ALEX PERTOUT is a Chilean born, Australian award-winning percussionist, composer, producer, educator.
His playing has graced hundreds of albums, soundtracks as well as many popular Australian iconic hits including Daryl Braithwaite 'The Horses' and Powderfinger's 'My Happiness'. As a versatile percussionist he has also attained credits in countless live performances, as a member of television and theatre orchestras, as well as a respected educator and academic. In tandem he has developed a personal creative artistic career as a recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, author and ensemble leader.
As a founding member of the Australian Art Orchestra he has toured Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania. He has produced critically-acclaimed albums featuring outstanding national and international artists and was awarded the 'Premio Internacional' at the 2015 Cuban Music Awards. A graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), he holds a Master of Philosophy in Music from the Australian National University (ANU), is a Senior Lecturer in the Jazz & Improvisation Department at the University of Melbourne and the author of ‘Sight Reading: The Rhythm Book’ (Mel Bay Inc).
He is currently mixing his percussion based album ‘Drumming’ which features his latest single ‘Akhuya’ and working on ‘Viajes’ an ensemble album featuring guests recorded in Cuba, USA, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Australia.
