Senator Jaiz is the electronic music project of Eban Crawford. Senator Jaiz started out as a punk band in the late 90's and started to record a demo before breaking up.
Eban eventually got into podcasting in 2004 and created The Indie Music Blast for Podshow/Mevio. The Senator Jaiz name was brought back as a co-host of the show which was voiced by Eban. Senator Jaiz also became a character in the short lived "RfL: The Animated Adventures" also for Mevio. After the shows came to an end Eban restarted his music career in 2013, this time as an electronic composer and again resurrected the name of Senator Jaiz.
The music of Senator Jaiz can be described as New Age, Ambient, IDM, Trip Hop, or Symphonic. Eban lists his inspirations as Brian Eno, Gary Numan, Aphex Twin, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, and Massive Attack.
Senator Jaiz's first album, Dimensional Chaos was released in 2014 and had a more dance oriented sound. With 2015's Blaise Artica the sound started to veer more to IDM and Trip Hop. 2016 brought the EP's "The iPad Sessions vol 1" and "Sparkless Ignition," along with the album "B-sides and Songs that Missed the Cut." 2017 has seen the release of seven singles with a new album coming.
Senator Jaiz is also involved in workshops such as "No Permission Needed: Create!" which he has brought to Moogfest in 2016 and 2017.
Along with Senator Jaiz, Eban also creates music and soundscapes and helps design audio exhibits for the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.
