Berlin duo HYENAZ manipulate field recordings to create techno soundscapes and dark ambient underworlds.
Electro superstar PEACHES called HYENAZ a “performance monster duo” in The Guardian. If their sound is hard to locate it is because for HYENAZ genre is a sonic tool through which they can explore how bodies move in relation and resistance to systems of management and control. This research might find its expression in a performance at Berghain, or when interviewing migrants at a refugee camp, or creeping along the edge of a lake, recorder in hand, to catch the mating calls of frogs at sunset. Later in the studio, HYENAZ remix and remediate the sounds, movements, and experiences they gather on their journeys into yet more audio visual and performative works to release into the world - a never ending cycle, a feedback loop, that yields a compelling sonic universe
