A multifaceted British singer/songwriter with a penchant for collaborations and pairing traditional English folk with rootsy Americana, Chris While was born in 1956 in the seaport town of Barrow-in-Furness.
The Lancashire native spent her formative years honing her guitar and singing chops at local folk clubs, eventually leaving her hometown to tour with her then husband, pianist/songwriter Joe While. The pair divorced in 1991 and While launched a solo career with her debut album Still on Fire. By Request arrived the following year, and in 1993 she joined and became an integral part of the Albion Band
, with whom she would play, tour, and record with until 1997. It was around that time that she began a long musical relationship with fellow ex-Albion Band
member Julie Matthews
, releasing a string of albums that began with Piecework in 1998. The duo's 2010s offering, Who We Are, was issued in 2014 via FatCat Records
