Duo Patrick De Meyer and Oliver Abeloos, whose roots were in Belgian new beat, produced one of 1991’s biggest rave tunes with ‘Anasthasia’, after which they moved from XL Records to Columbia Records.
They followed it up with ‘Nocturne’, sung by Perla Den Boer with a rap from Zenon Zevenbergen. Their debut album saw them add another, more speedy rapper for several of the cuts, but they were still some way short of the artistic mark set by the Detroit stalwarts, which they were desperately trying to emulate. However, the resonant ‘Anasthasia’ was later sampled by both 2 Unlimited and even Kylie Minogue.
