Kelly Clarkson grew up in the small town of Burleson, Texas. She wasn’t interested in singing until middle school, when she had to choose between choir and band. It came naturally to her, and by high school she was winning choir contests, singing the national anthem at gigs to earn extra cash, and on track for scholarships to prestigious music schools. But, at age 18, Kelly moved to Los Angeles to make it on her own, her big ambition was to become a backup singer. Two years later, in 2002, she auditioned for a new TV show called American Idol -- and when she won -- Kelly catapulted to fame. Today, Kelly Clarkson has released eight hit studio albums, won three Grammy awards, and she’s one of the most recognizable pop stars of her generation.
