The Rescuer or the Good Guy is typically one of two types of people--a recruit or a volunteer. They are often well-meaning and empathetic, but they end up becoming codependent with the Victim and working harder on the Victim’s problem than the Victim is. In both cases, the Rescuer/Good Guy is the one who gets handed the “hot potato” of responsibility by the Victim and Bad Guy. In the next podcast, we’ll look at how Rescuers can shift toward responsibility.--Do you want to develop your character, your relationships, and build a whole, healthy family of your own? Triangulation or “the irresponsibility cycle” has three people; a) the Victim, b) the Bad Guy, and c) the Rescuer. The Victim blames the Bad Guy and recruits the Rescuer. The Victim is the one driving the whole cycle because they’re passing responsibility onto someone else. So, what happens when this irresponsibility cycle starts to shape families, organizations, and society? When we talk about choosing love over fear in parenting, we’re talking about what is motivating our behavior toward our kids––and the motives we want to foster in them. We are actively trying to get them to manage themselves to make choices and behave in ways that promote and protect healthy connection. A reminder that as we look at parenting, these truths not only apply to listeners who have children, but also help us understand our relationships with our parents, with authority, and with God himself.--If you want to develop your character and build a whole, healthy family of your own, visit LovingOnPurpose.com and get all of our online courses plus access to additional training and resources. God gave the human family a mission to be fruitful, multiply, and subdue the earth. In essence, to build family and build culture. Specifically, a kingdom culture. Our original mission was to expand heaven on earth. Sin didn’t remove the mission or mandate, it perverted it and caused it to be full of pain, frustration, futility, and strife. We’ve created hell on earth. Jesus came to redeem all of that and renew our mission. Our mission is to build the family of God, kingdom culture–and to bring heaven to earth.--If you want to develop your character and build a whole, healthy family of your own, visit LovingOnPurpose.com and get all our online courses plus access to additional training and resources. Being made in the image of God means being made in the image of family. We are not atomized individuals who just hatch out of the ground or get made in a factory. We are persons connected to other persons and to God in the design of family. This means our identity is relational AND that we can’t know who we are, why we are here, and what we need to be doing with our lives apart from this relational identity. --If you want to develop your character and build a whole, healthy family of your own, visit LovingOnPurpose.com and get all our online courses plus access to additional training and resources. The current divorce rate is nowhere near 50 percent and has never been close to the 50 percent mark. Instead, the vast majority of marriages last a lifetime. Top experts continue to project divorce rates of 40 to 50 percent, but these are future projections based on various assumptions, and we’ve never come close to that high of an overall divorce rate. Most marriages (about 80%) are happy, but there’s a strong cultural message that most aren’t, which creates fear and discouragement about the institution of marriage. God’s design for marriage has been under attack. A perverted version of marriage has taken root in our culture. Marriage is to be the image of our relationship with God. It’s an epic adventure that’s hardwired into us. Married, divorced, single, or dating? There us unity in diversity. We see it in the Trinity and in the human family. The Godhead is “three in one,” and in the human family “two become one” and produce children to make three. Each part is a whole person that is essential to make the whole family. We are complementary to one another and our differences were designed as a gift. Then sin entered. As a consequence, God explains to them that their relationship is not going to work as it was designed. Now there’s this dynamic of domination and strife and unmet needs and pain and all the things that have fueled the battle of the sexes through history. But... Jesus shows us the way out of the battle. We unpack this thought along with Good Women, Sexy Butlers and much more.--If you want to develop your character and build a whole, healthy family of your own, visit LovingOnPurpose.com and get all our online courses plus access to addtional training and resources. We are in a cultural moment where there’s a battle over our inheritance and our national story. There’s one narrative that wants honor, preserve, and live more fully from what we’ve received from our founding fathers. To forgive them for their faults but also thank them for the inheritance they gave us and try to live up to it. There’s another narrative that’s about distancing ourselves from and criticizing our fathers and rejecting our inheritance, which just perpetuates the fatherlessness and orphanhood in our culture. We need to come back to the Father. And we need good fathers. We need reconciliation between the generations to see honor and life flowing again, but that begins with reconciliation to the Father.

In this episode, we’re going to unpack some of the big concepts we introduced in the last episode's brief theology of family. We want to talk about this idea of God being a family. What kind of family is God and what kind of family did He design us to be? Jesus’ whole mission, of course, was to reconcile us back to the Father and restore us to their divine family.

We often say that each person is made in the image of God. This is true. But if you look at this verse, you have God describing Himself in the plural--let US--and then making mankind in the plural--male and female--as his image. God--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is a family, and the human family is His image.
