, we talked about the difference between mind, body, and soul, meditation, cacao ceremonies, veganism, vulnerability and her personal experience in discovering the world of wellness.   Enjoy this episode!   SHOWNOTES Happy Bday Steph Jon Ahmed Durano Kahlil Corazo Flowstate Food Inc. It's surprising how you can find parallels from two things that on the surface share nothing in common. But you never know what you can learn from other disciplines. This was never more true in this conversation.   This interview was surprising in many ways. First of all, I've never met Phil Bawasanta aka Philtomato, a talented and hard working artist. Phil drew parallels where I was not expecting it. We even talked a little about sports. But as expected, he was delightful.  In the episode, we talk about how to become a better artist, gestural art, when validation from others is useful, finding flow, and much more. When I was a kid, I used to play a lot of video games. In fact, it was a problem, I couldn't focus on other things. It felt like the best way to waste time. It was so much fun, but at the back of my mind, I wasn't sure I was getting anything out of it.   Fast forward to today, video games is a real industry. There was even an Esports category in the recently concluded Sea Games. I was curious about this new industry so I talked to the Starcraft II Sea Games Manager, Jess Joaustine “Jack D Reaper” Tamboboy. He's been participating in this sport for years, as a gamer and as an organizer. So when the opportunity to take part as a manager for Team Sibol, it was a no brainer.   We talked about how he got that role, how gaming is today, and how to get those opportunities in Esports.   Enjoy the episode!     SHOWNOTES Junx Muana (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Mark Cortes (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Rescue a Hero (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Paolo dela Victoria Room Eleven Gama Rae (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Tier One Entertainment Caviar EnDerr Team Sibol Forgetful Bob Philippine Esports Organization Justin NuksPH Mineski Shak Mancao (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Dominic Dosdos Ethan Ronoel Salazar Tier One Entertainment Facebook     Where can you find him? https://www.facebook.com/ustingph https://twitter.com/_jackdr https://www.instagram.com/_jackdr/   This episode is brought to you by Qube Gallery — a progressive art space in Cebu, Philippines providing network and exhibit opportunities for contemporary artists with whom they work closely with and promote beyond the local reach. The Cebu Culture is one of the things I hold dear. It's not perfect, but there are so many individuals making our culture a better place. Of course, when we speak of culture, it's an umbrella term that speaks of many things.   As far as I'm concerned, Sir Junx Muana is one of the OG's in Cebu's cultural landscape. He's had a very important hand in Cebu's music scene. Backyard Studios made a name for itself by recording prominent bands and musicians like Urbandub, Franco, Max Surban, and many many more. He's also had a huge impact on the Cebu outdoor adventure scene. Everyone who has spent time in Cebu knows the brand Habagat - the original Cebu outdoor brand that has made it's mark all throughout the years.   Not many people can say they've had a hand in shaping two distinct aspects of Cebu life. So I was delighted to have Efren "Sir Junx" Muana in the podcast.   Enjoy the episode.       SHOWNOTES Habagat Sheila and the Insects Slapshock Max Surban Franco Mark Cortes (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Sandy Kiamko Guitarmaking: Tradition and Technology Adolfo Timuat Joey Ayala     Where can you find Sir Junx? https://www.facebook.com/haranaguitars/ https://www.facebook.com/BackyardProjectstudiosandcafe/     This episode is brought to you by Qube Gallery — a progressive art space in Cebu, Philippines providing network and exhibit opportunities for contemporary artists with whom they work closely with and promote beyond the local reach. This month, Qube Gallery is pleased to present new works by impressionist artist Jose Mari Picornell. This is Picornell’s fourth one-man show since the dawn of his career in the 1960s. Jose Mari has succeeded in making his mark in the Philippine art scene without any formal training. However, he was fortunate to have been mentored by Architect Pio Bonilla as an adolescent. He was already dabbling with watercolors when the architect, who considered Picornell a natural-born artist, introduced him to painting with oil. This then became his primary medium to this day. Like other impressionists, Picornell has developed his own personal manner of depicting the world around him through his choice of colors and the energy he exerts in making his strokes fluid and bold. He practices direct painting or the alla prima method and applies oil colors directly from the tube, without mixing them. Picornell is known to create visually stimulating bodies of work that fuses old Cebu, Philippines with the present. This exhibition features 14 artworks by Picornell of old colonial houses, street corners, downtown scenes and different snippets of city life in Cebu. It aims to present the viewers with how much has changed over the years and what has remained the same. You might be tired of reading this, but it's worth mentioning again and again, the main purpose of the podcast is to learn from other people. Especially those who have been in the creative trenches. That's why I've continued to reach out with the intention to learn something.   During my interview with Myka Arnado, it became clear that she thought a lot about her work. She's a graphic designer who has had the good fortune of working with notable clients. But was it really good fortune? Or was it a matter of figuring out ways to get her work and her name out there? Or was it about focusing on the craft of graphic design and becoming better? Likely a mixture of all these factors?   Let's see.   Enjoy the podcast!             SHOWNOTES Mark Cortes (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Carla Adlawan (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Music Makers Hack Lab Tropical Futures Forum (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Royal Club Shanghai Cebu Design Week Exhibition Siamese Rat Mark Deutsch (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Dan Matutina Create Cebu Aspace Crossroads Gabii sa Kabilin Kidlat (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Daot Lean Reboja (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Ivan Zaldariagga Golda King Ubec Crew ffffound     Where can you find Myka? https://www.instagram.com/cmyka.type/ https://www.instagram.com/cmyka.glitch/     This episode is brought to you by Qube Gallery — a progressive art space in Cebu, Philippines providing network and exhibit opportunities for contemporary artists with whom they work closely with and promote beyond the local reach.   This month, Qube Gallery is pleased to present new works by impressionist artist Jose Mari Picornell. When I first started the podcast, it was an excellent avenue to help listeners learn from other people. Most of the interviews in the beginning were about trying to extract knowledge from guests, but later on, I realized that the podcast was a perfect way to share a piece of our history.   I approached my interview with Ceasar Nimor with the hope of learning something new about our culture. He was one of the original dancers of Sinulog, and on top of that, has dedicated much of his life to the study of Philippine folk dance. This allowed a unique perspective on the festival which we all know and love, Sinulog. I've always wondered how Sinulog started, what was the inspiration for it, and how our ancient traditions somehow melded into Filipino Catholicism.   In this episode, we talked about the origins of Sinulog, the stories of what the dance means, how our ancient traditions continue to show today, and how our culture is important.   Enjoy the episode!             SHOWNOTES Game Changers Francisca Karias Aquino Ramon Obusan Amiel Cortz Cortes (Zerothreetwo Conversations episode) Casa Gorordo Melquiades “Myche” Gonzales Jr. David Odilao Tomas Osmena Yap Sandiego Ancestral house     Where can you find Ceasar? https://www.facebook.com/amirhassan.nimor https://www.facebook.com/groups/343922946344112/     This episode is brought to you by Qube Gallery — a progressive art space in Cebu, Philippines providing network and exhibit opportunities for contemporary artists with whom they work closely with and promote beyond the local reach.   There are 3 events happening simultaneously at Qube this coming Friday, January 17th at 6PM   First is the artist reception for “Vesindad” by Jose Mari Picornell at the 2nd floor conference area of Qube Gallery. Spanish-Cebuano impressionist artist Picornell takes us on a trip down memory lane through his artworks of old houses and street corners found in Cebu. "We artists see things that other people may not see, such as the broken windows of an old house which tells us about time passing," muses Picornell. Next, the opening of “Ultimatum” by Leopoldo Aguilar at the high space of Qube. Ultimatum is Aguilar’s fusion of styles from his early works to his most recent experimentation of motifs. Fearlessly engaging and evocative lines are aesthetically executed through colors and forms, extemporaneously juxtaposed in canvasses.   Qube Gallery will also be launching the first iteration of a special program called The Directors Pick, which features a carefully selected corps de oeuvre from the studios of contemporary Filipino artists. The Directors Pick, conceptualized by Qube's Artistic Director and artist Riel Hilario is a special catalogue of artworks that is compiled and launched every quarter from 2020 to 2021. Selection of artworks are based on the merit of their maker's prestige and maturity in the Philippine Art Scene, which makes the collection worthy of a connoisseur's regard. The accompanying catalogue not only describes each work, but places the art and its creator in the context of art history and culture.   Prologue, the first catalogue and showcase for the Directors Pick will be on view from January 17th at Qube Gallery coinciding with the celebrations of Sinulog Festival.   To rsvp to any of these events, contact Pia at 0918 807 4175     Three ways to support the show: Become a Patreon subscriber, click here.
