These New Puritans [A.K.A TNP] are a band from Essex, England.
Now consisting of twin–brothers George Barnett and Jack Barnett, their music defies easy categorisation.
Their new album is INSIDE THE ROSE.
The brothers started playing music together as kids, when they were 7 or 8 - hitting a pair of bongos from a charity shop with drum sticks and playing a massively over-sized guitar. A teenage TNP released their debut album Beat Pyramid (2008), a circular work of fast rhythms, repetitive lyrics and fractured field recordings. Hidden (2010) defied all expectations, with brutal Japanese Taiko drums, dancehall rhythms and austere woodwind (Jack learnt notation to score Hidden’s orchestral arrangements; the album was co-produced by Graham Sutton of Bark Psychosis, who would continue to work with the band). After appearing on Björk’s Bastards remix album, TNP released the lush, cinematic Field of Reeds, followed by EXPANDED: Live at the Barbican (2014).
In 2015 they started work on Inside The Rose in Berlin, inside a former Soviet broadcasting studio in the city’s industrial suburbs. In 2016 they composed the sound-track to the theatrical production of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.
