When Joel & Tyler met at a show in early 2005, they never would have dreamed about the amount of touring they would be doing together today; nor did they realize that they would become one of the progenitors of what is now the modern melodic hardcore scene.
Joel was already playing music with then 13 year-old bassist Ralph Sia, and the pair brought Tyler into the band. They named their band Being As An Ocean in Spring 2011, and began recording what would be their first album that summer. 2 years later, during a surprisingly dense and grueling touring schedule, the band met singer and guitarist Michael McGough during a tour with the band The Elijah. The Elijah would break up promptly following the tour, and McGough then joined the boys to complete the line-up.
They now tour around the world, walking the line between aggressive post-hardcore and mainstream anthemic rock, while constantly throwing curveballs at the audience from their basket of influences including Sigur Rós, This Will Destroy You, mewithoutYou, and HEALTH.
