After modest streaming successes over the next year, the single “Need This Feeling” was paired with a music video from indie video game “Five Nights at Freddy’s” and went on to reach 30 million plays in the following months. At the same time, Schuller was building an audience for his simple piano/vocal reworkings of popular songs. “Once I Was 7 Years Old,” a cover of Lukas Graham
’s “7 Years” put Schuller into digital sales charts in multiple countries, including a quick stint in the ARIA Top 100 singles chart.
In 2015, Schuller expanded his online footprint, launching YouTube-based band NerdOut
with two other popular personalities from the site. By late 2017 the group had become a staple in the ‘nerdcore’ genre, amassing a million subscribers and 200 million views.
The sophomore original album “Young Unprofessionals
” was released in September 2017, featuring singles “Crash and Burn” and the NerdOut assisted “Like Me Broken.”
