The Leonore Piano Trio has specialized, not in the chamber music of Beethoven, but in that of neglected Romantic composers. The group was formed in 2012. The trio's three members -- violinist Benjamin Nabarro, cellist Gemma Rosefield, and pianist Tim Horton -- had performed trios as part of the larger chamber music cooperative Ensemble 360 and had gained notice for those performances. The trio quickly was contracted for concerts through the U.K. and in Italy, Norway (at the Bergen International Festival), Denmark, and New Zealand, where it mentored young musicians in a local counterpart to Venezuela's La Sistema. It has since performed at the Odsherreds Kammermusikfestival (Denmark), Music at Oxford, Buxton Festival, the Leamington Music Festival Weekend, and Lakeside Arts Centre Nottingham, and in 2016-2017 it made its debut at Wigmore Hall. It returned to that series in 2017-2018, also giving a concert at Istanbul's Süreyya Opera that year. In addition, it has performed Beethoven trios under the auspices of Britain's Music in the Round chamber series. The trio was signed to Hyperion soon after its formation. It released its debut album, a recording of the trios of Anton Arensky, early in 2014, and it met with praise from Britain to Australia, where Limelight enthused over the group's "impressively wide range of timbres." It issued a recording of Lalo trios in 2015, one of trios by British composer David Matthews in 2016 (on Capriccio), and a recording of the trios by Rimsky-Korsakov and Taneyev in 2017. A recording of the trios of little-recorded German composer Johann Peter Pixis appeared in 2018. All the members of the trio have had flourishing solo careers. Violinist Nabarro has appeared with such groups as the English Chamber Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Cellist Rosefield gave a highly successful Pierre Fournier Award recital in September 2008 at Wigmore Hall. And pianist Horton released a CD of Shostakovich and Prokofiev viola music with Robin Ireland in 2010 and a CD of the Brahms Viola Sonatas with Henninge Landaas in 2012.
