Ariel Petrie grew up listening to many different styles of music. Artists such as Copeland, mewithoutYou, Ingrid Michaelson, and various other indie artists inspired her to write more thought provoking lyrics.
However, she still drew influence from modern day pop artists such as Katy Perry, Coldplay, OneRepublic, Adele, and Maroon 5. To merge these 2 seemingly opposing influences – poetic verses pop – Ariel has combined the whimsical wonderment from the pop realm with the poetic ponderment from lyrical indie artists to create a truly captivating sound within the pop genre.
Ariel was born in Phoenix, Arizona and grew up moving between Heyworth, Illinois and her home-state most of her childhood. Classically trained on piano since the age of 8 and began writing her own music at age 11, Ariel is no stranger to music theory which helps in her songwriting process. At age 18, Ariel was a contestant on the 1st season of The X-Factor USA, making it through the judges round with her original song When it Rains. It was the 2nd round of Boot Camp that sent Ariel home, but she left with the courage and confidence to move forward with her music career. Immediately following her elimination, she started working on her debut EP Catch 22.
After her X-Factor experience, Ariel spent a few years in Nashville, TN where she performed dozens of iconic venues. Music City is where her sophomore EP Magic was written and produced. Her 3rd EP Wanderer is set to release November 17, 2017.
