The Mindful Minute - Breathe with Your Belly!

Having trouble using your abdominal muscles to breathe? Feeling anxious? Overwhelmed? Here is an exercise for you. Lie down comfortably on your back. If your chin points at the ceiling, place a pillow under your head to keep the muscles in your neck working together in balance. Place a pillow under your knees to remove pressure on your lower back. Place a pillow or yoga block on your abdomen. As you breathe in slowly and deeply, pay attention to the sensation of the pillow or yoga block rising toward the ceiling. As you breathe out, notice its gentle descent toward your spine. Stay here and breathe as long as you are comfortable. Don’t worry if it takes time to make sense. Just keep practicing.
