Episode #131: 'Social Acupressure' with guests Tanjaret Daghet and more
By 21st Century Wire
THE SUNDAY WIRE broadcasts LIVE on the road with host Patrick Henningsen on location in Beirut, Lebanon, covering the top news stories internationally. In the first hour Patrick breaks down an extraordinary and insightful week on the road in the Middle East, along with updates on international news and events. We also got a chance to speak to a local graffiti artist of note, aka 'Chad the Mad', to learn more about the street art scene here in Beirut and beyond. Halfway through the first hour we'll be joined in-studio by a very special guest, Dani Shukri, drummer for the band Tanjaret Daghet طنجرة ضغط (aka 'Pressure Pot'), a Syrian rock band currently based in Beirut, to discuss their music and what's happening in the underground music & culture scene here in the Middle East region (if you like their music and want to support these artists, then we encourage you to download their latest tracks here). After that, we'll travel to South Lebanon to meet with our guide there as we tour a former war zone that spans from the Crusades all the way to 2000 when the Hezbollah resistance fought and pushed back the Israeli Occupation, and later in 2006 when they defeated Israel's IDF. In the final segment, we may try and connect with our new roving "democracy correspondent", Basil Valentine, to see if there have been any sightings this week in the world. Strap yourselves in and lower the blast shield - this is your brave new world... *WARNING THIS EPISODE CONTAINS EXPLICIT LANGUAGE AND ADULT THEMES* The Sunday Wire with Patrick Henningsen broadcasts LIVE on Alternate Current Radio SUNDAY 5pm-8pm GMT, 12pm-3pm EST, 9am-12pm PST at http://alternatecurrentradio.com and http://thesundaywire.com.
