The group, consisting of the producer Jonathan Elkær and the singer Mads Bo, has earned considerable international praise on the way, by publications such as i-D, Diamond Deposits and Complex, who describe Phlake as ‘cinematic r’n’b’.
The Danish duo are not resting on their success, though, and their most recent album, ’Weird Invitations’ is a clear indication of the ambition in the group. Having been dubbed ‘rhythm’n’balls’ on their previous release, due to the ‘ballsy’ and innovative nature of their music, they’ve now expanded their sound.
The result is a complex yet inviting record, which was recorded in LA and Copenhagen in collaboration with artists such as Alina Baraz, Coco O (Quadron), Robin Hannibal (Rhye, Quadron) and songwriter Daniel Wilson (The Weeknd and Miguel etc.).
The whole of the Phlake musical experience is something the band has called Phlake Mansion: An imaginary place, where the music never stops, the shades never come off and the sun always shines. It’s a place of many rooms with different moods and sounds. Don’t you want to visit?
