The Ave Podcast - The 25th Anniversary of Juice #Juice25 (Soundtrack Side)

By Cal Cee

In the spirit of #FlashbackFriday, we take you back to 1992 where we celebrate one of the most influential movies of the Golden era. Twenty five years ago (originally released Jan 17, 1992), Paramount Pictures and Director Ernest Dickerson released Juice. A groundbreaking movie that not only tells the coming-of-age story of four teenagers from Harlem whose lives were forever changed by one fateful night, but it went on to launch the career of Omar Epps, and sent Tupac Shakur into superstardom. During this two-part podcast series, I invited DJ Chris Nice (Grooves & Rhythms Mixshow, Fridays from 2 – 4PM on MyLime Radio), DJ G-Sharp (Sunday Night Old School Classics, Sun 7 – 9PM; & WTF Throwback Mix, Fridays 8 – 8:30AM on WPGC’s 95.5FM in Washington, D.C.), past contributor to South Shore Ave Shawn Adonis (The Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready To Die, The MVPs of 2016), and producer Andrew Mambo (ESPN 30 for 30 Podcast), as we discuss the movie, the Soundtrack, the rise of Tupac Shakur, the days of the Soundtrack era for black movies in the 90s, the Power/Respect/Peer Pressure dynamic, plus more.
