2017 has been a busy year for Afro B. Having released the ‘Afrowave’ mixtape at the start of the year, the project’s lead track 'Juice & Power' quickly turned into a UK anthem, buoyed along by word of mouth support.
It grabbed a spot on the 1Xtra playlist, racked up millions of plays, and is still soundtracking parties from Aberdeen to Ayia Napa. Whilst all this was going on, Afro B was – as ever – moving forwards. In Spring he curated 'Moves: The Sound Of UK Afrobeats', a feted compilation that was the first to document the new UK sound combining afrobeats, rap and bashment. This was followed up by appearances at Glastonbury, Wireless and Red Bull’s Notting Hill Carnival sound system. Next he could be seen in a Channel 4 documentary covering the new UK scene he is leading. In between he kept on recording his radio show #AfrobeatsWithAfroB, a show that has defined and shaped the new sound of the UK – a sound he has termed Afrowave. Capping his yea, he has scored another club and radio smash with the N2ThaA produced banger Pull Up - already a fixture on Apple and Spotify playlists and heavily supported by DJs across Radio 1, 1Xtra, Kiss, Capital and more.
