Why We Tri | Triathlon Podcast for Beginners

Caroline Gardner

Welcome to The Why We Tri Podcast!

Finding self motivation when the world beneath you is crumbling seems impossible. Triathlon & Endurance Sports demand you to be present at all times. Losing focus for only a moment while on the swim, the bike or the run can have dangerous consequences.

All Episodes

Mike Estevez: Event Announcer, 12 Time Ironman Finisher, USA Triathlon Level1 Coach, IronmanU Triathlon Coach, US Masters Level 2 Swim Coach, USA Cycling Level 3 Coach, ACSM Personal Trainer, Father and devoted Husband.   Today’s episode starts with a little back story of how Why We Tri Podcast came into existence. In life we meet people who help us get back up and keep moving. For me that was teammate and good friend Gabriel Yanni. After the loss of my mom back in 2018 Gabe would encourage me to go on simple rides daily to just keep moving. Before I knew it we started: Coffee Rides with Gabe and Carrie on The Miami Tri Club FaceBook Page. We realized that it was the Underdogs of our team who inspired us to get up and keep moving the most. Soon after our rides Gabe decided to volunteer more with The Miami Tri Club and during quarantine he became a USAT Level II Triathlon Coach. Gabriel Yanni introduced me to many people who have become guests on this show. Including this next guest: Mike Estevez.   Mike opens up and shares how the loss of his brother due to cancer gave way to him making a life pivot in his career and health. Grab your favorite beverage and hear how this energized individual helps his clients to tune into what is going on in their lives and how that shapes their work out and training. As well as, gain some great advice on which gear is a must for a newbie in the world of Triathlon.    Connect with Mike Estevez: IG :@ mikeestevez FB: Mike Estevez Twitter: Mikeyestevez Website: www. A Why We Tri Production EP25: Evolving Triathlon: Conversational Pace with Bill Christy, CEO of Challenge North America It's a brisk March Monday morning here in Miami, FL. Bill Christy, CEO of Challenge North America, a triathlete at heart, graciously Zoomed in from his Daytona International Speedway Office with his Favorite Morning Beverage in hand, to share his Why in Tri-athlon. We are just 4 days out from Challenge-Family's inaugural event: Challenge Miami Triathlon. This historical triathlon festival is set to take place in Miami's very own Homestead-Miami Speedway. Only 35 minutes from Miami International Airport, making it a top Triathlon Triathlon Destination for years to come. Bill opens up and shares his personal introduction to the World of Triathlon. He reveals how endurance sports, NASCAR, the Challenge-Family Corporation , PTO (Professional Triathlon Organization ) and the active support from his beautiful family has all played an important roll in changing Triathlon as we know it. Triathlon has not been the greatest spectators sport. Nor has it been the most supportive sport in regards to the pros. Finally, here in the US it has lacked a festival energy that Bill guarantees for every level of age group athlete. Live Streaming of Challenge Daytona results, as well as televised production results, proved the idea that was once a dream, was in fact more than just a dream. The numbers from Challenge Daytona were so convincing, NBC recently informed Bill and the entire Challenge Family, they are in for a few years to come. We are witnessing history in the making of how dreams are born, dreams are created, dreams are invested in, cultivated and how dreams are driven into existence. NASCAR, a past time that is just about as American as Apple Pie, has happily opened it's doors to Challenge-Family, and the PTO (Professional Triathlon Organization). This holds great hope for pro-triathletes that have, for years been capitalized on for their accomplishments. This transformation in triathlon will unite a strong bond between pro-triathletes and their fans, as NASCAR has done for years between Race Car Driver and their dedicated fan following. I am excited to say, this is all just a dap of "tobassco" hot sauce in what Bill Christy and the Challenge-Family have planned for here in North America. A Why We Tri Podcast Production EP:02 Second Chances with Joaquin Duro In Tonight’s episode I am joined by my triathlon teammate, husband to Farrar Duro DOM, FABORM, father of four amazing kids, Vice President of Digital Telemundo Desportes, Kidney Transplant Warrior & Ironman Finisher; Joaquin Duro. As Miami turns up the heat during this Quarantine Time, we both bring our favorite and most essential beverage to this Zoom podcast: WATER!  As you will hear in Joaquin’s stories, staying hydrated is key! Joaquin’s introduction to the world of triathlon was unexpected and came shortly after a kidney transplant ignited him with motivation full of second chances. Joaquin’s story is not a common one but one that resonates with many of us, looking for those second chances life has to offer. Many times Joaquin was told no, not happening, not today and yet he continued to persevere towards an inner drive to show up and carry his feet over those finish lines. He even took a pause from triathlon after the loss of his father and talked about how that was an important part of his journey into coming back, when the time was right and he was ready. Joaquin opens up with how the support of his wife and children gives him the strength to keep going, as well as helps him to pick those destination Ironman races as family vacations. Making each Ironman Race an adventure for the entire family to enjoy.
