42: James Ketchell - Serial Adventurer & Motivational Speaker
By Peter Brees, endurance Junkie
James Ketchell is a serial adventurer, motivational speaker and Scouting ambassador. In 2007, James was recovering from a serious motorcycle accident that left him with broken legs and a severely broken and dislocated ankle. The prognosis was that he was likely to suffer a permanent walking impairment and would certainly not be able to continue the active physical lifestyle he had enjoyed up to that point. But he wanted to prove them wrong. He decided to take on what has been described as the world's toughest triathlon, and earned himself a place in the record books in the process. He rowed 3,000 miles across the Atlantic, climbed to the summit of Everest, and cycled around the world unaided. In this interview we talk about: - His sporting background growing up in the UK.- His motorcycle racing career and how a crash changed everything.- Why he wanted to prove the doctors they were wrong.- Rowing the Atlantic, summiting Everest and cycling around the world.- What's next on his list of challenges.
