Pianist and composer Brian Crain was born in Hollywood, California. His father, an award-winning educational filmmaker, and his mother, a prolific and beloved potter, encouraged him to explore music at a very young age.
Some of Brian’s earliest memories are of whistling his own compositions. When he was nine his parents purchased a baby grand piano to inspire his creativity, although Brian didn’t take well to practicing the piano or reading sheet music. He preferred spending his time playing baseball and whistling.
In 1996 Brian composed and performed his first album of original piano music, A Light in the Trees. Since then he has composed and recorded sixteen instrumental albums including his "Piano and..." series (Piano and Light, Piano And Cello Duet (With YuJeong Lee), and Piano and Violin Duet), all three of which are permanent fixtures on the Apple Music Classical charts.
Always an independent musician, Brian sold his first one-hundred thousand albums by himself at art shows in the United States. The advent of iTunes allowed Brian to reach an international audience, and he has since become one of the most successful composer/pianists in the world. His compositions have been streamed or downloaded more than a billion times.
Brian's most recent album, Impressions from Paris to Prague, was inspired by a recent trip through Europe and includes piano and accordion duets with an old world feel.
