With ‘I Sing’ Helen Botman has found her own sound, combining elements of folk and pop in her music. Botman chooses to mix this with the adventurousness of jazz and elevates the songs out of the usual genre of the three-minute-songs.
She started taking her first voice lessons in her early teens and joined her first band. For many years Helen has been performing with several bands on various stages in The Netherlands.
With ‘world pop’ group La Luna she released five multi-langual albums (Hologram, Blue Rose, La Route Lilas, Harmoniepark and Caminante), she toured in The Netherlands and abroad, and was awarded the Rabo Culture Prize.
In addition, she created the theatershow ‘Woman With Wings’ (Vleugelvrouw), in which she combined different disciplines: music, singing, dance, poetry, fashion and visual arts. The music of this show was released on the album ‘Vleugelvrouw’ in 2013. In 2015, Helen released the single/video ‘People’ to feed positivity and celebrate diversity, in
support of Musicians Without Borders, an organization that uses music as a tool to build connections, foster empathy and shape communities.
