Stanlaey is, in essence, the androgynous pseudonym for Bethany Stenning - musician, composer and director from England.
The band is currently a trio led by Bethany (vocals, electric guitar) with Ed Holland (Bass, soundscapes), Ben Docwra (drum-kit, congas, percussion) where the band's soundscape has developed in the diverse genre pool of folk/jazz/pop, frequently likened to artists such as Joanna Newsom, Dirty Projectors and Kate Bush.
The project began in early 2017 when Bethany released a solo album titled Ouroboros in February 2017 under the name Stanlaey following which Bethany took the album around venues in Southampton, Bristol, and Ireland with the Seaweed String Quartet. Bethany has since been working on the release of upcoming album and film The Human Project. The Human Project album will be released in late 2018.

Bethany’s experimental song-writing topics (seaweed snakes, wooden mannequins coming to life, rams growing into mountains), and soundscapes that meld genres together (Ice-chambers, bi-polar folk songs, and obscure polyphony) are amplified by the unique and ethereal nature of Bethany’s voice, and the developing nebulous textures of the live band.
