We Need To Talk… About Systemic Racism, Sexism And Discrimination In The Workplace

By Emlen Miles-Mattingly

It is appalling that after all these years, racism is still rampant in our society. Some are blissfully blind that it still exists and those who are aware but don’t know what to do just choose to remain silent. Can we even put a stop to something that’s been happening for the past 400 years? As hard as it may seem, there is always something that we can do! In this episode, I am joined by 3 women CFPs — Angela Moore, Chloé Moore, and Lauryn Williams, who all worked hard to get to where they are and have successfully built their own financial firms despite the struggles they had to go through. We talk about their experiences and perspective on what it’s like when you’re the only black or brown person in the room and a woman at that. They share also their thoughts on the #BLM movement, having a voice, allyship, and what it means to have a seat at the table. If you want to support your black and brown brothers, sisters, friends, and people of color, then I encourage you to listen to this episode so that you have a general view of what it’s like to be in their shoes. Highlights: >> Thoughts on the events taking place in the US, particularly on racism >> Helping other people be aware of what’s really happening around us  >> Racism, sexism, and prejudiced experiences of people of colors in the workplace  >> Silent racism encounters >> Getting your intelligence questioned because of the color of your skin and how you look >> What it feels like to be the only black person and a woman in the room? >> How can we change the way black women and minorities, in general, are treated in the financial industry and in other fields >> #BLM is more than a hashtag Resources: >> Angela Moore's Social Media https://www.linkedin.com/in/angelamooremma (LinkedIn) https://www.modernmoneyadvisor.com/ (Modern Money Advisor) http://instagram.com/modernmoneyadvisor (Instagram @modernmoneyadvisor)   >> Chloé Moore's Social Media https://www.linkedin.com/in/chloemoore (LinkedIn)                                                 https://twitter.com/finstaples (Twitter @finstaples) http://facebook.com/finstaples (Facebook @finstaples) http://www.financialstaples.com/ (Financial Staples) >> Lauryn William's Social Media https://www.linkedin.com/in/lauryn-williams (LinkedIn) http://www.lauryn-williams.com (Lauryn’s Personal Website) https://www.worth-winning.com/ (Worth Winning) >> https://www.amazon.co.uk/Revision-History-Modern-World-Guides/dp/0719572290 (Revision for History: GCSE Modern World History by Ben Walsh and Wayne Birks) >> https://www.amazon.com/New-Jim-Crow-Incarceration-Colorblindness/dp/1595586431 (The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander) >> https://www.amazon.com/Black-Wall-Street-Renaissance-Greenwood/dp/1934645389 (Black Wall Street: From Riot to Renaissance in Tulsa's Historic Greenwood District by Hannibal B.
