So, what was it that prompted this acceptance in Alayna's life? For her, it was an upbringing of soul combined with a penchant for heart-piercing lyrics. "I remember the first time I heard 'Nirvana' by Sam Smith," she says. "That was the song I played over and over until I fell asleep." Growing up on a rich diet of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and other esteemed lyricists didn't hurt, of course, and, through them, Alayna discovered the value of terrific songwriting, which has shaped her mentality and art today. "I love lyrics that take the air out of my lungs," Alayna states. "I want to do that with someone. I want to write to someone I never knew and to touch them regardless."
