Thank you, firstly, for all the support.
I’ve been writing music for close to a decade now. I’ve used it to process leaving my home and losing my love- to expelling political anger- to have a really good time seeing the USA- to connect with you... Name it! I hope you can find yourself in a song or two. In a conversation with some friends I confessed that my instrument wasn’t guitar, bass, or piano but that my instrument (what I practice day in and day out) is songwriting. It’s all about lyricism and arrangements to me.
Home Life is a dramatization of my upbringing. It explores themes as whimsical as having a wild party and as solemn as losing a family member. It was all independently recorded in my home studio.
Politics Are Parlor Tricks is a very visceral political folk-punk tape. I wrote and recorded it very quickly the month before Trump was elected president. It was released on Election Day. It’s pretty cathartic. Psychedelics were involved. So was Terence McKenna.
Real Plan feels like a breakthrough. On a three month long road trip I was met with a call from producer Chris Schlarb (bandleader of Psychic Temple). We talked a long time about music and methods and came to the conclusion we would record an album together with studio musicians all in the same room. I completed all the songs on the trip and when I returned to the west coast Chris and I spent three days arranging and capturing them all.
