Three words describe Charles Robinson's style of playing, "inventive, soulful and funky!" He was exposed at an early age to a variety of genre's (jazz, classical, rock, R&B, gospel, funk and hip hop) and instruments.
The Alto Saxophone and Piano are his primary instruments. Charles' influences include John Coltrane, Prince, Joshua Redman, Chick Corea, Jodeci, Pink Floyd, Rick James, Hezekiah Walker, James Hall, John P Kee and Jimi Hendrix.
Charles attended Alcorn State University were he marched with the world renowned Sounds of Dynamite marching band and participated in Concert Band, Saxophone Choir and studied applied piano and saxophone. Charles was later called to Army active duty in 2004 to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Charles has served as music director for several religious organizations and has performed overseas in support of the U.S Military in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.
On January 1, 2018, Charles released his first jazz solo album "The Golden Ratio." Charles music direction is very much "out the box" but still pays tribute to the legends that came before him.
