I'm an American songwriter who's been active on the Long Island music scene since 1976. My life as a songwriter began in 1966 when I was an Army brat living in Verdun, France.
Over the next 10 years, I was very active in a wide variety of rock & roll bands that played high school dances an pep rallies, parish suppers and nightclubs.. Throughout most of those situations, I was lucky enough to be working with other musicians who were into doing original material. Even back then, I always thought that the mark of a really good band was one that played some of their own songs. By 1976, I had settled in the Long Island area of New York and was working as the lead singer-rhythm guitarist of the legendary Long Island rock combo, the Freelance Vandals; a band which was renowned for playing a lot of original material. During my Freelance Vandals years, the band opened shows for such notable artists as John Hiatt, Dr. John, NRBQ, Paul Butterfield, Rick Danko and Albert King. The Freelance Vandals also received accolades in such publications as The New York Times, Creem, Newsday, Variety, The Hollywood Press, Billboard and Cashbox.
With regards to my music, my main obsession continues to be songwriting. My creative goal as a songwriter is to create modernistic songs which capture the immediacy of old time blues & rock n' roll. In addition to my ongoing career as a songwriter, I also own and operate my own record label, Mind Smoke Records.
