You can change careers, body composition at any age, 30,40,50,60 and beyond. Do you believe that? Do you believe that you have the capacity to alter your patterns? Patterns repeat until you change them. Many people want more, want different and say YES to this question. But don't change anything. They fall right back into the same routine, habits and actions. WHY??????? Because its comfortable Nothing great happens in your comfort zone. You must do something different. Start small. Here are a few things you can do to alter patterns, change perspective, get a little uncomfortable. First write down your new goal, then.... 1. Take a different route to work 2. I read this quote today and it got me thinking... "The key to success is consistency" Most people don't actually struggle with consistency. The reason why most people are where they are … is because they are consistent Consistently eating processed or fast food that keeps them unhealthy... Consistently watching Netflix instead of reading a book... Consistently complaining instead of finding solutions or learning a new skill. Therefore, Consistency isn't what matters... Consistency to the right actions is what matters. "It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, It's what we do consistently' -Tony Robbins It's simple, ask yourself... Are the actions you're taking giving you the results you want? Are your current habits leading you to the life you want? You must build your habits and daily actions around the results you want. I was pondering the question I get often. How to deal with the people around us not believing in us or doubting our goals and dreams?? I had this epiphany, What if it’s not others doubting at all, what if it’s them saying what WE actually think, and it feels like them doubting us, but it’s really US DOUBTING US! I have been reading a ton about confirmation biases and it’s others(family, friends) confirming what we deep down believe about ourselves. Now we blame others for not believing in us, when it’s really us doubting us. So, what we need to do is ask the better question. Reframe it from THEY don’t believe in me and ask….Do I believe in me! I know that when I am convicted to my goal, it doesn’t matter what others think, it has no effect on me, my behavior or my belief! Confidence is ONLY EARNED. You do that by showing up for yourself everyday, proving to yourself you can learn anything, thus you can have anything because the next level of you, you will have to learn something new. If that’s your focus then others words and biases will not have that effect! It will remove the need for others to approve you or your goals because YOU will be proving to yourself, and being the approval you are seeking! Be your own approval! Be responsible for your outcomes! What are the things you measure or track to stay motivated? -Kyle, Ohio For me when hear or see the word motivation. I have conditioned myself to think ACTION!!! It's about effort! I track or look at my effort. I definitely set goals, but its not about obtaining the goal its about who I become in the process. It's about becoming the person that can obtain that goal. Putting in the effort it takes to get there. A win without the effort creates more pain. Lottery winner effect. Most go broke. Even commit suicide. Because they didn't earn it. It goes back to effort. When you bring that effort every single day, that's where motivation happens, that's where transformation happens. The 80/20 Principle or Pareto Principle says 80% of your results come from 20% of your activities. I believe its even more skewed than that. That most are doing very few things that are leading to the actual life they want. Leading them to "the best version of themselves" Meaning most of what you do throughout the day is actually a distraction. Most of what you are doing is taking you farther from your goals or the life you want. Dr. Marshall Goldsmith says, "If we do not create and control our environment, our environment creates and controls us.” We live in a world of constant distraction, constant infiltration on your time, your attention, constantly pulling you away from what you want. This is the airplane concept, which says that an airplane spends 90% of the time course-correcting, for head winds, tail winds, turbulence pulling it off course. It's a very simple 2 step process: 1. Tell me your goal. 2. Show me your calendar. Are the tasks/ activities on your calendar in alignment with the goal? If not fix it immediately. Create Values around your goal, why it's important to you. So you can choose tasks and activities that are in alignment with your goal. Mr. Jones worked ten years in corporate research at Digital Equipment Corporation. He also spent three years as Director of Information Systems at The Westminster Schools (an outstanding independent day school in Atlanta, GA).  A career educator with a history of leadership and innovation, Allan has designed and implemented educational programs that received national recognition and validation by the U.S. Department of Education. One of those programs, Project COFFEE, founded in the late 1970s, became a national model for getting high-school dropouts back into school and on a path to success.  The original program and several of its offspring are still in operation today.  His education partnering with industry resulted in a letter of recognition from President Reagan. Are you the type of person that gives so much love, compassion, and encouragement to others, but forget to give to yourself? Do you find it easy to give advise or help someone you love solve a problem, but don't take the same advise? This is all part of the human experience. Next time you are in turmoil and alone with your own thoughts remove yourself from yourself, or pretend to be a fly-on-the-wall watching yourself behave in the moment, then you can create distance from the situation. Let the self-talk be as if you were talking to another person. Psychologists call this Distance Self-Talk, athletes use alter egos, high performers use call themselves by their name. It allows for space and you can coach yourself through the problem. It's a psychological jiu-jitsu move. Practice a self-affirming exercise. At the end of each day, ask yourself if you think you gave that day your best effort(not got the most done or some result), did the day get your best effort. If you did, then this is a great way to motivate yourself to be even more productive tomorrow. The Virginia native served as the Assistant Director of Programming at Illinois State University in 2010, and Fraternity Services Director at Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) Fraternity headquarters in 2013. At SigEp, he created the organization’s first member safety curriculum focusing on consent, sexual assault prevention, and healthy relationships. Messersmith-Bunting also was the inaugural Vice President of Campus Operations and Health & Safety for the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) in 2017 where he championed the organization’s Health & Safety Initiative and the adoption of the NIC’s Alcohol & Drug Guidelines. In 2019, he transitioned to full-time speaker and consultant providing leadership, mental health and alcohol & drug prevention education at corporations like Solenis and The Job Sauce, and college campuses including Clemson University, Iowa State University and The University of Southern California. Messersmith-Bunting graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Samford University and a Master of Science in College and Student Personal Administration from Illinois State University. He was recognized by Illinois State University with the Outstanding New Professional award and Outstanding Faculty/Staff Advisor of the Year. Travis Barnes Bio: Before Travis Barnes became a best-selling author, international presenter, founder and franchisor of Journey Fitness 333 he spent a decade of his life in prison for a nonviolent drug offense. Upon returning home to his wife and daughter he worked hard to grow himself in the fitness industry so he could buy his family a home of their own. 2 months after buying their home Tropical Storm Lee caused it to be flooded to the second floor. The Pygmalion Effect is where an individual’s performance is influenced by others’ expectations. In other words, higher expectations lead to higher performance. However, the Pygmalion effect specifically refers to how our expectations of others affect our behavior towards them. In turn, this can contribute to higher performance. Our expectations can influence how we treat people, which can influence their own expectations of themselves. Low expectations can mean we treat people differently to those with high expectations. A self-fulfilling prophecy is created. Low expectations create a negative environment that creates low performance. Whilst high expectations create a positive and encouraging environment that creates high performance. Could this mean that our expectations of ourselves or low expectations of ourselves is why we limit our effort. Why we don't truly become our Optimal Self?
