Talking with Carinne was like talking to a kindred spirit in the world of women’s health. She always knew that she wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps, as both an entrepreneur and an advocate for women’s health. After graduating university, she joined forces with her mother to develop the DivaCup, a modern redesign of a concept from the 1930’s. They started Diva on a shoestring budget from their kitchen table. Challenging a male-dominated industry, their product was often rejected as an unwanted threat to disposables. Nineteen years later, DivaCup has taken menstrual cups mainstream and disrupted the industry. The DivaCup is now sold in over 40 countries. Internationally, Diva has sold over 6.5million DivaCups to date. Carinne is a highly sought-after speaker and panelist, joining conversations all around the world on the state and future of the menstrual care industry. She has won multiple awards for her entrepreneurship and innovation, including EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year, RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards Woman of Influence of 2019, and was named Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.Our conversation took us from: How she became an entrepreneur in the period cup businessWhat were some of her struggles in being a female founderWhat was it like working with her mother as her partnerWhat was it like to carve out a new product in the women’s wellness spaceHow she got involved in the menstrual equity movementBeing a mamma and an entrepreneur what does her idea of balance look likeHer inspiration for other busy working moms and women in not only being healthy for themselves but also for their childrenAnd lastly her personal health why and her personal wellness routineFollow her on these social Handles: Instagram: @carinnedivacup Twitter: @CarinneChambers LinkedIn: Carinne Chambers-SainiSend me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? Breast health is an essential part of a woman’s well-being. Your breasts go through many changes throughout your life, from puberty to pregnancy, to the perimenopause and post-menopausal stages. Many of these changes are related to hormones and their varying levels, but some changes may not be normal and can be a cause of concern. Millions of women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. In 2021, an estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 49,290 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer according to the American Cancer Society. That means 1:8 women will be diagnosed. Now let’s look at it worldwide: In 2020, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 685,000 deaths globally. As of the end of 2020, there were 7.8 million women alive who were diagnosed with breast cancer in the past 5 years, making it the world's most prevalent cancer. In the United States alone, breast cancer has already surpassed lung cancer as being the most diagnosed type of cancer.Experts alike emphatically state that the most important factor affecting a successful outcome in treating breast cancer is early detection.Breast Self Exams also known as (BSE) can be one of those early detection measures. So, today’s episode is all about giving you the information you need to know to be your #1 self-care advocate when it comes to your breast health.Send me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? In 2013, Cassandra and her hubby Andrew eloped and used the money they’d been saving up for a wedding to start building their dream business: bringing amazing tasting, top-quality juices to their small community. She never imagined how large their community could grow! She’s always been passionate about eating with an emphasis on nutrition and wellness, and she loves inspiring people to lead a healthier, more invigorating life. She believes that cold-pressed juice is only as good as its ingredients. That’s why being locally-sourced is their top priority. She has a personal relationship with all their farmers and an understanding of how the produce is planted, grown, and harvested. It’s her passion and respect for real food that helps us create the highest quality, best-tasting product.Unlike other juice companies, they never use concentrates or water down the juices. There’s no added sugar, artificial sweeteners, chemicals, or unhealthy preservatives. What also warms my heart is that she also cares about her community and our planet. That’s why they donate a portion of all sales toward causes that help make the world a better, greener place. They also plant a tree for every order they sell to help offset our carbon emissions. In today’s show you’ll hear how it all  began for Cassandra. From her childhood experience of watching her mom cook that led to her passion for cooking healthy, to starting a health related company, the challenges of the early days  being a female founder, the importance of juicing, starting a family, her idea of work life balance and her self-care routine. We packed in a lot in this episode and it was a true blessing to have her on the show. She also gave all the WWHLP listeners a coupon code to go get some juices. Your first introduction to journaling may have been the countless hours you spent pining away in your diary during those awkward middle school days. However, over the years, journaling has evolved and changed into much more than a simple diary – it’s become a tool to help you organize your life, prioritize, and set goals, reflect on and remember the past as well as envision the future of your dreams. No matter what your personality or creative style looks like, you can make journaling work for you – it’s not a one size fits all kind of habit. With all the different styles and elements of journaling, it would seem easy to grab a pen, jump in and start writing. However, because there are so many journaling routes you can go, it can be intimidating and easily discourage people from taking that first step. Don’t let that be you like it was for me. Even if you’re a complete beginner, journaling doesn’t have to be scary – you simply have to know how to start. With a few helpful tips, you’ll be journaling like a pro in no time.In today’s episode I will be talking to you about the 10 things that really helped me to start turning those blank pages into big life changes over the past year and a half.Send me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? When it comes to eating healthy, it can be a challenge to make sure you get the recommended servings of fruits and veggies each day. Maybe you worry that you’ll have to settle for lettuce and apple slices every day for the rest of your life. This simply isn’t true. There are several ways you can add healthier choices to your diet without having to cut anything out or lose the flavor and tastiness that you’re accustomed to. You just have to get creative, have fun and experiment. In today’s episode I am giving you 10 sneaky ways to add more fruits and veggies into your diet, without getting bored or sacrificing the yumminess factor. To help you create small healthy habits that add up to big results I have a great FREE guide for you about how to go about creating these small daily habits. Today I get to sit behind the mic with my cup of coffee and do something that I absolutely love to do and that is answer your questions. My team and I went to our question vault- ok it’s not really a vault per say but more like a google doc, where we put questions that our audience is asking; and grabbed a few that we felt a lot of you may also be wondering about.Today our questions come from Ashley P, Susan K and Cathy S and here is a short synopsis of what they asked and listen to the podcast to hear my answers.Cathy S asked “what are some healthy daily habits that healthy people do all the time?” Susan K asked “ I’ve plateaued in my fitness routine-help what can I do to get it going again?”And lastly Ashley P asked “ I’ve been getting winded a lot easier these days since I stopped exercising as much last year...is this a sign that I need to get back to exercising more?If you’ve got a question I’d love to hear it and answer it on the podcast, so DM me on instagram @wellwomennetwork or join our private facebook group well women 360 group, or simply join our VIP newsletter list here: www.wellwomennetwork.com and find a sign-up form on any pageUntil next week blessings MicheleSend me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? While intermittent fasting is not new, its recent high-profile exposure and success stories can make it appear trendy and even faddish. Simply, it is yet another healthy lifestyle approach that fell from favor under the pressure of modern living, with all its temptations and pressures. More and more people are trying intermittent fasting as a means of improving their health. For most, this means the end goal is to lose weight, and intermittent fasting has proven itself successful to this end. This is very valid reasoning because truthfully, far too many health conditions and diseases are caused and/or worsened because of excess body fat. For the majority, fewer pounds means better health, and intermittent fasting can help achieve it. However, it is not as widely recognized that intermittent fasting can provide health benefits other than weight loss. Health researchers are becoming increasingly aware that the modern western lifestyle impacts our bodies in many negative ways. On many levels, our bodies are overwhelmed and unable to clear the backlog of toxins and free radicals that build up within us. Unfortunately, this is because our internal processes are constantly engaged in duties relating to digestion and elimination, leaving little space for replenishment and rejuvenation. One method the body uses to achieve cellular renewal is autophagy. In today’s episode I am going to help you understand its vital importance, and how controlled intermittent fasting can trigger and sustain autophagy, for improved health, wellbeing and longevity.Send me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? We can all agree, I hope, that we are currently in an age where it is more recognized how much our emotional health affects our overall well being. That is not to say that either understanding or acceptance is complete. Far from it. Unfortunate and unhelpful attitudes certainly still exist, and probably always will to some degree. Sweeping generalizations are still used by some, and nowhere is this more obvious than in the field of women’s emotional health and wellness. There is little doubt that women are more emotional than men. What is sad is that this can be viewed simplistically as being bad, or a lesser state. Women experience emotions the way they do, and are affected by them as they are, for a raft of reasons.  Genetic, evolutionary, societal and environmental pressures combine with hormone influences, and all this is experienced and expressed as emotion. Today’s podcast is to help you as a woman understand why women feel emotions as they do and why their emotions are such a huge factor in their health, wellbeing and happiness. This will hopefully help to prevent the two main ways women can be victims of their emotions – firstly by feeling guilty for experiencing them as strongly as they do, and secondly by adopting a victim mindset. You have the right to experience your emotions, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a slave to them. You can learn proven methods for achieving greater emotional balance, to increase your feelings of self-empowerment and ultimately, happiness. In today’s show we will explore times in our lives and things in our lives that can have an emotional impact on us as women and ways that we can help ourselves to have better emotional wellness.Send me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? This episode is unscripted and comes from my heart. It’s about an issue that I am so passionate about and that is at the core of my mission and who I am as a women’s healthcare provider. There are so many things out in the world today that divide us, not always by our own accord but ones that are driven at a much higher level.Throughout world history disparity among people is what has caused Nations to fall. This past 1 1/2 we as a body of people have seen much disparity and it has caused a huge cavern of divide that we may not recover from as a Nation of people.First the election, then all racial issues, mixed in with a worldwide pandemic, to get vaccinated or not, to stay away from people who got vaccinated, and who knows what is next.Women’s health as a pillar should stand alone and not have any agenda attached to it, what one woman sees as her self advocacy right is her right and that decision should be respected no matter even if it differs from our own.If we don’t stand together to disrupt the archaic outdated notions that women’s health education now falls under then how are we ever going to foster better health care changes for the entire body called Women. That’s what I am discussing in today's show.Send me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? According to a poll by the American Psychological Association, 61% of U.S. adults reported undesired weight change since the pandemic began. The results, released in March 2021, showed that during the pandemic, 42% of respondents gained unwanted weight – 29 pounds on average – and nearly 10% of those people gained more than 50 pounds. On the flip side, nearly 18% of Americans said they experienced unwanted weight loss – on average, a loss of 26 pounds.Another study, published on March 22, 2021, assessed weight change in 269 people from February to June 2020. The researchers found, on average, that people gained a steady 1.5 pounds per month. When you have a goal of losing weight, your mindset is everything. Unfortunately, it is often the last thing on people’s minds (pun intended). When you start losing weight, you might be so fixated on calories or macros, what you can eat, what you can’t, and how often you exercise, that you don’t consider the emotional and mental changes. Losing weight is on many people’s minds but wanting to lose weight and actually doing it effectively are two entirely different things. There is so much information out there, that it becomes overwhelming. Different diets, workout plans, structured plans like WW or Keto, just counting calories or carbs, and so much more. It also goes beyond just figuring out which method of weight loss to go with, but the obsession and unhealthy habits that having a diet mindset can create. So, in today’s podcast I want to talk to you why you should ditch the typical diet mindset and work on developing a healthy mindset about weight loss instead. We explore the following:Ditching the diet mindsetDeveloping a better solutionYo-Yo dietingIncorporating healthy habits for sustained weight lossBenefits of weight lossThings to do and never do when trying to lose weightSend me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? The term “whole foods'' is thrown around a lot these days. While most of us are aware that whole foods are the way to go as it pertains to health and wellness, the exact definition is somewhat obscured. A whole food is any food product that remains in its natural form, free of any artificial additives, preservatives, or other man made ingredients. Examples include organic fruits and vegetables. The mainstream diet of today’s society has significantly strayed away from a whole foods approach. Many of the food products we consume are a far cry from their original form, loaded with harmful preservatives and added sweeteners. There is undoubtedly a correlation between this type of diet and the prevalence of many chronic health conditions such as obesity and diabetes. In this podcast, we will discuss 5 reasons why a diet centered on whole foods is a vastly superior way of fueling your body with the nutrients it needs to function optimally. We’ll explore the following benefitsFull Nutritional BenefitsSignificantly less sugarMore fiber, better gut healthReduce systemic inflammationPay the grocery store, not your medical providerSend me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? Funny thing happened this week. Not only did a lot of my in office patients ask me about what supplements they should be taking but so did a few of our online community members, so I thought I would turn on the mic and rattle off my top 11.I also get asked a lot where should I buy my supplements from and what brand of supplements should I buy, so I addressed these as well.I’m not a believer in taking a handful of supplements every day and you’ll hear me address this as well. If you have been listening to me for any length of time you already know that I prefer to get my vitamins and nutrients from food and I prefer you do too but sometimes we need to supplement. As a woman, it is important that you take good care of your health, on the inside and out. The top way you can do this is by ensuring you are giving your body all the nutrients it needs. Today we are dishing on the 11 supplements that I think are especially important for you as a women to have.Don’t forget to get the foods for insomnia e-guide as some of the supplements we are discussing in today’s show are in those foods as well.Go to www.wellwomennetwork.com/foods to grab it today.Send me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? An awakening has happened, no pun intended, regarding the importance of sleep. Sometimes referred to as the "sleep revolution," people are realizing the necessity of a good night's sleep.Impaired sleep and insomnia can be extremely detrimental to our bodies. The repercussions of sleeping less than five solid hours per night can begin as fatigue, moodiness, and impaired cognitive response, i.e brain fog and slow thinking as well as iomparied creativity. These can quickly escalate into more serious health conditions like weight gain, weakened immune system, high blood pressure, depression, and anxiety. There are remedies for nearly everything today; impaired sleep and insomnia included. Ladies, you can easily find pills at your local drugstore or ask your medical provider for a prescription sleep aid; however, a lot of these can leave you feeling even more sleepy or fatigued the next day.Luckily, there are many natural options to help you fall and remain asleep. Herbs, essential oils, bedroom plants, and meditation are all ways to assist with better sleep and offer little to no side effects and that’s what we are talking about today.I am also giving you a great freebie to go along with this episode called “Foods For Insomnia.” It’s loaded with 16 different foods that you can mix in recipes or just eat them on their own. One complaint that I get every day in my practice is women of all ages having issues in getting a great night's sleep, but few of them like many of you may not realize that insomnia issues may be directly related to the lack of you having a sleep hygiene. If you are one of these women, you might know you have issues with getting proper sleep but aren’t sure exactly why. While women experience sleep disturbances for a variety of reasons, some of those reasons being stress, poor diet, medical and mental health conditions, other women and perhaps you just might need to do one simple thing – improve your sleep hygiene. So, if you are experiencing daytime fatigue or sluggishness this is the episode for you.Send me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? February not only kicks off heart health month, but it is also my birthday month, my anniversary month, and of course It has Valentine’s day-the day of amour. The idea for this series was born when I polled my four 28-year-old daughters friends with this question, at a recent girl’s night in- not to worry all the girls at the small gathering already had COVID- so the question I asked them was “at what age did they think heart disease started?” most of them said it starts in women over 50 years and older. Then I asked them if they thought they needed to worry about their heart health and most of them said heart health is not something that they feel they have to be concerned with at this age. Well, my young at heart women, I’m going to tell you just like I told them, that is just not the case. I went on to explain to them that changes in your blood vessels just don’t happen overnight. Just like with type 2 diabetes or other illnesses, the changes start gradually without warning and research is now showing us that heart health changes can start in your early 30’s. So, listen in to part 1 of our healthy heart series because we explore what does having a healthy heart mean?Send me a DM on the gram @wellwomennetworkAre you subscribed to my podcast? Most women are creatures of habit, and that includes our mindset and thought patterns. You have probably noticed this when something stressful or upsetting happens; your mind tends to go the same place it always does. While this can be frustrating, it is also very possible to change how you react by changing your entire mindset.Changing our mindset inevitably leads to better behavior changes. In order to have better behavior patterns, the first thing you need to know about behavior change is that it is a process, and one that takes time. It requires practice, persistence, and an understanding that it isn’t going to change overnight. The reason most women struggle with changing their habits is because they don’t bother looking at their behaviors. The cues and triggers that cause them to make certain choices. In today’s episode we are going to look at how to change our mindsets and understand the process for doing this and then we are diving into how changing our mindset helps us to change our behavior. We also look at the four stages of habit formation, the concept of habit stacking, and looking at the cues of why we do what we do in order to gain a better understanding of our behavior, so that we can change it if we need to.Grab the freebie for this episode here: https://wellwomennetwork.com/blog/108-healthymindset/Follow us and send me a DM on instagram @wellwomennetwork If you’d like to continue this conversation leave me a comment here on this page or better yet join me in my closed facebook group: Well Women Network 360.  If you enjoyed this episode would you take a quick minute and leave us a rating and review over on ITUNES. Don’t Forget To Subscribe & Review Us iTunesAre you subscribed to my podcast? In today’s show we are talking about the business of your health. We are exploring why we look at our business or our career one way and then at our health in a totally polar opposite way, when in fact they are two sides of the same coin.In order to have a successful business or career you need your health in order to accomplish that, but oddly most of us don’t see it that way.We are more than willing to invest in our business or career but when it comes to our health we don’t see it as an investment but an expense. We are more than willing to lay good business practice foundations down but when it comes to our health we are ok with letting those practice foundations slide. Why? Well that is what we explore today.I’m telling it to you straight.Links mentioned in today’s show:DITBrands.comGrab your free resource guide: Mood boosting ritual for daily lifeFollow us and send me a DM on instagram @wellwomennetwork If you’d like to continue this conversation leave me a comment here on this page or better yet join me in my closed facebook group: Well Women Network 360.  If you enjoyed this episode would you take a quick minute and leave us a rating and review over on ITUNES. Don’t Forget To Subscribe & Review Us iTunesAre you subscribed to my podcast?
