The Swiss orchestra, launched in 1963 as the Aargau Symphony Orchestra, has long since risen to become a nationally established professional orchestra. Performing as the argovia philharmonic since the 2013/14 season, the orchestra not only plays a prominent role in the musical life ot the region with ist own concert series featuring a broad repertoire but also appears regulary at other venues such as the Zurich Tonhalle or the KKL in Lucerne. In addition, the argovia philharmonic is the house orchestra and the Artistic Director of the opera festival Oper Schloss Hallwyl, which takes place every three years. The argovia philharmonic performs regularly with such internationally renowned soloists as Vadim Repin, Olga Scheps, Stella Doufexis, Sol Gabetta, Raphael Oleg, Andreas Staier, and Bernd Glemser as well as outstanding Swiss artists including Oliver Schnyder, Patrick Demenga and Christian Poltéra. In addition, it frequently engages up-and-coming soloists such as Alexander Sitkovetsky, Jinsang Lee, Sofia Jaffé, Sergey Koudriakov, Christina Daletska and Valentin Johannes Gloor. British conductor Douglas Bostock has led the orchestra as Principal Conductor since 2001. In celebration oft he orchestra’s 50th anniversary, an internationally acclaimed CD featuring works by Aargau composers Hermann Suter and Werner Wehrli has been released. The argovia philharmonic has collaborated with the Coviello Classics label since 2013.
