At the outbreak of the pandemic, Sam found himself stranded on tour between his native Switzerland and his chosen home in Brooklyn, NY. His shows suddenly canceled and his return to the United States uncertain, Sam spent the lockdown holed up at an Airbnb in his hometown of Basel, Switzerland. There, he started writing new material with what little equipment he’d brought with him on the tour that never was. The resulting batch of songs forms the framework of Sam's debut album, due out in 2021.
According to Sam, "'Cry’ is a farewell letter to my former lives and loves in New York, all ended by the pandemic, and a reminder not to pity myself amid a global catastrophe.”
The LP’s first single follows on the heels of Sam Himself's acclaimed EP Slow Drugs, which earned him the Swiss National Broadcasting Service’s prestigious Best Talent Award. The five-track EP features Josh Werner (bass - Iggy Pop; Lee "Scratch" Perry; CocoRosie) and Parker Kindred (drums - Jeff Buckley; Elliott Smith, ANOHNI) under the direction of mixer and producer Daniel Schlett.
