Big Sugar was Formed in 1988 in Toronto.
Big Sugar’s second album “500 Pounds”, added band members multi-instrumentalist Kelly Hoppe, bassist Garry Lowe along with drummer Al Cross.
By 1996’s release “Hemivision”, reggae was added to the mix and they shot to the top of the charts.
More albums followed with songs like “Digging a Hole” “Turn The Lights On” “The Scene” and “If I Had My Way” becoming radio staples.
In 2011, Big Sugar reformed, releasing “Revolution Per Minute”, with hits “Roads Ahead” and “A Lil Bit A All Right”.
2014’s “Yard Style”, added horn players and additional drummers performing unplugged versions of their original songs
In 2015, the core 5 piece band recorded “Calling All The Youth”.
Mr. Johnson has also become an in-demand producer, songwriter and mixer, working in a variety of capacities for artists such as Gov’t Mule, Black Crowes, North Mississippi All Stars, Colin James, Joel Plaskett, The Trews and Glorious Sons.
