Brooklyn quintet Pavo Pavo first stared making music together when they were studying at Yale. Originally starting out as Plume Giant, the group changed their name to Pavo Pavo after a southern constellation of the same name, which means "peacock" in Latin.
The name change was somewhat indicative of the type of idiosyncratic music they would go on to make, namely '70s-influenced, harmonic, cosmic geek-pop.
The band was composed of Eliza Bagg (vocals, synths and strings), Oliver Hill (vocals, guitar and keys), Ian Romer (bass), Nolan Green (guitar and vocals), and Austin Vaughn (drums). As classically trained musicians, Pavo Pavo's members worked with highly regarded artists from the indie and classical worlds, like Here We Go Magic, John Zorn, Dave Longstreth, Porches, Olga Bell, Lucius, Roomful of Teeth, and San Fermin. In addition to his role in Pavo Pavo, Hill also acted as a string arranger for acts like Dirty Projectors.
Before the group released their debut album Young Narrator in the Breakers in 2016 they put out two songs from the record, "Wiserway" and "Ran Ran Run." In the run-up to the release they were favorably compared to acts like Grizzly Bear, Mercury Rev, and Fleet Foxes. ~ Bekki Bemrose, Rovi
