Caleb Trask drinks deep from the the desert folk-rock traditions of Los Angeles, as well as seeking inspiration in the wider American musical and literary tradition.
Fans of California folk-rockers like Jackson Browne and Connor Oberst, as well as those of songwriters like Noah Gundersen and Josh Ritter will recognize a tender violence in his sound that puts lyrics at the center.
The Across the Water EP was featured in NoiseTrade's New & Notable releases, where they called it “A promising debut effort from one of Los Angeles’ sincerest emerging singer-songwriters.” The EP is transcontinental from conception—the songs are Brazilian by birth (and inspired Trask's musical "coming out" while living on the Amazon delta), but they yearn homeward, toward the hills and coastline of California, where he finally returned to record them. "California Smile," a homeward-hearted staycation ballad for a distant home, has enjoyed international radio airplay, and with a forthcoming LP going to studio early 2018, the horizon's the limit.
