Raised in South London, Ese Okorodudu graduated from London’s most demanding performing arts school — the streets, as a busker — singer-songwriter Ese (vocals, guitar) is backed by the incendiary Vooduu People: ex-Noisette Pharoah Russell (drums), Basile Petite (bass) and – since June 2018 – Destra Orsheena Ross on backing vocals.
Keyboard virtuoso Jackson Baird joined in August 2018.
Ese and her band are inspired by legends from Hendrix to Amy Winehouse, via Bowie, Prince, Skunk Anansie and Erykah Badu. They were named by 'The Guardian' newspaper as one of the acts to look out for in 2019: A killer live act, they signed to Quadrafon Music Industries and recorded two singles in 2017, “Dynamite” and “Fairytale” with renowned hip-hop engineer Jay Burnett (Beasties, Run DMC etc) producing.
The expanded “Dynamite EP” was released digitally and on CD in January 2018, with Burnett’s recording of the band’s first gig with this line-up released as “The Bootleg Series Volume 1” in April ’18.
Work on debut album, "Up In Smoke", this time with producer/Gearbox Records founder Darrel Sheinman at the controls, completed in October 2018. A fourth single (the first from the album), "Silver Spoon", was released on 28 November 2018, followed by another, "Keep On", on 31 December. The album will be released in January 2019.
