Originally based in the East Midlands but now living in East London, Jon Dix and Dan O’Donnell-Smith formed Moscow Youth Cult when they collaborated on an electronic sound installation for Nottingham’s GameCity – Europe’s biggest video games cultural festival.
Songs from MYC’s first album 'Happiness Machines', released through East London-based Lo Recordings in 2012, featured in some unlikely places - 'Survivasm' found a home in the hit video game Saints Row IV; the song became popular as it provided the soundtrack to a level that went onto achieve notoriety after being banned in Australia.
Following a switch to Nottingham's I Own You Records in 2014, the duo's follow up EP 'Lux' contained some fine examples of MYC’s manifesto to create dance music and deconstructed pop that is as experimental as it is compelling. 'Lux' [the measurement for luminous emittence] draws its inspiration from the riches of electronica, avant-garde poetry and the grainy aesthetic of obscure Sci-Fi and Horror movies.
MYC's second full album 'Brutalist' is penned for release on September 28th 2018, through Hello Thor and I Own You Records, accompanied by a limited Vinyl run.
