Bow Valley songwriter Amelie Patterson is a pop music workhorse with hooks to spare.
Her new single, the dazzling alt-pop ‘EVERYTHING, NOTHING.’ is about love and “and how it's uniquely your own experience, but also a ubiquitous force around the planet" and in this global pandemic, we all need a reason to celebrate love. Patterson explored ideas of how the microcosm reflects the macrocosm. Each of us are giving love in our unique way, but we are all doing so on a global scale. Patterson recorded this song with producer Graham Lessard (Reuben and The Dark, The Barr Brothers, Stars). Lessard and Patterson took the folk fixations of the song and surrounded it with organic instruments with an electronic sensibility. The result is a catchy and helplessly swaying beat. Moments of levity interrupt the cerebral track with vocal modulation and soaring chorus worthy of Imogen Heap.
Amelie has performed alongside Sarah Harmer, Matt Anderson, and Serena Ryder, and has performed at festivals including the Calgary Folk Festival, BlockHeater 2020, and Stampede City Sessions. Amelie is a songwriting tour de force drawing heavy comparisons to indie-folk contemporaries including Arcade Fire, Kathleen Edwards, Begonia, and Feist. Patterson served as the inaugural poet laureate of Banff, Alberta.
