The Madames are on a season break, so they stole a Tempad from the TVA to bring you their full commentary series on Season 1 of Daredevil. As far as they're concerned, it's one of the few good reasons to head back to 2020. And it's a great refresher just in case Matt Murdock pops up in Spider-Man: No Way Home.   Matt Murdock & Foggy Nelson agree to a truce to take down Wilson Fisk. Along with Karen Page & Brett Mahoney, they find Detective Hoffman & use his testimony against Fisk. Meanwhile, Leland Owsley admits to Fisk that the accountant & Madame Gao poisoned Vanessa. Fisk immediately murders Owlsley, then finds himself scrambling as the FBI rounds up his associates. In a last ditch show of commitment, Fisk proposes to Vanessa, who accepts without reservation. Fisk is arrested, but escapes the prison transport. Matt, in his new suit of body armor, hunts down Fisk. The two have a bloody showdown, which ends with Matt leaving a beaten Fisk in Mahoney’s custody. “Daredevil” is touted as a hero in the papers as Fisk is incarcerated. Karen, Foggy, & Matt return to Nelson & Murdock for what appears to be a fresh start, but Matt & Karen are still carrying major secrets.    Daredevil is the launch point for the Netflix universe of Marvel shows. It stars Charlie Cox, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll, Vincent D’onofrio, Toby Leonard Moore, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Ayelet Zurer, Bob Gunton, & Rosario Dawson.   For more details on the film/TV references that spill out of Kris’s (and occasionally Amy’s) brain, as well as links to other podcasts, visit the episode page on our website: Episode page link Email us at themarvelousmadames@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter  Instagram  Tumblr

As far as they're concerned, it's one of the few good reasons to head back to 2020. And it's a great refresher just in case Matt Murdock pops up in Spider-Man: No Way Home.   Things get sloppy in Hell’s Kitchen as our heroes & villains really throw caution to the wind. While keeping Wesley’s murder to herself, Karen Page is caught in the middle of Matt Murdock & Foggy Nelson’s silent treatment. Wilson Fisk is losing control as stressors converge: Wesley is dead, Vanessa is alive but still in danger, and now his mother is in someone’s crosshairs. On a tip from Ben Urich, Matt discovers the headquarters of Madame Gao’s drug operation & burns it down, but Gao escapes to flee the country. Meanwhile, Fisk gets more suspicious of his accountant, Leland Owlsley. A broken & defeated Matt finally realizes that he can’t take down Fisk alone & bands together with Karen. But Matt’s epiphany is too late to save Ben Urich, who is brutally murdered by Wilson Fisk in retribution for visiting Fisk’s mother. In a last heroic act, Ben claims to have acted alone, taking Karen’s involvement to his grave.    Daredevil is the launch point for the Netflix universe of Marvel shows. She tries to repair her now frayed relationship with Ben Urich, who does not appreciate Karen’s recklessness & manipulations. Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk stands vigil over Vanessa at the hospital while Wesley tends to the empire & deals with Leland Owlsley. At the suggestion of Claire Temple, a recovering Matt tracks down Fisk’s tailor, who agrees to make the devil of Hell’s Kitchen his own body armor. Wesley discovers that Karen visited Fisk’s mother, but keeps the information to himself. He drugs & abducts Karen & tries to threaten her into working for Fisk. And it's a great refresher just in case Matt Murdock pops up in Spider-Man: No Way Home.   Matt Murdock, Karen Page, & Foggy Nelson fully join forces with reporter Ben Urich to take down Wilson Fisk. But unbeknownst to Matt, Fisk is laying a trap for the devil of Hell’s Kitchen. In a bold move, Matt visits the art gallery where a now publicly known Vanessa works. But his reconnaissance plan is cut short when Fisk himself shows up. After a brief but tense first encounter, a furious, terrified Matt flees the gallery. And the tension only increases after Fisk has Mrs. Cardenas killed. Racked with guilt, Matt falls into Fisk’s trap while pursuing the killer, as Foggy & Karen drown their own guilt at the bar. Matt is sliced to ribbons by Nobu before managing to set the warrior ablaze. But Fisk & his men are waiting in the shadows, and a showdown ensues between Kingpin & the devil. And it's a great refresher just in case Matt Murdock pops up in Spider-Man: No Way Home.   Matt Murdock’s former mentor, Stick, returns to Hell’s Kitchen after abandoning Matt 20 years before. Against Matt’s wishes, Stick kills a special child. This leads to an epic fight in which the two destroy Matt’s apartment & Matt orders Stick out of New York. Meanwhile, Karen Page & Ben Urich are still pursuing the Union Allied story. And after saving Karen from a goon attack, Foggy is finally made a member of their secret crusader club. And it's a great refresher just in case Matt Murdock pops up in Spider-Man: No Way Home.   Matt Murdock is on the run from Wilson Fisk’s personal goon squad. With Vladimir in tow, Matt holes up in an abandoned warehouse to formulate an escape plan & get information out of the Russian. Meanwhile, Foggy remains in the hospital with Karen, where he’s being treated for a serious shrapnel wound. And outside the warehouse now surrounded by cops, Ben Urich is digging further into the bombings around Hell’s Kitchen. With a little virtual assistance from Claire Temple, Matt keeps Vladimir alive long enough to get the name of Wilson Fisk’s money man, Leland Owlsley. Via walkie-talkie, Matt has his first conversation with the Kingpin himself, at which point Matt finally understands how overmatched he is in the fight for the soul of Hell’s Kitchen. Making a last stand, Vladimir facilitates Matt’s escape through the tunnels, but he is in more trouble than when the standoff began. Matt & his long-suffering legal partner, Foggy Nelson, get embroiled in a fishy murder case involving Karen Page. She’s being targeted by her employer, Union Allied, the corporate big bad of this season. Several attempts are made on Karen’s life, but the “devil of Hell’s Kitchen” saves her, and Karen exposes a major Union Allied scandal. In this universe, Thor is an only child because Odin & Frigga never adopted Loki, who was instead raised by his biological parents as the Crown Prince of Jotunheim. Without Loki’s influence, Thor grew to be a party boy instead of a hero. While his mother is away, Thor travels to Midgard to headline an intergalactic party and meets Dr. Jane Foster and Darcy Lewis, who tried to alert S.H.I.E.L.D. of Thor’s arrival. Thor and his countless minions party hard all over Earth, creating problems for SHIELD and interim director Maria Hill. Loki and his Jotun entourage also join the party, encouraging Thor’s reckless behavior. SHIELD enlists the aid of Captain Marvel to subdue Thor & the partygoers, but using her full power could do serious harm on earth. So Jane ultimately contacts Frigga via Heimdall, and Thor cleans up his global mess in time to avoid punishment from his mother. But a villainous version of Vision shows up at the very end, leaving us to wonder his motive.     Episode 7 stars Jeffrey Wright, Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Tom Hiddleston, Jeff Goldblum, Samuel L. We briefly discuss the plot of Episode 6 of What If this week:    In this alternate universe, Tony Stark is never kidnapped by The Rings and, therefore, never becomes Iron Man. Instead, he is rescued by Erik Stevens, a.k.a. Killmonger, a Navy SEAL on a mission in Afghanistan. Upon Tony’s return, Killmonger reveals to the world that Obadiah Stane was behind Tony’s attempted kidnapping. Out of gratitude and hope, Tony hires Killmonger to replace Stane as the COO of Stark Industries, a decision that makes Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan nervous. Charmed by Killmonger’s intellect & manipulations, Tony works with him to create a drone army. When it’s clear something is missing, Killmonger suggests they go searching for vibranium to improve the drones. Col. James Rhodes accompanies Killmonger to a meeting with Ulysses Klaw. Klaw & his forces are attacked by T’Challa, Wakanda’s Black Panther. Killmonger betrays Rhodey and kills him, revealing that he has been working with Klaw to draw out Killmonger’s cousin T’Challa, whom he also murders. Killmonger spins the incident to make Wakanda look like the aggressor, but Tony knows the truth thanks to JARVIS Killmonger then kills Tony before he can reveal the truth, though Pepper continues to be suspicious of the SEAL. General Ross uses the PATRIOT Act to take over Stark Industries, build a drone army, and wage war against Wakanda. Meanwhile, Killmonger brings the Wakandans Klaw’s body to paint himself as a hero and the prodigal son returned. He wins the battle with the Stark drones and manipulates everyone, including King T’Chaka, who makes Killmonger the new Black Panther. But Shuri isn’t fooled. She travels to New York to formulate a plan with Pepper to reveal the truth.     Episode 6 stars Michael B. Loki & Sylvie confront “He Who Remains,” a variant of Kang the Conqueror, in the Citadel at the end of time. He is the dictator behind the Time Variance Authority and the knower of all in the timeline. Kang explains how he has orchestrated Loki & Sylvie’s journey to the Citadel and forces them to make an impossible choice. They can either take over running the TVA from a very tired Kang or kill him. The latter option would break open the multiversal timelines and unleash dangerous variants of Kang, Loki, and others. Despite the danger, Sylvie is determined to kill Kang, and Loki is unable to stop her. In a wrenching show of emotion, Sylvie kisses Loki and shoves him through a time door back to the TVA. She then kills Kang, who promises to see her again with his last breath.    At the TVA, Mobius confronts Renslayer, who now has a mission of her own. Believing the TVA’s cause to be righteous, Renslayer goes in search of whoever’s in charge, with the help of mysterious files from Miss Minutes. Mobius and B15 are left behind to see the effects of Kang and Sylvie’s actions: countless timelines branching into chaos. A distraught Loki reunites with them, only to discover that this Mobius and this B15 do not know who he is or why the timeline is branching. Loki then sees that the TVA is different: instead of three statues of The Timekeepers, there is only one, and it is Kang.    Loki is Marvel’s third Disney+ show, continuing Phase 4 of the MCU. After being pruned by Ravonna Renslayer, Loki is transported to The Void at the end of time. There he meets four other variants of himself: Classic Loki, Kid Loki, Boastful Loki, and Alligator Loki. They explain that The Void is where the TVA dumps entire pruned timelines, and there is no escape. They are trapped there by a monster called Alioth who feeds on the pruned realities. Meanwhile, Sylvie tries to get answers out of Judge Renslayer, who is in cahoots with Miss Minutes to stop Sylvie. Trapped in the courtroom by hunters and convinced there’s something beyond The Void, Sylvie prunes herself. In The Void, she is picked up by Mobius.    Loki struggles to enlist the other Lokis to help him defeat Alioth and get back to the TVA to help Sylvie. But after a debacle with President Loki & other variants, Classic Loki and Kid Loki agree to help. Eventually, they meet up with Mobius and Sylvie, who determines that enchanting Alioth is the best way to get past the monster and into whatever is beyond The Void. With the unexpected help of Classic Loki, and empowered by their new bond and growth, Loki and Sylvie successfully enchant Alioth, giving them a clear path to a fortress that lies beyond The Void. While awaiting certain death on Lamentis, Loki and Sylvie somehow create a Nexus event that alerts Agent Mobius and Hunter B15 to their location. On Ravonna Renslayer’s orders, Loki and Sylvie are apprehended and brought back to the Time Variance Authority as prisoners. But the TVA is beginning to show cracks. Hunter B15 is shaken by the memories she saw during Sylvie’s enchantment, while Mobius presses Renslayer for information and access to Hunter C20. Renslayer stonewalls Mobius, informing him that C20 is dead. Mobius then has another round of interrogation with Loki, who has been doing some important introspection in an unpleasant time loop. Mobius recognizes Loki’s feelings for Sylvie, and Loki is finally honest and forthcoming with Mobius, whom he’d considered a friend. Loki tells Mobius he and the rest of the TVA employees are all prisoner variants, and Mobius immediately investigates this claim. After a tense confrontation with Renslayer, Mobius steals her TemPad and discovers the truth about Hunter C20 and the TVA. Mobius and Loki finally ally, but before they can work together, Renslayer has Mobius pruned. Meanwhile, Hunter B15 has partnered with Sylvie after the Goddess of Mischief showed B15 the life that was stolen from her. Renslayer takes Loki and Sylvie to be pruned by the Timekeepers, but B15 intervenes. Together, Loki, Sylvie, and B15 take down Renslayer and her Minutemen, only to discover that the Timekeepers are just robots. As a devastated Sylvie and Loki try to come to terms with this revelation, Renslayer prunes Loki. Rather than prune Renslayer in kind, Sylvie keeps her alive for answers. The premiere begins in 2012, with Loki using the Tesseract to escape the custody of The Avengers. He is immediately captured by the Time Variance Authority and taken to stand trial for his alleged crime. The TVA is an all-powerful organization created by entities known as the Timekeepers to maintain the proper flow of time. Judge Renslayer is just about to “reset” a guilty Loki, but the God of Mischief is saved by Agent Mobius, an investigator who hunts particularly dangerous variants. Mobius interrogates Loki in an effort to break through his emotional defenses, showing Loki his future and the consequences of his actions. Loki briefly escapes, only to realize the futility of it and, in the process, his own insignificance and powerlessness in the universe. Mobius then offers Loki a proposition. He wants Loki to help the TVA hunt down a fugitive variant that has been killing teams of TVA Minutemen, because the variant is Loki himself.    Loki is Marvel’s third Disney+ show, continuing Phase 4 of the MCU. The Madames roast the film that has them wondering why it was even made, since Malekith’s problem could’ve been solved with a trip to Sunglass Hut. They discuss how Thor: The Dark World is barely about Thor or The Dark World, which is kind of a problem, since the movie is called Thor: The Dark World. There’s also plenty of ranting about the tone-deaf treatment of women, particularly Jane Foster, whose character assassination is on par with Abraham Lincoln’s. And of course, no episode covering the Thor franchise would be complete without Kris salivating over Loki like a cartoon wolf.    Thor: The Dark World is the second film in the Thor franchise and Phase Two of the MCU. Overall it is the eighth film of the Infinity Saga.   Thor: The Dark World stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Kat Dennings, Stellan Skarsgard, and Christopher Eccleston.    For more details on the film/TV references that spill out of Kris’s (and occasionally Amy’s) brain, as well as links to other podcasts, visit the episode page on our website: Episode page link Email us at themarvelousmadames@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter  Instagram  Tumblr

In a flashback, we see that Ayo was integral in Bucky’s deprogramming and overall healing. She gives Bucky 8 hours to hand Zemo over to the Wakandans. In that time, Sam, Bucky, and Zemo go to Donya Modani’s memorial in search of Karli Morgenthau. However, John Walker and Lemar Hoskins demand to join them. Sam tries to negotiate a truce with Karli, but an increasingly aggressive Walker attacks and a fight with the Flag Smashers ensues. Zemo ambushes Karli and destroys the vials of super serum that are knocked loose in the scuffle. Walker drops in, knocking out Zemo and pocketing the one remaining unbroken vial of serum. A wounded Karli escapes, and the men regroup at Zemo’s apartment. Walker again tries to take Zemo into custody, but the Dora Milaje arrive first. Walker makes a wrong move, and the warriors attack. In the chaos, Zemo escapes and the Dora completely neuter Walker. After Karli threatens his sister Sarah, Sam agrees to meet with Karli again. Upon arriving,  Sam gets alerted by Sharon Carter that Walker is crashing the meeting again. Another fight ensues, only this time the Flag Smashers get more than they bargained for when they realize Walker has taken the super serum. Sam Wilson & Bucky Barnes break Baron Zemo out of prison to help track down the source of the super soldier serum. The trio heads undercover to Madripoor, where they meet with Zemo’s contact, Selby. She offers that Dr. Wilfred Nagel recreated the serum, but won’t divulge his location. Their cover gets blown by a bumbling Sam, who is very much out of his element. Selby and her henchmen are killed by a “guardian angel,” but Sam, Bucky, and Zemo immediately have bounties on their heads for her murder. They are confronted by former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter, who is now running a criminal business in Madripoor after being abandoned by the Avengers and named an enemy of the United States. Sharon begrudgingly helps the trio locate Nagel in his shipping yard laboratory. He admits to making 20 vials of super soldier serum for the Power Broker, but reveals they were all stolen by Karli Morgenthau. Zemo kills Nagel and an explosive firefight ensues. After holding off the enemy, Sharon returns to her intriguing business while Sam, Bucky, and Zemo head to Latvia to regroup. But Bucky is immediately confronted by Ayo, one of Wakanda’s Dora Milaje. Ayo intends to capture Zemo and bring him to Wakanda to face justice for the murder of King T’Chaka.   While Sam, Bucky, and Zemo are galavanting around Madripoor, Karli Morgenthau and the Flag Smashers cross the line to murder. And an increasingly frustrated John Walker is planning to get reckless.    The Falcon and the Winter Soldier continues Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the second half of our coverage of 2008’s Iron Man, we discuss Tony Stark’s journey from narcissistic playboy to narcissistic hero (baby steps). And we’re asking some important questions:   Is Tony the Dr. House of engineering? Do we have Jon Favreau to blame for the existence of GOOP? How many times could James Rhodes be court martialed? Was Obidiah Stane modeled after Harvey Weinstein?   And though it pains us to compliment Gwyneth Paltrow, we can’t help but praise her performance as the stalwart Pepper Potts.   Iron Man is the first film of MCU Phase 1 & the Infinity Saga. It stars Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, and Terrence Howard.   For more details on the film/TV references that spill out of Kris’s (and occasionally Amy’s) brain, as well as links to other podcasts, visit the episode page on our website: Episode page link: Email us at themarvelousmadames@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter  Instagram  Tumblr

We discuss the first half of 2008’s Iron Man. And some important questions crop up as we discuss Tony Stark’s introduction & time in captivity:   Had the Ten Rings henchmen ever seen RoboCop?  Just how high is Pepper Potts’s high horse? Who is the superior James Rhodes? (Spoiler alert - it’s Don Cheadle.) On a scale of 1-10, how weird is it now to hear JARVIS’s voice?   And we have plenty to say about Obidiah Stane, the man who is not an android, alien, or wizard, but rather the most nefarious villain of all: a rich, powerful white man.    Iron Man is the first film of MCU Phase 1 & the Infinity Saga. It stars Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, and Terrence Howard.   For more details on the film/TV references that spill out of Kris’s (and occasionally Amy’s) brain, as well as links to other podcasts, visit the episode page on our website: Episode page link Email us at themarvelousmadames@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter  Instagram  Tumblr
