BtR 003 – Reading Towards Your Success, Why What is on Your Bookshelf Influences Your Success

By Brandon Cunningham and Jerry Dugan

Why is reading so important to your success? What is on our reading list? How do you get the wisdom from successful people when they don't have time to mentor or coach you? In this episode Shawn and Brandon discuss the benefits behind a good reading habit, share tips on when and where to read, and the books that have had the biggest impact on their lives. Listen to this episode and comment below. What books influenced you the most? When do you get your reading in? How will you apply this episode towards your success? Our Reading Recommendations Article - The 26 Major Advantages to Reading More Books and Why 3 in 4 People Are Being Shut Out of Success A Tale of Three Kings by Gene Edwards The War of Art by Steven Pressfield Do the Work by Steven Pressfield The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf The Two Degree Difference by John Trent Wild at Heart by John Eldridge The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkerson The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman Every Man's Battle by Fred Stoeker and Stephen Arterbaum How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey AUDIO - The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale Use Your Smartphone to Lose Weight by Jerry Dugan (Kindle, Nook, iBooks, Google Play) Holding on Loosely by Pablo Giacopelli Jerry's Five Picks $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau (Inspirational more than practical, I'm reading this again in 2015.) Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki (Changed the way I look at money.) The Christian Husband, Kindle Edition by Bob Lepine (What if God interviewed you before you dated His daughter, your future wife?) The Martian by Andy Weir (Unlike Shawn and Brandon, I find a LOT of value in reading fiction to exercise my mind, think differently. Also, the story behind this story is great. You should check it out. Weir shares it at the end of the novel.) Unforgiven: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption  by Laura Hillenbrand BONUS: Ghost Soldiers: The Epic Account of World War II's Greatest Rescue Mission by Hampton Sides (Go way behind enemy lines to rescue hundreds of soldiers your nation thought were dead? Shoot! I'm in!) Jerry's Note: I love, absolutely LOVE, triumphant, leave-no-one-behind, underdog stories, especially when no one else thought you'd ever succeed. This passion for underdog stories goes back to first hearing about The Tortoise and the Hare, I suppose. I want to hear about your triumphant underdog story as you make your own path beyond the rut. The "Read to Lead Podcast" by Jeff Brown is a great audio resource that reviews books on leadership that will help us pick and choose what is worth our investment of time and money to grow ourselves.
